Complete Single-Ionization Momentum Spectra For Strong Perturbation Collisions, Ronald E. Olson, C. J. Wood, H. Schmidt-Böcking, R. Moshammer, J. Ullrich Jan 1998

Complete Single-Ionization Momentum Spectra For Strong Perturbation Collisions, Ronald E. Olson, C. J. Wood, H. Schmidt-Böcking, R. Moshammer, J. Ullrich

Physics Faculty Research & Creative Works

The combination of recoil ion and ionized electron momentum spectroscopy provides an unparalleled method to investigate the details of ion-atom collision dynamics in kinematically complete experiments. To predict single ionization scattering behavior at the level now realized by experiment, the classical trajectory three-body Monte Carlo method has been used to obtain complete momenta information for the ionized electron, recoil ion, and projectile in the collision plane defined by the incident projectile and outgoing recoil ion. Strongly coupled systems were considered where the charge state of the projectile divided by the speed of the collision [Formula Presented] is greater than unity. …

Stories From The Other Side Of The Screen: Identifying Social Construction Within Educational Software, Brenda Matthis Jan 1998

Stories From The Other Side Of The Screen: Identifying Social Construction Within Educational Software, Brenda Matthis

Journal of Pedagogy, Pluralism, and Practice

Designers of software programs provide their narratives, perspectives, and points of view through the software programs they develop, consciously and explicitly or not. As the providers of these narratives, the software designers are considered the authors of this medium. These authors' narratives contribute to the social construction of the users of the software as they gain cognitive instruction and entertainment. This is especially important to consider when it comes to educational software used by children in the classroom and in the home. The traditional process for the examination of narrative and content in a medium is a review. Narratives in …

Photoinduced Coupling Of Acetylenes And Quinone In The Solid State As Preorganized Donor−Acceptor Pairs, E. Bosch, S. M. Hubig, Sergey V. Lindeman, Jay K. Kochi Jan 1998

Photoinduced Coupling Of Acetylenes And Quinone In The Solid State As Preorganized Donor−Acceptor Pairs, E. Bosch, S. M. Hubig, Sergey V. Lindeman, Jay K. Kochi

Chemistry Faculty Research and Publications

Crystalline electron donor−acceptor (EDA) complexes of various diarylacetylenes (DA) and dichlorobenzoquinone (DB) are isolated and structurally characterized by X-ray crystallography. Deliberate excitation of either the DB acceptor at λDB = 355 nm or the 1:2 [DA, 2DB] complex at λCT = 532 nm in the solid state leads to [2 + 2] cycloaddition and identical (isomeric) mixtures of the quinone methide products. Time-resolved (ps) diffuse reflectance spectroscopy identifies the ion-radical pair [DA•+, DB•-] as the reactive intermediate derived by photoinduced electron transfer in both photochemical …

Central Park East Secondary School (Cpess) At A Glance, David Smith Jan 1998

Central Park East Secondary School (Cpess) At A Glance, David Smith

School K-12

Ramon, a senior at Central Park East Secondary School (CPESS), pushes his way through the doors of the school into the crisp December morning. Covering the three blocks to Mr. Sinai Hospital in minutes, Ramon greets the hospital security guard, heads through the doors marked "employees only," and makes his way to a small auditorium where the weekly CPESS/Mt. Sinai Health Careers Internship Seminar takes place.

Strictly Level-Decreasing Logic Programs, Pascal Hitzler, Anthony K. Seda Jan 1998

Strictly Level-Decreasing Logic Programs, Pascal Hitzler, Anthony K. Seda

Computer Science and Engineering Faculty Publications

We study strictly level-decreasing logic programs (sld-programs) as defined earlier by the present authors. It will be seen that sld-programs, unlike most other classes of logic programs, have both a highly intuitive declarative semantics, given as a unique supported model, and are computationally adequate in the sense that every partial recursive function can be represented by some sld-program P. Allowing for a safe use of cuts, an interpreter based on SLDNF-resolution, as implemented for example in standard Prolog systems, is shown to be sound and complete with respect to this class of programs. Furthermore, we study connections between topological …

Interestingness Of Discovered Association Rules In Terms Of Neighborhood-Based Unexpectedness, Guozhu Dong, Jinyan Li Jan 1998

Interestingness Of Discovered Association Rules In Terms Of Neighborhood-Based Unexpectedness, Guozhu Dong, Jinyan Li

Kno.e.sis Publications

One of the central problems in knowledge discovery is the development of good measures of interestingness of discovered patterns. With such measures, a user needs to manually examine only the more interesting rules, instead of each of a large number of mined rules. Previous proposals of such measures include rule templates, minimal rule cover, actionability, and unexpectedness in the statistical sense or against user beliefs.

In this paper we will introduce neighborhood-based interestingness by considering unexpectedness in terms of neighborhood-based parameters. We first present some novel notions of distance between rules and of neighborhood of rules. The neighborhood-based interestingness of …

Don't Go And Do Something Rash About Cram Down Interest Rates, David G. Epstein Jan 1998

Don't Go And Do Something Rash About Cram Down Interest Rates, David G. Epstein

Law Faculty Publications

This Article considers the second and different question of how to value the proposed payments under the plan. While the question of how to value the proposed payments under the plan is different from the question of how to value the creditor's security interest in property, there is a connection between the answers to the questions. The value of the payments must at least equal the value of the security interest.

Test 1747: John Deere 8400t Diesel 16-Speed, Nebraska Tractor Test Lab

Nebraska Tractor Tests

EXPLANATION OF THE TEST PROCEDURE

General

Tractors are tested at the University of Nebraska according to the Agricultural Tractor Test Code approved by the American Society of Agricultural Engineers and the Society of Automotive Engineers or official Nebraska test procedure.

The manufacturer selects the tractor to be tested and certifies that it is a stock model. Each tractor is equipped with the common power consuming accessories such as power steering, power lift pump, generator, etc., if available. Power consuming accessories may be disconnected only when the means for disconnecting can be reached from the operating station. An official representative of …

Flattening The Claims Of The Flat Taxers, Neil Brooks Jan 1998

Flattening The Claims Of The Flat Taxers, Neil Brooks

Articles & Book Chapters

The idea that income tax rate brackets should be flattened has gained some support among neoclassical economists, right-wing think-tanks and Canadian politicians. Those propounding the idea argue that flattening the rate structure will simplify the tax system and reduce tax avoidance and evasion. They also argue that it would usher in an era of increased economic prosperity by encouraging talented Canadians to work harder, save and invest more, and remain in Canada. In defending progressive taxation, this article takes issue with each of these claims. It concludes that the fundamental differences between those who support flat taxes and those who …
