Samuel Florman And Literature Of Technology, Paul F. Sharke May 1998

Samuel Florman And Literature Of Technology, Paul F. Sharke

Theses

In 1996, engineer and author Samuel Florman asked why engineering and technology had been represented only lightly in literature. From a mere handful of books dealing with this topic, he named The Control of Nature (1989), by John McPhee, Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance (1974), by Robert Pirsig, and The Soul of a New Machine (1981), by Tracy Kidder, as being among the best examples of a literary expression of engineering. These three works are examined here in light of Florman's own four books on the subject of engineering, The Existential Pleasures of Engineering (1976), Blaming Technology …

Mentor Relationships In Psychology Graduate Training: Gender Differences And Ethical Concerns, Sherry L. Harden

Doctor of Psychology (PsyD)

The business literature regarding mentor relationships has quantitatively shown them to be beneficial for both mentor and protege. Most of the mentoring literature in the field of psychology has been theoretical, with a few sporadic attempts to quantify the concept. This study is the first comprehensive survey of mentoring experiences among students from psychology graduate programs across the nation. National survey data was collected and analyzed using descriptive and correlational statistics. Essential components of the mentor-protege relationship were explored, and respondents were asked to evaluate their experiences as proteges. Theory Of Nothing, Adam Wieslaw Rupniewski May 1998

Theory Of Nothing, Adam Wieslaw Rupniewski

Dissertations and Theses

My work was presented in the form of an installation. Using three and two-dimensional objects, as well as sound and light, I created a site specific type of installation. Materials involved in this project were hydrostone, plaster, steel and copper. The sound I recorded on my steel sculptures in an acoustic space and then mixed to create sound compositions to amplify the feeling for the space. This installation reflects my pursuits in painting and sculpture, as well as my interest in music and light effects. Its philosophical and spiritual content were expressed through visual language, symbolic use of elements and …

Long Term Implications On Male Children Who Witness Interparental Violence, Michelle M. Erlandson

Theses and Graduate Projects

The immediate effects of family violence on child witnesses are well documented. Even with this information children often do not receive any services particularly if they have not been physically harmed. What is less evident are the long term effects of, family violence on child witnesses. This study gathered data via a questionnaire from 25 males who were attending a domestic violence education program for assaulting their female partner. The questionnaire addressed childhood experiences such as the witnessing of parental violence, conflict resolution methods observed in childhood and discipline methods used in the home. Additionally, the questionnaire asked about current …
