Birds Of The Oak Lake Field Station, Kristel K. Bakker, N. H. Troelstrup Jr. Sep 1998

Birds Of The Oak Lake Field Station, Kristel K. Bakker, N. H. Troelstrup Jr.

Oak Lake Field Station Research Publications

A preliminary check-off list of avian species was compiled using regional field guides shortly after the establishment of the field station (Northern Plains Biological Field Station Committee 1987). While this list has been a useful reference, little observational data have been available to establish accuracy. Field observation data were collected to verify this checklist and establish a baseline inventory of resident and migratory avifauna for the station. Obse1vations were collected Janua1y 1994 through August 1996 during bird watching expeditions and research activities. In addition, formal bird counts were conducted at eight sites along 100 m transects of 30 m fixed …

The Design And Evaluation Of Distributed Graph-Theoretic Heuristics For Computing Pairwise Interactions Of Moving Entities, Darren R. Law Sep 1998

The Design And Evaluation Of Distributed Graph-Theoretic Heuristics For Computing Pairwise Interactions Of Moving Entities, Darren R. Law

Link Foundation Modeling, Simulation and Training Fellowship Reports

In recent years the focus of training simulations, particularly those in the defense domain, has been on increasing the number of simulated entities. This focus, coupled with the requirement for geographically distributed training sites, has led to increased interest in distributed simulation of the battlefield environment. The large efforts involved in the development of the DIS (Distributed Interactive Simulation) protocol and the HLA (High Level Architecture) have attempted to address these DoD (Department of Defense) requirements in several ways. The cost of con1puting the interactions between pairs of simulated entities frequently dominates system execution time. The difficulty of evaluating these …

Hybrid Force-Feedback Control For Virtual Environments, Carol Chesney Sep 1998

Hybrid Force-Feedback Control For Virtual Environments, Carol Chesney

Link Foundation Modeling, Simulation and Training Fellowship Reports

The scope of this project is the design and implementation of a force-feedback device that utilizes brakes as well as motors for hybrid force control.. The device is a pen-sized device for planar point force-feedback. The design and software are implemented with consideration towards extending the force-feedback technology to three dimensions. The benefits of such a hybrid device include increased safety and realism. Larger forces can be reflected safely in the form of impenetrable constraints and instabilities can reduced or eliminated. The passive force component is the only way to accommodate the model of static friction. Delay in force measurement …
