A Comparison Of Relation-Breaking Behaviors, Relation-Maintaining Behaviors, And Maternal Sensitivity In Population Of Handicapped And Non-Handicapped Infants, Karol Basel Aug 1998

A Comparison Of Relation-Breaking Behaviors, Relation-Maintaining Behaviors, And Maternal Sensitivity In Population Of Handicapped And Non-Handicapped Infants, Karol Basel

Student Work

The infant enters the world with certain abilities that allow him or her to interact with the environment. Early on infants demonstrate a preference in viewing the human face (Fantz, 1968) and selectively responding to the sounds of human speech (Eimas, Sigueland, Jusczyk, & Vigorito, 1971). The early development of perceptual sensitivities enable the infant to become a partner in the social environment. It has been suggested that the ability to engage in social interactions provides the infant with the structure to organize cognitive and affective experiences (Stern, Beebe, Jaffe, & Bennett, 1977). Through the interaction process the infant first …

New Teacher Induction Programs In Tennessee: Formal, Informal, And Influential Practices, Peggy A. Goodson-Rochelle

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

The researcher examined beginning teacher induction programs in large and small districts in Tennessee for the 1997-1998 school year. Types of induction, formal and informal, were examined. The study looked at the teacher attitudes of job satisfaction, job adjustment, and socialization into the profession of teaching. The research design included five questions with two hypotheses used for testing differences between teacher attitudes in large and small systems. Beginning first-year teachers were surveyed and asked to rate their induction program as to best practices. Teachers rated the occurrence of activities in seven areas and how supportive activities were in their roles …

Meaning In Family Mealtime, Ardyth Gunnell Cannon Aug 1998

Meaning In Family Mealtime, Ardyth Gunnell Cannon

Theses and Dissertations

This project asks families what mealtime together means to them. The topic of family mealtime appears comparatively infrequently in academic literature, and any meaning that families associate with mealtime has seldom been studied directly. This particular research investigates meanings of the understudied mealtime event by interviewing three or four generations of family members from five different families. Attention is paid to emerging standards of rigor for qualitative research, namely applicability through the selection of families who have a history of practicing a family mealtime tradition, truth value in faithfully representing the interviewees perceptions, and auditability by including detail of the …

Perceived Health Competency And Health Value, Acculturation And Obesity In A Mexican American Population, Roberto Eliud Maldonado Aug 1998

Perceived Health Competency And Health Value, Acculturation And Obesity In A Mexican American Population, Roberto Eliud Maldonado

Theses and Dissertations - UTB/UTPA

Mexican Americans have a higher incidence of obesity than non-Hispanic whites, yet this population seems to be less concerned with maintaining an ideal body weight than non-Hispanic whites. This puts the Mexican Americans population at higher risk for illnesses associated with increased body fat and obesity. One important factor found to influence health maintenance behavior is perceived self-efficacy, or the degree to which the individual feels capable of effectively managing his or her behavioral outcome. This study examines the moderating effect of health competency and health value on body weight in individuals undergoing acculturation.

Although no significant correlations were found …

A Shared Memory Multiprocessor System Architecture Utilizing A Uniform, Frank Casilio Aug 1998

A Shared Memory Multiprocessor System Architecture Utilizing A Uniform, Frank Casilio

Theses

Due to VLSI lithography problems and the limitation of additional architectural enhancements uniprocessor systems are nearing the end of their life cycle. Therefore, it is believed that Symmetric Multiprocessing (SMP) systems will be the next mainstream computer. These systems allow multiple processors, accessing the same memory image, to cooperate on a number of computational tasks as a single entity. While multiprocessor systems can offer a substantial performance increase compared to uniprocessor systems, major design considerations must be addressed to achieve desired system efficiency levels. Managing cache coherence is a significant problem in multiprocessor systems. Current implementations cope with this problem …

Spatial Analysis Of Agricultural Cucurbita Sp. Varieties In The Eastern Broadleaf Province, Kathleen M. Baker Aug 1998

