On The Developement Of An Optical Character Recognition(Ocr) System For Printed Bangla Script., Umapada Pal Dr.

Doctoral Theses

This thesis concerns OCR development of machine printed text in an Indian lan- guage, Bangla (Bengali) which is the fourthmost popular language in the world and the secondmost popular language in India.1.1 Optical Character Recognition Optical Character Recognition (OCR) is a process of automatic computer recog- nition of characters in optically scanned and digitized pages of text. OCR is ene of the most fascinating and challenging areas of pattern recognition with various practical applications. It can contribute tremendously to the advancement of an automation process and can improve the interface between man and machine in many applications, including office automation …

A Negative Regulator Mediates Quorum-Sensing Control Of Exopolysaccharide Production In Pantoea Stewartii Subsp. Stewartii., S B Von Bodman, D R Majerczak, D L Coplin

Plant Science Articles

Classical quorum-sensing (autoinduction) regulation, as exemplified by the lux system of Vibrio fischeri, requires N-acyl homoserine lactone (AHL) signals to stimulate cognate transcriptional activators for the cell density-dependent expression of specific target gene systems. For Pantoea stewartii subsp. stewartii, a bacterial pathogen of sweet corn and maize, the extracellular polysaccharide (EPS) stewartan is a major virulence factor, and its production is controlled by quorum sensing in a population density-dependent manner. Two genes, esaI and esaR, encode essential regulatory proteins for quorum sensing. EsaI is the AHL signal synthase, and EsaR is the cognate gene regulator. esaI, DeltaesaR, and DeltaesaI-esaR mutations …

Polymerized Chiral Micelles For Chiral Separations, Isiah M. Warner, Jian Wang Jun 1998

Polymerized Chiral Micelles For Chiral Separations, Isiah M. Warner, Jian Wang

College of Science Patents

Chiral separations can be enhanced through the use of polymerized chiral micelles. Because polymerized micelles eliminate much of the complex dynamic behavior associated with conventional micelles, polymerized chiral micelles have stronger chiral recognition properties than do otherwise-identical, "conventional" or non-polymerized chiral micelles. Recovery of chiral ligands from polymerized chiral micelles is often easier, as the chiral ligands may typically be recovered by simple extraction with an appropriate organic solvent. By contrast, recovering the solute from a conventional, non-polymerized micellar medium by extraction with an organic solvent frequently results in the formation of troublesome emulsion systems. Polymerized chiral micelle systems are …

Universities And Their Communities: What Fosters Positive Town-Gown Relations?, Nicole M. Spagnolia Jun 1998

Universities And Their Communities: What Fosters Positive Town-Gown Relations?, Nicole M. Spagnolia

Theses and Dissertations

The purpose of this thesis was to decipher what solutions and approaches have worked in solving conflicts between colleges and their communities and make the information available to other schools.

A review of research related to this study was conducted in conjunction with in-depth interviews with college relations personnel from various institutions. The information gathered was then used to conduct primary research in the form of a mail survey.

The mail survey was sent to 400 college relations personnel from across the country. The survey was used to discover what conflicts colleges are experiencing with their communities and how they …
