The Problematic Of Experience : Redefining Critical Work In Ethnography And Pedagogy., Min-Zhan Lu, Bruce Horner
The Problematic Of Experience : Redefining Critical Work In Ethnography And Pedagogy., Min-Zhan Lu, Bruce Horner
Faculty and Staff Scholarship
Explores the convergence between projects in ethnographic research and composition pedagogy that emphasize the critical power of experience. Argues that critical ethnography and pedagogy need to redefine "experience" and its function for research and teaching and that composition can help this redefinition by looking for ways to build and constructively use a tension between teaching and research practices.

Vcu Voice (1998-02-09)
VCU Voice, 1988-1998
VCU Today, the University’s first official administrative organ, began as a somewhat irregular monthly publication but moved to a bi-weekly newspaper format in the 1980s. The newspaper changed its name to VCU Voice in 1988 and ten years later it appeared under the title UniverCity News. As it neared the end of its run as a physical newspaper, the publication became simply VCU News. These four publications were essentially the same periodical published under different titles by the Office of University Relations. VCU News appeared online for the first time in 2002.

Women In The Contact Zone. Review Of The Frontiers Of Women’S Writing: Women’S Narratives And The Rhetoric Of Westward Expansion By Brigitte Georgi-Findlay, Kathleen Fitzpatrick
Women In The Contact Zone. Review Of The Frontiers Of Women’S Writing: Women’S Narratives And The Rhetoric Of Westward Expansion By Brigitte Georgi-Findlay, Kathleen Fitzpatrick
Pomona Faculty Publications and Research
Georgi-Findlay's project in The Frontiers of Women's Writing is in many ways a synthesis of these two revisionary projects, both re-attributing importance to women's narratives of westward expansion and re-reading those narratives for their constructions of the colonialist presence in the west. She examines in these narratives, which span genres including fiction, travel writing, semi-public diaries, and personal letters, across "a range of cultural discourses ordering relations of race, class, and gender" (pp. x-xi) to show how "women's accounts are implicated in expansionist processes at the same time that they formulate positions of innocence and detachment" (p. xi). By mobilizing …

Affluent Parents Of Young Children: Neglected Parent Education Audience, Maureen T. Mulroy, Jane Goldman, Cassandra Wales
Affluent Parents Of Young Children: Neglected Parent Education Audience, Maureen T. Mulroy, Jane Goldman, Cassandra Wales
Journal of Extension
Extension parent educators have gone to considerable effort to design parent education programs and materials that are responsive to the needs of a wide array of audiences. However, there is one group of parents whose needs have not been addressed: parents living and rearing children in affluent circumstances. Responses of 85 affluent mothers of young children documented strong interest in participating in parent education programs. Topics and items of child and family functioning that were of high interest to this group are described. Suggestions for program format are given.
