Jamesville-Dewitt High School Benchmarking Project : Year One Report, Syracuse University. Maxwell School. Community Benchmarks Program.
Community Benchmarks Program
A high school benchmarking program was established to meet the increasing need for schools to continuously evaluate their performance and the need for students to acquire citizenship skills through hands-on learning. Jamesville-Dewitt (J-D) High School accepted an invitation from Dr. William Coplin, co-director of the Community Benchmarks Program (CBP) at the Maxwell School of Syracuse University, to participate in a year-long pilot project

Information Resource Management: An Analysis Of The Importance Of Critical Skills As Perceived By Air Force Communications And Information Commanders, Susan E. Phillips
Theses and Dissertations
This study explores what Information Resource Management skills are required in the Communications Information career field as perceived by the Air Force commanders. A previous study polled junior officers, and this study furthers the research by sampling commanders who represent the leadership of the Communication Information career field. The following questions were addressed: (1) What are the skills commanders perceive as most important to the IRM mission? (2) Of those skills, where do the commanders perceive their organization's members' weaknesses? (3) What are the primary sources of training for commanders in the career field? (4) What expectations do commanders have …
Student Assessment Selection Behavior Analysis Of Institutions Conducting Distance Education, Clayton W. Sammons
Student Assessment Selection Behavior Analysis Of Institutions Conducting Distance Education, Clayton W. Sammons
Theses and Dissertations
This thesis discovers issues universities use when deciding what types of exams will be used for distance education students. Many universities conduct distance education courses electronically but do not conduct the evaluation instruments electronically. Universities across the country, diversified by academic rankings, tuition, and student population were interviewed. Results generally revealed security concerns as the most prevalent reason for universities avoiding electronic exams. However, some universities have created evaluation methods to mitigate the security risks and perform electronic assessments such as projects or exams that are tailored to reduce the possibility of cheating. Examples of the tailored exam questions include …
An Exploratory Study On The Strategic Use Of Information Technology In The Source Selection Decision-Making Process, Kathy L. Spainhower
An Exploratory Study On The Strategic Use Of Information Technology In The Source Selection Decision-Making Process, Kathy L. Spainhower
Theses and Dissertations
The strategic use of Information Technology in the acquisition field can be very useful in the decision making process of evaluating alternative solutions during a Government source selection. Current implementation of information technology provides a more tactical approach to systems development. The use of Electronic Commerce/Electronic Data Interchange and the internet to electronically transfer information is only the beginning of the shift towards a more strategic design process for information systems within Government procurement agencies. A schematic model was designed to demonstrate how information technology, such as Decision Support Systems, Expert Systems, and Shared Data Warehousing could assist the SSA …

Condensing The Field: Internet Communication And Gestalt Community, Philip Brownell
Condensing The Field: Internet Communication And Gestalt Community, Philip Brownell
Doctor of Psychology (PsyD)
This article examines the influence of internet communication on the Gestalt community from the standpoint of the field. Drawing on current internet sources, field theorists, and Gestalt therapists, the work describes the internet. explaining key field dynamics, and it concludes that the global community of Gestalt therapy is undergoing rapid change due to internet influence. That community is being enriched; it is becoming more aware of itself, and consequently its individual members are experiencing a professional camaraderie made more complex and more richly connected. At the same time, because of this increasing connectedness, it is also condensing. lnternet communication is …
Fictional Persona Test: Copyright Preemption In Human Audiovisual Characters, Peter K. Yu
Fictional Persona Test: Copyright Preemption In Human Audiovisual Characters, Peter K. Yu
Faculty Scholarship
Whether a producer's copyright in human audiovisual characters preempts the actors' rights of publicity claims is the focus of this Note. Part I outlines the framework of state right of publicity law and traces the development of case law involving such a right. Because "[a]dvertisers who want to run a particular advertisement nationally must comply with the law of all fifty states," this Note focuses on the right of publicity of the state with the broadest interpretation-the state of California. This Part shows that, under existing California right of publicity law, virtually anything evoking one's personal identity, including copyrighted materials, …

A Feedback-Driven Proportion Allocator For Real-Rate Scheduling, David Steere, Ashvin Goel, Joshua Gruenberg, Dylan Mcnamee, Calton Pu, Jonathan Walpole
Computer Science Faculty Publications and Presentations
In this paper we propose changing the decades-old practice of allocating CPU to threads based on priority to a scheme based on proportion and period. Our scheme allocates to each thread a percentage of CPU cycles over a period of time, and uses a feedback-based adaptive scheduler to assign automatically both proportion and period. Applications with known requirements, such as isochronous software devices, can bypass the adaptive scheduler by specifying their desired proportion and/or period. As a result, our scheme provides reservations to applications that need them, and the benefits of proportion and period to those that do not. Adaptive …
Hematite And Calcite Coatings On Fossil Vertebrates, Huiming Bao, Paul L. Koch, Robert P. Hepple
Hematite And Calcite Coatings On Fossil Vertebrates, Huiming Bao, Paul L. Koch, Robert P. Hepple
Faculty Publications
Hematite coatings are common on vertebrate fossils from Paleocene/Eocene paleosol deposits in the Bighorn Basin, Wyoming. In general, hematite coatings are found only on fossils and are limited to soils exhibiting hydromorphic features and moderate maturity. Petrographic and isotopic evidence suggests that hematite and micritic calcite formed at nearly the same time in a pedogenic environment, whereas sparry calcite formed later at greater burial depths. The parent material of paleosols is rich in iron, supplying an ample source of iron for hematite formation. Decomposition of animal tissues around bones may enhance the weathering of iron-bearing minerals in soils surrounding carcasses, …
