UniverCity News, 1998-2001
VCU Today, the University’s first official administrative organ, began as a somewhat irregular monthly publication but moved to a bi-weekly newspaper format in the 1980s. The newspaper changed its name to VCU Voice in 1988 and ten years later it appeared under the title UniverCity News. As it neared the end of its run as a physical newspaper, the publication became simply VCU News. These four publications were essentially the same periodical published under different titles by the Office of University Relations. VCU News appeared online for the first time in 2002.

There was Chuck Knoblauch standing at first base holding an umpiring clinic for Ted Hendry during the 12th inning of game two of the ALCS. Chuck now admits, "I should have went and got the ball." When the Texas A&M English major failed to went, the runners did went, and were quickly gone, with Enrique Wilson circling the bases and scoring the go-ahead run.

Response Of Understory Species To Changes In Ponderosa Pine Stocking Levels In The Black Hills, Daniel W. Uresk, Kieth E. Severson
Response Of Understory Species To Changes In Ponderosa Pine Stocking Levels In The Black Hills, Daniel W. Uresk, Kieth E. Severson
Great Basin Naturalist
The objective of this study was to test the hypothesis that there are no differences in understory production, by species, due to stocking levels of Pinus ponderosa (ponderosa pine). Understory production was estimated, by species, on 3 replicates each of 8 growing stock levels, ranging from clearcuts to unthinned stands, in both sapling- and pole-sized pine stands (48 plots) over 3 nonconsecutive years. All stands were approximately 70 yr old when thinning treatments were applied. Production of many herbaceous species, especially Agropyron spp. (wheatgrasses) and Carex spp. (sedges), declined as growing stock levels (measured in terms of basal area) of …

Algal Composition Of Microbiotic Crusts From The Central Desert Of Baja California, Mexico, Valerie R. Flechtner, Jeffrey R. Johansen, William H. Clark
Great Basin Naturalist
A total of 66 algal species representing 32 genera were recovered from soils of 10 sites in the Cataviña region of the Central Desert of Baja California, Mexico. The most common species encountered were the cyanophytes Nostoc commune and Schizothrix calcicola, the chlorophyte Myrmecia astigmatica, and the diatoms Hantzschia amphioxys, Hantzschia amphyoxys f. capitata, Luticola cohnii, Luticola mutica, and Pinnularia borealis var. scalaris. Nine species not found in any previous studies of North American desert soils were present in our study sites, including 3 taxa new to science: Cylindrocystis brebissonii var. deserti, var. nov.; Elakatothrix …
Half-Cycle Pulse Assisted Electron-Ion Recombination, Thomas J. Bensky, M. B. Campbell, Robert R. Jones
Half-Cycle Pulse Assisted Electron-Ion Recombination, Thomas J. Bensky, M. B. Campbell, Robert R. Jones
Physics
Unipolar “half-cycle” electric field pulses (HCPs) have been used to recombine free electrons and calcium ions. The field assisted process is very similar to controlled three-body recombination in plasmas. We report on experiments that utilize HCP assisted recombination to probe the probability distribution of continuum electron wave packets and produce bound wave packets that are highly localized in three spatial dimensions.
