University of Nebraska-Lincoln Extension: Historical Materials

Waste is inevitable. Things which have been outgrown, broken, replaced, or are just no longer needed add to the waste produced at homes, acreages and around farms. Most of the waste accumulated around the farm, acreage and home is solid waste. Solid waste includes all discarded materials — newspapers, empty paint cans, liquids, gases, pickle jars, orange peelings, leftover food, worn out shoes, junk mail — this list is endless. Some of these solid wastes contain potentially hazardous materials.

Ec98-790 Farm*A*Syst Nebraska’S System For Assessing Water Contamination Worksheet 14: Crop Nutrient Application Management, Robert Grisso, Delynn Hay, Paul J. Jasa, Richard K. Koelsch, Sharon Skipton, Wayne Woldt

University of Nebraska-Lincoln Extension: Historical Materials

Why should I be concerned? Most Nebraska farmers apply some source of plant nutrients to help improve their crop production each year. Nutrients come from applied chemical fertilizers, manure or sewage sludge, and soil organic matter or legumes. When nutrients move off site or leach out of the root zone, they can pose a threat to the environment and the water we drink.

Activity Of Four Antimicrobial Agents Against Porcine Serpulina Pilosicoli Isolates From The Midwestern United States, Gerald Duhamel, Michelle R. Mathiesen, Joann M. Kinyon, Dorothy Murphy, Don Walter

Nebraska Swine Reports

Porcine colonic spirochetosis (PCS) is a non-fatal, diarrheal disease affecting pigs during the growing and finishing stages of production. The disease is caused by Serpulina pilosicoli, a newly recognized species of intestinal spirochetes. Because Serpulina pilosicoli is transmitted by the fecaloral route, control measures aimed at reducing environmental contamination, including sanitation and antimicrobial therapy, should be investigated. We determined the antimicrobial susceptibility of seven porcine Serpulina pilosicoli isolates recovered from pigs in the midwestern United States against four antimicrobials commonly used for control of swine dysentery, a disease caused by the related spirochete, Serpulina hyodysenteriae. All the isolates were susceptible …

Taking Mortgages Interests In Real Property Under The Guarantee Law Of The People's Republic Of China, Brain Y. Lee

UC Law SF International Law Review

In the fall of 1995, the PRC National People's Congress adopted the Guarantee Law, along with other banking legislation, to reform its troubled financial sector. As the first national secured transaction law in the PRC, the Guarantee Law standardizes the process of taking security and provides commercial banks with a legal tool to more effectively exercise credit allocation and debt recovery against defaulting debtors.

This Note focuses on how the newly-enacted Guarantee Law impacts the procedures and process of taking mortgage interests of real property in the PRC. In particular, it explores how the local mortgage laws in Beijing, Guangzhou, …

As the number of intercountry adoptions increases, it becomes important for countries like the United States to address the immigration needs of foreign children entering the country as the sons and daughters of its residents. This note provides an overview of the history of intercountry adoption in the United States. It gives examples of how the intercountry adoption process works, using China and Russia as examples of the complexity of the current process and the interplay between foreign and domestic law. Porcupine Damage And Repellent Research In The Interior Pacific Northwest, Gary W. Witmer, Michael J. Pipas Jan 1998

Porcupine Damage And Repellent Research In The Interior Pacific Northwest, Gary W. Witmer, Michael J. Pipas

Vertebrate Pest Conference Proceedings: 18th (1998)

Porcupines (Erethizon dorsatum) rely on trees and shrubs for winter food and can cause serious, localized damage to conifers. Twenty-two percent of ponderosa trees (Pinus ponderosa) examined in southeastern Washington were damaged by porcupines. Most damage involved complete girdling of the mid- to upper boles of the larger trees (12 to 30 cm dbh) in the stand. Preliminary repellent trials with captive porcupines suggested that several materials might reduce tree damage, especially predator-associated odors. Field trials are needed to assess efficacy and duration of protection under ambient winter conditions.
