Joseph Schumpeter, the Austrian born economist and social historian who spent a major part of his academic career at Harvard, was a cogent observer of how societies develop. His Capitalism, Socialism, and Democracy is still considered a classic. Schumpeter spoke of "perennial gales of creative destruction" (often technological) that shock societies and force change. The advent of electricity and the coming of the automobile illustrate technologies that created new power arrangements and destroyed or modified existing institutions. Higher education is now in the midst of a Schumpeterian "gale of creative destruction"--a revolution, many say. After almost 150 years of reliance …

Jesus In Film: Hollywood Perspectives On The Jewishness Of Jesus, Adele Reinhartz
Jesus In Film: Hollywood Perspectives On The Jewishness Of Jesus, Adele Reinhartz
Journal of Religion & Film
The purpose of this article is to survey a number of Jesus movies with respect to the portrayal of Jesus' Jewishness. As a New Testament scholar, I am curious to see how these celluloid representations of Jesus compare to academic depictions. For this reason, I begin by presenting briefly three trends in current historical Jesus research that construct Jesus' Jewishness in different ways. As a Jewish New Testament scholar, however, my interest in this question is fuelled by a conviction that the cinematic representations of Jesus both reflect and also affect cultural perceptions of both Jesus and Judaism. My survey …

An Preparation Of Indoor Games In Ghana, Jeremy Fishcher
An Preparation Of Indoor Games In Ghana, Jeremy Fishcher
African Diaspora ISPs
For many Ghanaians, the playing of games is a daily activity. By playing games often and usually at a high level of skill, Ghanaians participate in a process that is of great significance to their own culture. This paper is an exploration of the games culture, as it exists in Ghana. The category of game addressed in the investigation is indoor games. These games serve as a mode of stimulation, entertainment, and interaction for a large portion of Ghanaians, especially men. You, the reader, are about to enter a world of excitement, hierarchy, communalism, sexism, and intelligence.

Where The Chilly Winds Don't Blow: African Americans Return To Ghana, Zelle Bonney
African Diaspora ISPs
The major purpose of my Independent Study Project is to create an audio visual medium to chronicle the current perspectives of African Americans living in Ghana. This paper serves as a supplement to the video documentary and is organised as a discussion between those African Americans interviewed, as well as accounts from the tour guides at Cape Coast and Elmina and Ghanaians. The discussion is also supported by books written on the topic. The paper focuses on three main issues: the meaning of who participated in the slave trade, who our anger may be directed towards and where our energy …
