Review Of Baby Bird Portraits By George Miksch Sutton By Paula. Johnsgard, James D. Rising Oct 1998

Review Of Baby Bird Portraits By George Miksch Sutton By Paula. Johnsgard, James D. Rising

Great Plains Research: A Journal of Natural and Social Sciences (through 2013)

I love this book. First and foremost, it is a collection of important paintings beautiful in their own right. George Miksch ("Doc") Sutton was one of the most influential ornithologists and bird artists of the twentieth century and a leader in painting living birds in the field. Among his more important contributions were several paintings of nestling and young birds, many of them now in a collection at Chicago's Field Museum. Baby Bird Portraits reproduces thirty-four of these studies, many for the first time, in outstanding color, making them available in a single volume.

This is a significant book both …

Influence Of Physical Setting On Seagrass Landscapes Near Beaufort, North Carolina, Usa, Mark S. Fonseca, Susan S. Bell Oct 1998

Influence Of Physical Setting On Seagrass Landscapes Near Beaufort, North Carolina, Usa, Mark S. Fonseca, Susan S. Bell

Integrative Biology Faculty and Staff Publications

Field surveys were conducted in Core and Back Sounds, North Carolina, USA, to relate the physical setting of seagrass beds, as measured by a wave exposure index (REI), tidal current speed and water depth, to various measures of the sedimentary environment, spatial heterogeneity of seagrass distribution and measures of seagrass abundance. Seagrass beds in this area form patterns ranging from continuous to semi-continuous to widely dispersed, discrete patches across a gradient of increasing hydrodynamic activity. Tidal current speeds, exposure to waves and relative water depths revealed strong correlative evidence that physical processes influenced landscape-scale (50 x 50 m range with …

Values And Reward Preferences Of Prospective Engineers, S Bhargava

IIMB Management Review

A study conducted among students of a leading Indian institute of engineering and technology yielded useful and significant insights into the preferred rewards and motivators, personal values and background, attitudes and job prospects of prospective engineers, considered to be the cream of Indian youth and likely to assume positions of leadership in the fields of engineering and management. The findings of the study could help solve prevalent problems in designing organisational structures and reward systems and in improving the quality of engineering education and prospects for engineers in Indian organisations.

The New American Caste System: The Supreme Court And Discrimination Among Civil Rights Plaintiffs, Melissa L. Koehn Oct 1998

The New American Caste System: The Supreme Court And Discrimination Among Civil Rights Plaintiffs, Melissa L. Koehn

University of Michigan Journal of Law Reform

Fifteen percent of the decisions issued by the Supreme Court during its 1996-97 Term centered around section 1983. Section 1983 provides civil rights plaintiffs with a procedural mechanism for vindicating their federally protected rights, including those enshrined in the Constitution. The Court's decisions from its 1996-97 Term reflect a continuation of the alarming trend that has permeated section 1983 for the last two decades-a movement to decrease the scope of section 1983, regardless of the impact on constitutional rights. The Supreme Court appears to be creating a hierarchy both of constitutional rights and of plaintiffs: free speech and takings claims …
