The Anchor: 1998

The Anchor began in 1887 and was first issued weekly in 1914. Covering national and campus news alike, Hope College’s student-run newspaper has grown over the years to encompass over two-dozen editors, reporters, and staff. For much of The Anchor's history, the latest issue was distributed across campus each Wednesday throughout the academic school year (with few exceptions). In recent years The Anchor moved to monthly print issues and a more frequently updated website. The Anchor is now published in print twice per academic semester. Occasionally, the volume and/or issue numbering is irregular.

On the Green is an internal publication of Gallaudet College, which later became Gallaudet University. Shepard N. “Shep” Cortell was born to Edward and Marion Cortell on July 5, 1925 in Lewiston, Maine. He was a Bates College graduate in the class of 1950. He was on the staff for Congressman Charles P. Nelson from 1948 to 1956. Shep helped Margaret Chase Smith in her run for the State Senate. He was critical of Muskie on the water pollution issue of the Androscoggin River and other environmental issues. He was an active Republican in the 1940s and 1950s.

The Frat was the official member publication of the National Fraternal Society of the Deaf (NFSD). First established in 1902, the publication ran for just over a century, until its closure in 2006.---NFSD was an insurance business established in 1901. Its purposes were to provide insurance to mainly Deaf members, to serve as an advocate for the Deaf, and to provide community service and recreational opportunities through divisional activities. The existing insurance coverage was transferred to the Catholic Order of Foresters in 2005. The NFSD disbanded in 2007.---The Frat's main purpose was to keep members apprised of the activities of …
