Vcu Voice (1998-02-09)
VCU Voice, 1988-1998
VCU Today, the University’s first official administrative organ, began as a somewhat irregular monthly publication but moved to a bi-weekly newspaper format in the 1980s. The newspaper changed its name to VCU Voice in 1988 and ten years later it appeared under the title UniverCity News. As it neared the end of its run as a physical newspaper, the publication became simply VCU News. These four publications were essentially the same periodical published under different titles by the Office of University Relations. VCU News appeared online for the first time in 2002.

Esl Learners: Process Writing And Publishing Good Literature, Jane F. Rudden, Anita R. Nedeff
Reading Horizons: A Journal of Literacy and Language Arts
The purpose of this article is to report on our examination of books written by children who are ESL learners, and compare the books with criteria for meritorious literature (Norton, 1995), and to discuss the implications of the results relevant to process writing instruction with second language learners. The books examined were written by students in grades K through 5 in a rural elementary school. They had been in the United States for a short period of time. Their familiarization with process writing was due to its being a part of their daily curriculum. The school's writing program embraces those …
Making Interdisciplinary Connections To Your School Gardening Program, Marcia Eames-Sheavly
Making Interdisciplinary Connections To Your School Gardening Program, Marcia Eames-Sheavly
Taproot: A Journal of Outdoor Education
Gardening is an exciting, approachable way to teach kids about plants. A good gardening program doesn't need to be one more thing thrown on your plate; by integrating it into the curriculum, gardening can be easy and interdisciplinary. Interdisciplinary projects enhance young peoples' ability to make connections among isolated facts, and to find meaning among those arbitrary facts. A U.S. News and World Report article (January 1993) pointed out that some interdisciplinary pilot projects in New York and Los Angeles schools even improved school attendance, and decreased drop-out rates.

Educational Gardening, Sharon Lovejoy
Taproot: A Journal of Outdoor Education
My husband and I have a family business where we work together to put in public gardens that have touched the lives of hundreds of thousands people. Today my husband asked, "Why did we do that?" And I said, "Because I don't care about clothes, and I don't care about fancy cars. But, I love to buy plants and work with kids, and I like to buy a few books once in a while." So, all it really takes is hard work and creative imagination, and wonders can be accomplished.
Preservation Of Glaciochemical Time-Series In Snow And Ice From The Penny Ice Cap, Baffin Island, Nancy S. Grumet, Cameron P. Wake, Gregory A. Zielinski, David Fisher, Roy M. Koerner, John D. Jacobs
Preservation Of Glaciochemical Time-Series In Snow And Ice From The Penny Ice Cap, Baffin Island, Nancy S. Grumet, Cameron P. Wake, Gregory A. Zielinski, David Fisher, Roy M. Koerner, John D. Jacobs
Earth Sciences
A detailed investigation of major ion concentrations of snow and ice in the summit region of Penny Ice Cap (PIC) was performed to determine the effects of summer melt on the glaciochemical time-series. While ion migration due to meltwater percolation makes it difficult to confidently count annual layers in the glaciochemical profiles, time-series of these parameters do show good structure and a strong one year spectral component, suggesting that annual to biannual signals are preserved in PIC glaciochemical records.