Spatial Analysis Of Agricultural Cucurbita Sp. Varieties In The Eastern Broadleaf Province, Kathleen M. Baker

Masters Theses

The purpose of this research was to explain and quantify twentieth century agricultural distributions of the genus Cucurbita in the United States to determine the effect of temporal changes in economic utilization and a variety of historical, environmental and social circumstances on those distributions. Geographic information system (GIS) methods were combined with statistical software techniques to analyze the spatial and temporal trends of pumpkin and squash growth in one region (the Eastern Broadleaf Province, as defined by Bailey) of the United States from 1982-1992.

Counties with fewer frost free days, later spring frosts, more accumulated growing degree units throughout the …

Perceptions Of Corporate Crime: Assessing The Seriousness, Dale J. Ardovini-Brooker Aug 1998

Perceptions Of Corporate Crime: Assessing The Seriousness, Dale J. Ardovini-Brooker

Masters Theses

Many studies have been done concerning the seriousness of traditional street crime. There is a need in the field of criminology to expand our knowledge about how serious corporate crimes are. A key feature of seriousness is how researchers measure it. Using a survey, I analyzed people's perceptions of corporate crime. I had the respondents indicate the seriousness of the crime and harm by using a Likert Scale as well as identifying the appropriate sanction/sentence for the company convicted of the crime. This proved useful in attempting to identify how seriousness is measured by the sanctions/sentences imposed by the respondents. …

Delectatio Et Utilitas In Hrotsvit Of Gandersheim's Resuscitatio Drusianae Et Calimachi, Mary Maxine Browne Aug 1998

Delectatio Et Utilitas In Hrotsvit Of Gandersheim's Resuscitatio Drusianae Et Calimachi, Mary Maxine Browne

Masters Theses

Hrotsvit of Gandersheim (935-1002 A.D.) wrote her play, Resuscitatio Drusianae et Calimachi, as the other five plays which Hrotsvit composed, as an adaptation of a hagiography from the apocryphal Acta Johannis. Written in the spirit of the tenth-century didactic esthetic delectatio et utilitas, Hrotsvit adapted the narrative of the legend to the Terentian comedic form, that she might instruct her monastic audience according to the delectatio et utilitas esthetic.

This discussion focuses on the sources and backgrounds of Hrotsvit's play, followed by Hrotsvit' s adaptive treatment of the characters in Resuscitatio Drusianae et Calimachi with a …

Consumer Response To Ipm-Grown Produce, Ramu Govindasamy, John Italia, Daymon Thatch, Adesoji Adelaja Aug 1998

Consumer Response To Ipm-Grown Produce, Ramu Govindasamy, John Italia, Daymon Thatch, Adesoji Adelaja

Journal of Extension

A survey instrument was used by faculty members of Rutgers Cooperative Extension to determine likely consumer response to Integrated Pest Management (IPM) Produce. The objectives of the study were to document consumer willingness-to-purchase and willingness-to-pay for IPM grown-produce as well as existing knowledge of IPM. While awareness of IPM was low, over 71 percent of participants indicated that they would purchase IPM labeled produce. Only 12 percent indicated that they would be unwilling to pay a premium to obtain IPM-grown produce. Willingness-to-purchase IPM produce was found to increase with income and decrease with age. Females and higher earning households were …

Underlying Inflation Sebagai Indikator Harga Yang Relevan Dengan Kebijakan Moneter Sebuah Tinjauan Untuk Indonesia, Wijoyo Santoso, Reza Anglingkusumo

Bulletin of Monetary Economics and Banking

Mencari Paradigma Baru Manajemen Moneter Dalam Sistem Nilai Tukar Fleksibel: Suaru Pemikiran Untuk Penerapannya Di Indonesia, Hartadi A. Sarwono, Perry Warjiyo

Bulletin of Monetary Economics and Banking
