Justice Blackmun's Mark On Criminal Law And Procedure, Kit Kinports
Justice Blackmun's Mark On Criminal Law And Procedure, Kit Kinports
UC Law Constitutional Quarterly
Much has been made of Justice Blackmun's supposed transformation from a "Minnesota TWin" following in the footsteps of Chief Justice Burger to a member of the Supreme Court's liberal wing aligned with Justices Brennan and Marshall. The Justice was appointed at a time when crime control was a major concern both for the American people and for President Nixon, who had pledged to put "law and order" judges on the Supreme Court. Moreover, the Justice's years on the Court coincided with a retreat from a number of the Warren Court precedents that had broadened the constitutional rights afforded criminal defendants. …
Effects Of Copper Sulfate On Benthic Algae; A Laboratory Experiment, Jill Leale
Effects Of Copper Sulfate On Benthic Algae; A Laboratory Experiment, Jill Leale
McNair Scholars Journal
Copper sulfate is applied in inland waters as a management tool to control phytoplankton and the snails associated with the condition of schistiosome dermatitis. Application rates to control algae and snails range from 1.0 mg/l to 25.0 mg/l of copper sulfate, respectively. Previous studies have focused on a variety of aspects of this practice, however, few have determined the effects of copper sulfate treatments on benthic algae. Therefore, a short-term laboratory experiment was executed. Algal communities were established in laboratory microcosms using sediment and water collected from Muskegon Lake, Michigan. Microcosms were assigned to one of four treatments: control 0, …

G98-1777 Windbreak Renovation, James R. Brandle, Jon Wilson, Craig Stange, Mike Kuhns
G98-1777 Windbreak Renovation, James R. Brandle, Jon Wilson, Craig Stange, Mike Kuhns
University of Nebraska-Lincoln Extension: Historical Materials
Windbreaks are an integral part of many farms and ranches and provide critical protection for farmsteads, livestock and crops. Unfortunately, many windbreaks planted in the 1930s and 1940s are losing their effectiveness due to age, poor health or neglect. In some cases, the windbreak no longer has the necessary density to provide winter protection. In other cases, overcrowding may have reduced the health and vigor of the windbreak, or the windbreak may have been invaded by aggressive sod-forming grasses such as smooth brome, reducing tree growth. Whatever the reason, many older windbreaks need renovation.

University of Nebraska-Lincoln Extension: Historical Materials
This NebGuide defines stress and its relationship to anger. It discusses a stress management model, stress-busting technique and helps the reader develop a stress management plan.
What is Stress?
Stress has become a catch-all term to describe events or circumstances that make us feel tense or angry. Stress often is caused by events over which we have no control (destruction of home by tornado or sudden death of a family member) or by a positive event (birth of child). However, most stress comes from the daily pile-up of small aggravations and frustrations.
It is not "things" or events themselves, however, …

University of Nebraska-Lincoln Extension: Historical Materials
Why should I be concerned? Accumulating manure in storage incurs certain risks to the environment and to human and animal health unless appropriate precautions are taken.Manure can contribute nutrients and disease-causing organisms to both surface water and groundwater.

University of Nebraska-Lincoln Extension: Historical Materials
Resource or waste? Stewardship of soil and water resources should be a goal of every livestock producer. Management decisions made relative to land application of livestock manure will influence the ability to attain that goal. An evaluation of your land application practices should focus on the following question: Is manure a waste or are source?

University of Nebraska-Lincoln Extension: Historical Materials
Groundwater protection is an important aspect of farm, ranch and rural homesite management today. Nearly all rural families rely on groundwater for their drinking water. Safeguarding the drinking water depends on where the well is placed on the site, how the well was constructed, how the well is maintained, the siting of new wells, and managing wells no longer in use.

Ec98-772 Farm*A*Syst Nebraska’S System For Assessing Water Contamination Worksheet 8: Household Wastewater Treatment, Robert Grisso, Delynn Hay, Paul J. Jasa, Richard K. Koelsch, Sharon Skipton, Wayne Woldt
University of Nebraska-Lincoln Extension: Historical Materials
Why should I be concerned? Virtually all farms and rural housing use a septic system or similar on-site wastewater treatment system. While these systems are generally economical and safe, household wastewater can contain contaminants that degrade water quality for uses such as drinking, pet and stock watering, food preparation, and cleaning. Potential contaminants in household wastewater include disease-causing bacteria, infectious viruses, household chemicals, and excess nutrients, such as nitrate.

Why should I be concerned? Pesticides are important agricultural production tools that provide many benefits. Pesticides have been developed and used because human beings compete with insects, weeds, diseases and rodents for food, fiber and habitation. Proper management of these pests requires a responsible, systematic approach, which Integrated Pest Management (IPM) provides.

G98-1351 Proper Injection Procedures For Cattle, Dicky D. Griffin, David R. Smith, Dale M. Grotelueschen
University of Nebraska-Lincoln Extension: Historical Materials
This NebGuide describes methods to maximize the effectiveness of injectable medications for cattle, while minimizing potential risks for the animal, the operator and the consumer. The key elements to giving proper injections are knowing why, when, where and how injectable medications should be used. Medications are commonly given to cattle as part of regular husbandry practices to improve health, control disease or increase productivity. Medications may be given by injection, by mouth (orally) or through the skin as a pour-on (topically). Injections are commonly given into the muscle (intramuscularly, or IM), under the skin (subcutaneously, or SC) or into the …
G98-1378 Testing Nebraska's Young Children For Lead, Carroll S. Welte
G98-1378 Testing Nebraska's Young Children For Lead, Carroll S. Welte
University of Nebraska-Lincoln Extension: Historical Materials
This NebGuide discusses why young children in Nebraska should be tested for lead poisoning. It explains sources of lead and ways parents can reduce children's exposure to lead.
Introduction
Lead, a poison that affects virtually every system in the body, is a health issue for parents and caretakers of Nebraska children 6 years old and younger. Small amounts of lead in the body can do serious harm to the developing brain and nervous system of a young child. The risks associated with lead exposure are not assumed or based on laboratory animals, but documented from the studies of children themselves. …

Aids Education On College Campuses, Lauretta A. Dienberg
Aids Education On College Campuses, Lauretta A. Dienberg
Graduate Research Papers
Many researchers have examined the issue of college students and AIDS. Most have come to the same conclusion, that students know how to protect themselves but don't see AIDS as personal threat to their lives. As colleges become more diverse and more students are able to attend college, these issues probably will become more complex. Coupled with diversity issues, AIDS has now become known as a chronic rather than deadly disease, as a result of progress made toward treating AIDS and through early detection.

An Inventory And Condition Survey Of The Sandstone-Yalgoo-Paynes Find Area, Western Australia, A L. Payne, A M E Van Vreeswyk, K A. Leighton, H J. Pringle, P Hennig
Technical Bulletins
The inventory and condition survey of the Sandstone-Yalgoo-Paynes Find area, undertaken by the Department of Agriculture and Food, Western Australia (DAFWA) between 1992 and 1993, describes and maps the natural resources of the region’s pastoral leasehold land. This survey report provides a baseline record of the existence and condition of the area’s natural resources, to assist with the planning and implementation of land management practices. The report identified and described the condition of soils, landforms, vegetation, habitat, ecosystems, and declared plants and animals. It also assessed the impact of pastoralism and made land management recommendations. The area surveyed covers about …
