Biology And Ecology Of The Anopheles Quadrimaculatus Sibling Species Complex In Louisiana., Cynthia Roxanne Rutledge Jan 1998

Biology And Ecology Of The Anopheles Quadrimaculatus Sibling Species Complex In Louisiana., Cynthia Roxanne Rutledge

LSU Historical Dissertations and Theses

A polymerase chain reaction method for identifying individuals in the Anopheles quadrimaculatus Say sibling species complex was validated for wild mosquitoes from Louisiana and Mississippi. This method distinguished An. quadrimaculatus species A, B, C, and D by detecting species-specific differences in the 2nd internal transcribed spacer of ribosomal DNA and was 100% specific and 95% sensitive. A polymerase chain reaction assay that detects differences in the second internal transcribed spacer of ribosomal DNA was tested for its usefulness in identifying all immature stages of two representatives in the An. quadrimaculatus sibling species complex. The technique was successful in amplifying DNA …

The License Is The Product: Comments On The Promise Of Article 2b For Software And Information Licensing, Robert W. Gomulkiewicz Jan 1998

The License Is The Product: Comments On The Promise Of Article 2b For Software And Information Licensing, Robert W. Gomulkiewicz

Articles

Article 2B promises to draw together contract principles for software and information licensing that, at present, are spread among various bodies of law.

This Article argues that Article 2B must affirm industry standard licensing practices in order to prove beneficial. For example, Article 2B's affirmation of industry standard mass market licensing is important for both publishers and end users. Article 2B must also provide the flexibility to accommodate new distribution and licensing models that will arise as electronic commerce matures. Any other approach would fundamentally disrupt the software and information industries.

Moreover, this Article urges the drafters of Article 2B …

Federalism In The Era Of International Standards: Federal And State Government Regulation Of Merchant Vessels In The United States (Part I), Craig H. Allen Jan 1998

Federalism In The Era Of International Standards: Federal And State Government Regulation Of Merchant Vessels In The United States (Part I), Craig H. Allen

Articles

In examining federalism issues relevant to merchant vessels, this article will distinguish between those laws and regulations governing liability for harm and those which regulate safety. Federalism questions arise most frequently in the former, private, maritime law domain, when courts are called upon to determine judicial jurisdiction and the extent to which state law may be applied to adjudicate liability and damages in cases falling within the admiralty and maritime jurisdiction. Less frequently, the federalism debate focuses on public maritime law, when states seek to regulate commercial vessel safety or vessel-source pollution.

This article will begin with an examination of …

Open Systems, Free Markets, And Regulation Of Internet Commerce, Jane Kaufman Winn Jan 1998

Open Systems, Free Markets, And Regulation Of Internet Commerce, Jane Kaufman Winn

Articles

Can commercial transactions conducted over the Internet be regulated by existing commercial law doctrines? Many promoters of Internet commerce argue that business done over open computer networks such as the Internet will require a new regulatory framework In fact, many issues raised by Internet commerce have already been considered at length in the context of electronic commerce conducted over closed computer networks, such as those used in financial markets.

One of the most hotly debated issues regarding the regulation of Internet commerce is the question of what would be the online equivalent of a signature. Some have argued that, because …

The Ultra Structure Of Abnormal Objects In The Semen Of Two Bulls, Hasan Hakan Bozkurt Jan 1998

The Ultra Structure Of Abnormal Objects In The Semen Of Two Bulls, Hasan Hakan Bozkurt

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

In the semen of the two bulls, abnormal structures, which were not identified with phase-contrast and dark-field microscopy, were observed. These samples were fixed, embedded in the plastic blocks and sectioned for examining with T.E.M. It was understood that the objects in the first sample were abnormal spermatozoa which have both head and tail anomalies. The objects in the second sample were not abnormal spermatozoa. They were leukocytes which infiltrated into the semen.

Effects On Enzyme Values And Histopathologic Findings With Vitamin E And/Orselenium On Monensin Toxicosis In Broiler Chickens, Ender Yarsan

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

Monensin is an ionophore antibiotic, a monovalent cationic substance, used in veterinary practice principally as a coccidiostat in poultry and as a growth promoter in cattle. This study was designed to evaluate the pretreatment of selenium and/or vitamin E and vitamin E + selenium in broilers given normal and high doses of monensin. For this purpose, 172 broiler chicks (Ross PM-3) were used in the study. These were splitted into two groups up the 15 th day. In the 15 st group, 15 of these chicks were maintained and fed without monensin, selenium and vitamin E. Other chicks were fed …

This observation was to report a case of dermatosparaxsis in an Akkaraman lamb. It was performed complete necropsy. And the lesions were described macroscopically and microscopically. In addition, it was included the affected and nonaffected flock to the research. After general clinical examinations; blood, wool and feaces samples were also analysed with regard to hematological (microhematocrit, hemoglobin), biochemical (zinc and copper values in plasma and hair) and parasitological examinations. The parameters of the affected and nonaffected flock were compared with each other. As the problem occured in a closed flock, it was enhanced the earlier hypothesis that genetic factors are …

A comparative study of the Rose Bengal test (RBT), Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA) and complement fixation test (CFT) was performed to analyze sera of two Awassi flocks. Flock A was composed of 215 ewes, naturally infected with brucellosis. None of the animals were vaccinated. Flock B consisted of 336 non-infected non-vaccinated ewes. These served as nega-tive controls. The two flocks were each divided into 4 groups, and samples were collected from one group every 6 months and subjected to bacteriologic and serologic testing. Samples from any aborted ewes were also collected immediately after abortion and 6 weeks later. During the …

The Effect Of Sodium Hydroxide Treatment On Chemical Composition Anddigestibility Of Straw, Münevver Arisoy

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

Digestibility in vivo, in vitro and, in situ and effect on the chemical composition of barley straw following pilot-scale treatment with sodium hydroxide (NaOH) were investigated A range of laboratory measurements were also verified. Laboratory methods included three estimates of digestibility in vivo, in vitro and in situ. NaO treatment reduced the hemicellulose content and this resulted in an increased content of cellulose and lignin in the remaining cell wall. The mean increased in organic matter digestibility. The study was designed also to compare the measurment of digestibility methods. It was determined that the result of the experiment in vitro …

Estrous, Ovulation And Pregnancy Rates Followingpgf_{2\Alpha} Injections In Mares, Mürsel Demi̇rel, Ahmet Semacan, İbrahim Taşal

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

Prostaglandin F2a was commonly used for synchronisation in mares. The purpose of this study was to see the effect of single and double doses of PGF2a on estrous, ovulation and pregnancy rates. Therefore 43 Thoroughbred mares, between 4-17 years old, were used. Thirty mares 10 mg PGF2a (Dinoprost Tromethamine, Dinolytic) was injected intramuscularly, regardless of the stage of the estrous cycle, for synchronization. Estrous behaviors and follicular development were examined with daily teasing and rectal palpation every other day, after PGF2a injection and ovulation times determined daily rectal palpation during estrous. The ma-res which in estrous (n: 11) natural service …
