The Differences In Health Beliefs And The Frequency Of Mammograms Among Older Women, Angela E. Hall
The Differences In Health Beliefs And The Frequency Of Mammograms Among Older Women, Angela E. Hall
Master's Projects
Increasing age is the primary risk factor for breast cancer, yet older women underutilize mammography for early detection. The purpose of this study was to explore any differences in perceived benefits, perceived barriers, and physician recommendation rate between older women who do and those who do not follow current mammogram screening guidelines. A convenience sample of women over 65 years old (N = 70), completed the Health Belief Model questionnaire on mammography. The findings indicate a statistical difference in the perceived benefits to mammograms between the two groups (t = 2.72, p = .008). There was no statistical difference in …
Residential Choices And Prospective Risks Of Nursing Home Entry, Kenneth A. Couch, Duke Kao
Residential Choices And Prospective Risks Of Nursing Home Entry, Kenneth A. Couch, Duke Kao
Center for Policy Research
Nationally representative estimates of the prospective risk of entry into a nursing home and the likelihood of residing in a nursing home are obtained using data from the Longitudinal Study of Aging: 1984-1990. The roles of demographic characteristics, kin availability, and health status in determining entry into and residence in nursing homes is examined. Caregivers facilitate community residence and reduce the risk of nursing home entry for those with functional limitations. Dementia in combination with functional limitations increases the risk of nursing home entry.

An Evaluation Of Methods To Provide Financial Stability As A Person Ages, J. Terrence. Haney
Student Work
Interviews with financial planners, investment bankers, trust officers, and retired persons were conducted in order to make an evaluation of methods to provide financial stability as a person ages. Emphasis was made on Medigap and Long-Term Care Insurance Policies and investment of lump sum retirement distributions. The financial planners recommended that retired persons, not eligible for a continuation of employer health insurance, purchase Medigap or HMO coverage to supplement Medicare. The financial planners also recommended purchase of Long-Term Care Insurance. Information provided by investment bankers and trust officers indicated that retirement funds invested in Equity or Fixed Income Investments with …

Univercity News (1998-10-12)
UniverCity News, 1998-2001
VCU Today, the University’s first official administrative organ, began as a somewhat irregular monthly publication but moved to a bi-weekly newspaper format in the 1980s. The newspaper changed its name to VCU Voice in 1988 and ten years later it appeared under the title UniverCity News. As it neared the end of its run as a physical newspaper, the publication became simply VCU News. These four publications were essentially the same periodical published under different titles by the Office of University Relations. VCU News appeared online for the first time in 2002.
