What Does Problem-Based Learning Look Like In Classrooms?, Linda Torp, Sara Sage
Publications & Research
WHETHER THINKING ABOUT THE UNIVERSE, THE AMBIGUities of life, or the wonders of learning—educators realize that the whole is so much more than any collection of parts. As they work with learners of all ages, they constantly strive to create experiences that are holistic and connected. Ones that enable students to tackle the complexities facing us as citizens in a global community, as well as in everyday situations. Ones that reveal a need to be open-minded and adaptable. Ones that consider the interrelatedness of systems, both natural and contrived.

Disease And Water Supply: The Case Of Cholera In 19th Century Iran, Amir A. Afkhami
Disease And Water Supply: The Case Of Cholera In 19th Century Iran, Amir A. Afkhami
Medicine Faculty Publications
This paper explores why Iran was a particularly fertile ground for repeated visitation of cholera in the 19th century. Along with certain unique Iranian cultural and religious factors, the author demonstrates how Iranian urban ecology, particularly the qanat system, contributed to the fatal spread of the epidemic. These multi-faceted conditions, the author concludes, resulted in distinct modes of disease transmission and mortality in Iran.

The Gender Gap In The 1996 Presidential Election:An Examination Of Gender Gaps In Public Opinion And Political Communication, Nicole Kroetsch
The Gender Gap In The 1996 Presidential Election:An Examination Of Gender Gaps In Public Opinion And Political Communication, Nicole Kroetsch
Honors Theses, 1963-2015
The gender gap in the electorate was highlighted as a distinguishing feature of the presidential election in 1996. Because it was recognized as such an important political phenomenon, citizens, politicians, political strategists and journalists offered explanations for its existence. Two common explanations surfaced: women and men voted differently because they cared about different public issues and women and men voted differently because they responded differently to the communication styles of the candidates. When examining these claims within the specific context of the presidential campaign of 1996, their validity is challenged by solid research. Although there were some political issues, such …
Validating A Health Questionnaire For Predicting Neuropathy In Patients With Insulin-Dependent Diabetes Mellitus, Matthew J. Maurer
Validating A Health Questionnaire For Predicting Neuropathy In Patients With Insulin-Dependent Diabetes Mellitus, Matthew J. Maurer
Honors Theses, 1963-2015
Questionnaires are a cost-effective method for screening large numbers of people for health problems. More expensive clinical follow-up can focus on people whose responses to the questionnaire suggest they are most at risk. To my knowledge, no questionnaire has ever been developed to screen for neuropathy in diabetics. Using the questionnaire developed by Dr. Peter Cavanagh and Dr. Robert Van Deursen at the Center for Locomotion Studies (CELOS) at Penn State University, I was able to create a model from the questionnaire that predicts the presence of neuropathy.

Ageing In The Asia-Pacific Region : Trends And Policy Implications, David Rosser Phillips
Ageing In The Asia-Pacific Region : Trends And Policy Implications, David Rosser Phillips
APIAS Working Paper 工作論文
Summary
This paper reviews the background to demographic ageing in the Asia-Pacific region and discusses some of the economic and cultural features associated with it. The region includes countries exhibiting a variety of experience in demographic ageing and percentages aged 65 years or more range from 3% to 16%. Fairly distinct sub-regional ageing groupings are emerging. At the demographically older extreme lie Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore, Taiwan and Korea. With somewhat smaller percentages of elderly people come China (with huge numbers of elderly people but low per capita income), Thailand and Indonesia and which are likely to have above the …

Effects Of Extruded Corn Or Grain Sorghum On Intake, Digestibility, Weight Gain, And Carcasses Of Finishing Steers, R. J. Gaebe, D. W. Sanson, Ivan G. Rush, M. L. Riley, D. L. Hixon, S. I. Paisley
Panhandle Research and Extension Center
We conducted two trials to evaluate the effects of extruding vs dry-rolling either corn or grain sorghum on intake, digestibility, and performance of finishing steers. In Trial 1, 92 crossbred steers (average BW 413 kg) were used in a 2 x 2 factorial design. Diets contained either dry-rolled corn (RC), extruded corn (EC), dry-rolled grain sorghum (RGS), or extruded grain sorghum (EGS). Diets were fed for 110 d and contained 78.6% of the respective grain, 9% alfalfa pellets, 8.2% molasses, and 4.2% protein-mineral supplement. Daily gain was highest (P < .049) for steers fed RC, and the ADG of steers fed RGS was higher than that of steers fed extruded diets; there was no difference in ADG between steers fed EC and those fed EGS. Steers fed dry-rolled diets consumed more DM (P = .001) than steers fed extruded diets. Feed efficiency …
