Challis Resource Area Proposed Resource Management Plan And Final Environmental Impact Statement Volume 2 (Of 2), United States Department Of The Interior, Bureau Of Land Management
Resource Management Plans (ID)
The climate of the Challis Resource Area is influenced primarily by maritime air carried eastward on prevailing westerly winds. General climatic characteristics are abundant sunshine, low humidity, and high evaporation. The major precipitation source, particularly for winter storms, is the Northern Pacific Ocean. In the summer, however, most of the thunderstorm activity is caused by moisture-laden air originating from the south, off the Pacific coast of Mexico.

Final Environmental Impact Statement For The Powder River Coal Lease Application (Wyw136142) And Thundercloud Coal Lease Application (Wyw136458), United States Department Of The Interior, Bureau Of Land Management
Final Environmental Impact Statements (WY)
This Final Environment Impact Statement (FEIS) assesses the environmental consequences of a federal decision to offer two federal coal tracts in southeastern Campbell County, Wyoming for lease at separate, competitive, sealed bid sales, subject to standard and special lease stipulations. The Powder River Lease By Application (LBA) Tract as applied for by Powder River Coal Company includes approximately 4,020 acres containing approximately 515 million tons of federal coal. Powder River coal company operates the adjacent North Antelope and Rochelle Mines. The Thundercloud LBA Tract, which is located approximately 9 miles north of the Powder River LBA Tract, was applied for …

Regulating Cyberspace: Metaphor, Rhetoric, Reality, And The Framing Of Legal Options, Clay Calvert
UC Law SF Communications and Entertainment Journal
This Article argues that the "information superhighway" metaphor is a strategically chosen rhetorical device used to frame debate about Internet and telecommunications regulation, to implicitly suggest the particular legal choices are more viable-and valid-than others, and to guide the future of law in cyberspace. In particular, the metaphor embraces a commerce-based, marketplace model of regulation that emphasizes speed and quantity of information as a product or good rather than the content or quality of communication and its ability to sustain extant communities and cultures. Along the way, the Article traces the development of the "information superhighway" metaphor and explores some …

Measuring & Monitering Plant Populations, Caryl L. Elzinga, Daniel W. Salzer, John W. Willoughby
United States Bureau of Land Management: Staff Publications
This technical reference describes the role of effective monitoring and provides a step-by-step overview of the entire monitoring process for single plant species. The challenges of successful monitoring involve efficient and specific design and a commitment to implementation of the monitoring project, from data collection to reporting and using results. The material in this reference is presented in a logical progression from planning and objective setting, designing the methodology, and taking the measurements in the field to analyzing and presenting the data and making the necessary management responses. However, many of the steps occur simultaneously or provide feedback for the …

The Château Anet As Artistic Inspiration, Margaret Harp
The Château Anet As Artistic Inspiration, Margaret Harp
Quidditas
From its inception, the Renaissance Château Anet, located due east of Paris just outside of the town of Dreux, was envisaged as a locale not only for the best and brightest of the royal court—namely, the king Henry II and his mistress Diane de Poitiers—but also as a veritable canvas for the most prominent architects, sculptors, painters, and poets of the day. These artists, and particularly the poets, viewed Anet as a spectacular artifice that mirrored Diane's beauty and elegance. While clearly catering to the court, the poetry reflected the common perception of Anet. Upon visiting the chateau in 1557 …

Quidditas
Whilst vitall sapp did make me spring,
And leafe and bough did flourish brave,
I then was dumbe and could not sing,
Ne had the voice which now I have:
But when the axe my life did end,
The Muses nine this voice did send.
—Verses upon the earl of Cork's lute, attributed (ca. 1633) to Edmund Spenser

Rough Cilicia Archaeological Survey Project: Report Of The 1998 Season, Michael Hoff, Nicholas K. Rauh, Rhys Townsend, Luann Wandsnider
Department of Anthropology: Faculty Publications
During the 1998 season the Rough Cilicia Survey team shifted the focus of our research to the discovery and analysis of rural sites and rural field tracks in the southern coastal portion of the survey zone (between ancient Selinus, modern Gazipasha, and ancient Nephelion (modern Muzkent). To learn more about historic landscape use in the area, the field team surveyed 21 transects comprising more than 17 linear kilometers of survey terrain. To record our finds we employed GPS tracking devices to track our progress on 1:5000 topographical maps acquired from the Tapu ve Kadastro Genel Müdürlügü (all sites are identified …

The Angle
In lieu of an abstract, below is the essay's first paragraph.
"A shadow slid across the woman's face on the late September day. A cold wind whipped the clouds, their formations slicing the sun into lop-sided, jagged pieces. Even with the cool air coming through the open kitchen window, drops of sweat bubbled up on Joyce's lip and brow."

Anything Goes, Anne Steger
The Angle
In lieu of an abstract, below is the essay's first paragraph.
"'Does anyone have any questions?' Mr. Becker made the statement sound like a dare. The executive producer searched the faces of his staff, looking for the slightest hint of uncertainty. Leanne's eyes locked with his, as if to say, I knew it. The corners of her lips tilted slightly upwards, just enough to suggest that she agreed with the results of this meeting, without looking smug. It was easy now, it was almost pathetic."

Comparative Gene Mapping: Cytogenetic Localization Of Proc, En1, Alpi, Tnp1, And Il1b In Cattle And Sheep Reveals A Conserved Rearrangement Relative To The Human Genome, N. L. Lòpez-Corrales, T. S. Sonstegard, T. P. L. Smith
Roman L. Hruska U.S. Meat Animal Research Center: Reports
The cytogenetic locations of the genes for protein C (PROC), transition protein 1 (TNP1), intestinal alkaline phosphatase (ALPI), engrailed (EN1), and human protointerleukin ß (IL1B) have been compared between cattle (Bos taurus, BTA) and sheep (Ovis aries, OAR). Bovine YAC and cosmid clones were used as FISH probes to determine the order (centromere to telomere) of four of these genes on OAR 2q, as well as the location of IL1B on OAR 3p. In cattle, IL1B and EN1 were assigned to BTA 11 and BTA 2, respectively. Alignment of the ovine, bovine, and human physical maps based on these data …

Incorporation Of Nisin Into A Meat Binding System To Inhibit Bacteria On Beef Surfaces, C. N. Cutter, G. R. Siragusa
Incorporation Of Nisin Into A Meat Binding System To Inhibit Bacteria On Beef Surfaces, C. N. Cutter, G. R. Siragusa
Roman L. Hruska U.S. Meat Animal Research Center: Reports
In two separate experiments, the bacteriocin, nisin, was incorporated into a commercially available meat binding system (Fibrimex®) and applied to meat surfaces as a way of inhibiting the meat spoilage organism, Brochothrix thermosphacta during extended refrigerated storage. In experiment 1, pre-rigor lean beef carcass tissue (BCT) was inoculated with B. thermosphacta, left untreated (U), treated with 10 µg ml-1 nisin (N), Fibrimex® (F) or Fibrimex® containing 10 µg ml-1 nisin (FN), held aerobically at 4 °C for up to 7 d, and populations of B. thermosphacta and nisin activity determined. Experiment 2 determined the effects of the same …
