Internship In Supervision And Curriculum Development In The Millville Public Schools, Millville, New Jersey, 1996-1997, Debra G. Wenrick

Theses and Dissertations

The internship in Supervision and Curriculum Development provided the intern the opportunity to develop and strengthen leadership skills required for educational administrators for the 21st century.

The internship focused on the following projects: 1) the development of a balanced curriculum for the district's bilingual summer enrichment program, 2) the facilitation of a collegial sharing of ideas learned at out-of-district workshops, 3) the piloting of a teacher-centered revision of the district's evaluation system, 4) a teacher-led workshop to encourage the use of CD-ROM technology as an instructional tool and 5) the implementation of cross-age tutoring.

The following recommendations were made: 1) …

The Nature Of The Continuum Limit In The 2d Rp^2 Gauge Model, Simon Catterall, M. Hasenbusch, R. R. Horgan, R. Renken

Physics - All Scholarship

The RP(2) gauge model is studied in 2D. We use Monte-Carlo renormalization techniques for blocking the mean spin-spin interaction, , and the mean gauge field plaquette. The presence of the O(3) renormalized trajectory is verified and is consistent with the known three-loop beta-function. The first-order `vorticity' transition observed by Solomon et al. is confirmed, and the location of the terminating critical point is established. New scaling flows in (,) are observed associated with a large exponent kappa in the range 4~5. The scaling flows give rise to a strong cross-over effect between regions of high and low vorticity …

Spiritual Immigration, Carmen Hernandez Jan 1998

Spiritual Immigration, Carmen Hernandez

Theses

The thesis presents my personal and external interpretations of people who have been directly or indirectly involved with the immigration process. First, each migration consists of unique elements based on the culture and circumstances of the immigrant. Personal experiences are important to the development of this theme. Individual perceptions of the sea as a migratory vehicle are used to interpret these unique elements. Second, the theme is developed from a humanistic viewpoint. Finally, theories such as the search for Utopia and historical events like the Cuban mass migration to the US are utilized to help understand the immigration process. These …

On Lipschitzian, And Connected Matrices In: Linear Complementarity Problem., Sriparna Bandyopadhyay Dr. Jan 1998

On Lipschitzian, And Connected Matrices In: Linear Complementarity Problem., Sriparna Bandyopadhyay Dr.

Doctoral Theses

This dissertation deals with a number of questions related to the linear complementarity problem (LCP). Given A ∈ Rn*n and q ∈ Rnthe LCP is to find a vector z ∈ R" such that Az+q ≥0,≥ and 2'(Az + 9) = 0. There is a vast literature on LCP developed during the last four decades. LCP plays a crucial role in the study of Mathematical Progranming from the point of view of algorithms as well as applications. The questions on existence and multiplicity of solutions in LCP has led researchers to introduce and study a variety of matrix classes. Most …

A Novel Regulatory Mechanism Of Glycolysis Via Glycolytic Enzyme-Tubulin Interactions: Modulation By Protein-Tyrosine Kinase Phosphorylation Of Tubulin., K. Warren Volker Jan 1998

A Novel Regulatory Mechanism Of Glycolysis Via Glycolytic Enzyme-Tubulin Interactions: Modulation By Protein-Tyrosine Kinase Phosphorylation Of Tubulin., K. Warren Volker

Theses and Dissertations

Glycolytic enzymes have been shown to bind to the cytoskeletal protein, tubulin. These protein-protein interactions have been hypothesized to provide compartmentation of glycolysis in the cytoplasm of eukaryotic cells via the cytoskeleton, a component of the microtrabecular lattice.Previously, in my thesis work, it was determined that four enzymes of glycolysis (glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase, aldolase, pyruvate kinase, and lactate dehydrogenase-muscle type) had high affinity for the $\alpha$-subunit C-terminal region of tubulin. When this region was removed proteolytically, binding was diminished. The localization of the glycolytic enzyme domain on tubulin, phosphorylation of this domain, and in vivo effects of the domain are investigated …

Novel Doubly Excited States Produced In Negative Ion Photodetachment, Anthony F. Starace Jan 1998

Novel Doubly Excited States Produced In Negative Ion Photodetachment, Anthony F. Starace

Anthony F. Starace Publications

Eigenchannel R-matrix calculations for photodetachment partial cross sections of H–, Li–, Na–, and Aℓ– provide results that are dominated by high doubly-excited states and that are in excellent agreement with available measurements. Propensity rules for doubly-excited states developed for H– apply also for heavier targets. However, states not observed in H– may be observed in the heavier target spectra owing to the non-Coulomb core. Finally the signature of particular doubly excited states changes drastically from one partial cross section to another.

We report on the results of R-band observations of the error box of the g-ray burst of 1997 August 28 made between 4 hr and 8 days after this burst occurred. No counterpart was found varying by more than 0.2 mag down to R 5 23.8. We discuss the consequences of this nondetection for relativistic blast wave models of g-ray bursts and the possible effect of redshift on the relation between optical absorption and the low-energy cutoff in the X-ray afterglow spectrum.
