The Coming Forth Of The Book Of Mormon In The Twentieth Century, Noel B. Reynolds Aug 1998

The Coming Forth Of The Book Of Mormon In The Twentieth Century, Noel B. Reynolds

Faculty Publications

I hope this study, however preliminary it might appear, will provide a sound first step toward developing our self-understanding as Latter-day Saints of the history of Book of Mormon use in the twentieth century and the phenomenal increase in understanding, appreciation, and study that has taken place over the last three to four decades. This study may also offer one useful perspective for the gradually emerging history of cultural Mormonism and its antipathy to the Book of Mormon. This study is grounded in the analysis of a number of possible indicators of intensity of interest in the Book of Mormon …

Agricultural Water Management In The Missippi Delta Region Of Arkansas, H. Don Scott, James A. Ferguson, Linda Hanson, Todd Fugitt, Earl Smith

AAES Research Reports and Research Bulletins

Agriculture is the largest use of soil and water resources in eastern Arkansas. This bulletin summarized the recent historical use of soil and water by agriculture and the impact of irrigation on yields of rice, soybeans and cotton. The experiments conducted in the field to quantitatively schedule irrigations of crops are summarized. The results show the close relationship between the irrigation of crops and the extraction of water from the Alluvial Aquifer. The implications of this relationaship for the future are discussed.

Predicting Academic Success In College Using The Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale-Revised, Katherine Bishop Aug 1998

Predicting Academic Success In College Using The Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale-Revised, Katherine Bishop

Masters Theses & Specialist Projects

The prediction of success in college has received a substantial amount of research interest. A variety of predictor variables have been examined including personality and demographic variables as well as scores on standardized college entrance examinations. However, few studies have included the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale-Revised (WAIS-R). In the present study, this researcher examined the ability of the WAIS-R to predict college success as measured by grade point average (GPA). The participants were 49 undergraduates, from a public university, who volunteered for intellectual assessments. It was hypothesized that the WAIS-R would predict college GPA. The prediction was expected to be …

Gender Differences In College Students' Attributions For Success And Failure, Anna Hutton Aug 1998

Gender Differences In College Students' Attributions For Success And Failure, Anna Hutton

Masters Theses & Specialist Projects

Attributions for success and failure have been the topic of much research. One area of focus is that of gender differences. Research has produced highly inconsistent results, but many believe that differences exist in the way men and women attribute success and failure. The present study was designed to identify differences in the ways college men and women make attributions for success and failure and to determine whether there are gender differences in attributions for success and failure in ego-involved areas. Three hundred and ninety undergraduate students completed the Collegiate Attributions Scale. Results showed that (a) college students are more …

Coping Mechanisms Of Older Adults With Diabetic Foot Ulcers, Mary M. Snuggs Aug 1998

Coping Mechanisms Of Older Adults With Diabetic Foot Ulcers, Mary M. Snuggs

MSN Research Projects

Diabetic foot problems are a significant cause of foot and limb amputation (Dorgan, Birke, Moretto, Patout, & Rehm, 1995). Because o f the devastating physical and psychological effects of amputation, aggressive treatment o f diabetic foot problems is warranted to prevent loss o f limb. Promotion o f effective coping is one successful method o f therapeutic treatment. According to nursing theorist Betty Neuman (1995), effective coping with external stressors is imperative for an individual’s health, harmony, and personal integrity. This study was conducted to describe the coping mechanisms o f older adults with diabetic foot ulcers. The research question …

Starling Management In Agriculture, Ron J. Johnson, James F. Glahn Aug 1998

Starling Management In Agriculture, Ron J. Johnson, James F. Glahn

Other Publications in Wildlife Management

European starlings (Sturnus vulgaris) were brought to the United States from Europe. They were released in New York City in 1890 and 1891 and, since that time, have spread across the country. They were observed in the midwest by 1930, in Colorado in 1939, and in California in 1942. The starling population in the United States has since grown to an estimated 140 million birds. Starlings are frequently considered pests because of the damage they cause, especially to agriculture and in urban roosts. This publication provides facts about starlings and methods to control their damage in agriculture.

The Effects Of Multicultural Diversity Training On The Development Of A Multicultural Perspective In Preservice Teachers, Lorie Mullins Aug 1998

The Effects Of Multicultural Diversity Training On The Development Of A Multicultural Perspective In Preservice Teachers, Lorie Mullins

Masters Theses & Specialist Projects

The purpose of the present study was to investigate the effects of a multicultural diversity workshop in helping preservice teachers to develop a multicultural perspective and to determine whether any significant differences existed for the preservice teachers in terms of their gender, age, geographic background, and preferred teaching level. Participants were 216 preservice teachers enrolled in an educational psychology course at Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green, Kentucky. A repeated-measures design was used to determine if significant changes had occurred as a result of the preservice teachers' attendance of a multicultural diversity workshop. The method of assessment involved four composite …
