Farm Women's Roles And Their Experience Of Role Strain And Role Enhancement, Diane Dunn

Theses and Graduate Projects

Studies exploring farm women roles were limited to data of the 1980s utilizing the scarcity approach to role theory. This study expands on research by exploring farm women's roles today utilizing both the scarcity and expansion approaches. Random sampling of 81 farm women ages 26-78 were drawn from the Pipestone County Farm Service's mail-listing. Data was analyzed using JMP Statistical Data Analysis. The study revealed that farm women continued to fulfill roles involved with family, farming, and off-farm employment at rates similar/greater (employment) to those in the '80s. Findings also suggested that farm women experience both strains and enhancements from …

Theses and Graduate Projects

This case study focuses on the leadership theory used by the Vice President (VP) of a 500 employee organization within a large multinational corporation. The problem addressed is whether this VP is a principle-centered leader. This is a leadership theory championed by Stephen R. Covey. The Covey Leadership Center works with thousands of organizations throughout the world to educate them on principle-centered leadership. Although the available literature is limited to Covey, the similarities to ethical leadership theory are addressed in the literature review. Are We Asking The Right Questions? An Evaluation Of Client Reportability To Medical Providers Concerning Concurrent Use Of Alternative Therapies, Nektarios Butterfield

Master's Projects

The use of alternative therapies in the United States is becoming more and more prevalent. One out of three Americans use alternative therapies and the failure to report the use of alternative therapies could affect the client's health. The purpose of this study was to explore the extent to which clients use and report their use of alternative therapies to their medical care provider, as well as identifying barriers to reporting. A sample (N= 50) was selected randomly from a phone book. Of those 34 (68%) who used alternative therapies, 64% (n=32) reported use of alternative therapies while receiving medical …

The literature review revealed different types of boundaries and boundary positions. The Family Adaptability and Cohesion Scale was the instrument utilized for assessing the adaptability. (EACES II) The questions this study answers include how the adolescents' boundary position, in terms of cohesion, and boundary adaptability effects delinquency and school achievement? Also, how do religious activities of the adolescents effect delinquency and school achievement? Self-survey questionnaires and FACES II inventories were administered at two separate high schools. The Relationship Between Recreational Activity And Dementia Behavior: An Exploratory Study, Nicole Schueller May 1998

The Relationship Between Recreational Activity And Dementia Behavior: An Exploratory Study, Nicole Schueller

Theses and Graduate Projects

This study explores the effects recreational activity has on specific dementia behaviors such as wandering, pacing, agitation, calling out and repetitive verbal comments of 15 nursing home residents with dementia. Previous research indicated that too often a resident exhibiting a dementia behavior warranting the need for a restraint is treated with a physical or chemical restraint without careful consideration of the meaning of the behavior. The ethical dilemma of using restraints suggests the need to find alternatives to restraint usage. The study examines how activities affect agitation levels of the residents.

This research consisted of an observational study of 15 …

Developing A Racial Consciousness In The White Leader, Elizabeth A. Campbell May 1998

Developing A Racial Consciousness In The White Leader, Elizabeth A. Campbell

Theses and Graduate Projects

This thesis addresses how racism affects the leadership practice of the white leader in the United States. The researcher did a self-analysis of her own spiritual and psychological development, as a white leader, from birth to age 35. The researcher used her own narrative as the primary source of data. Secondary resources were used to interpret this data. The researcher argues that the United States is a nation in which social life is still largely governed by the belief in the intellectual, cultural and moral superiority of whites, or the doctrine of white supremacy.

The researcher argues further that the …

Oblivion's Edge, Jeremy Strandberg May 1998

Oblivion's Edge, Jeremy Strandberg

Lawrence University Honors Projects

Oblivion's Edge is a role-playing game. It is a manuscript which provides a fictional setting and the methods for group storytelling within that setting. This is not a typical academic project. It is not a board game, a card game, or a computer game. It is a creative work, more like a novel or collection of short stories than a traditional paper or thesis.
