Staphylococcus Succi Nus Sp. Nov., Isolated From Dominican Amber, L. H. Lambert, T. Cox, K. Mitchell, R. A. Rosselló-Mora, C. Del Cueto, D. E. Dodge, P. Orkand, R. J. Cano

Biological Sciences

Two bacterial isolates, designated AMG-D1Tand AMG-D2, were recovered from 25-35-million-year-old Dominican amber. AMG-D1Tand AMG-D2 biochemically most closely resemble Staphylococcus xylosus; they differ physiologically from other staphylococci. Fatty acid analysis and comparisons with extensive databases were unable to show relatedness to any specific taxon. Moreover, AMG-D1Tand AMG-D2 contain tuberculostearic acid and meso-diaminopimelic acid, characteristic of the G+C-rich coryneform bacteria, as opposed to L-lysine characteristic of staphylococci. AMG-D1Tand AMG-D2 have a G+C ratio of 35 mol%. Phylogenetic analysis with the 16S rRNA gene indicated that AMG-D1Tand AMG-D2 were most closely …

Storybook Reading And The Speech Language Pathologist: A Fundamental Partnership For Speech And Language Intervention, Angela Crume Apr 1998

Storybook Reading And The Speech Language Pathologist: A Fundamental Partnership For Speech And Language Intervention, Angela Crume

Mahurin Honors College Capstone Experience/Thesis Projects

Because of the relationship between speech and language delays and reading difficulties, speech-language pathologists should be encouraged to include elements of reading in their therapy with preschoolers. By using such activities, speech-language pathologists should observe an increase in the language and speech abilities of their clients, regardless of the children's present abilities. Reading can be included in the context of therapy in various ways, but the most efficient way is to design thematic units with correlated prereading and postreading activities.

The Stability Of Bond Financed Deficits: A Critique Of The Literature, Vivek Moorthy Apr 1998

The Stability Of Bond Financed Deficits: A Critique Of The Literature, Vivek Moorthy

Working Papers

A large body of literature has concluded that bond finance of the deficit is unstable because of rising interest payments on the debt. This paper criticizes this literature in detail, focussing on the Blinder-Solow and Sargent-Wallace papers. It argues that conclusions regarding a debt trap under bond finance stem from unrealistic assumptions about the interest rate, and not from the assumption of budget balance in the Blinder- Solow model, as commonly believed. An adaptive expectations Fisher-equationspecification for how interest rates respond to the mode of debt financing and to inflation, implies that, in a growth framework, stability under bond finance …

Environmental Assessment For The Designation Of The Continental Divide National Scenic Trail, United States Department Of The Interior, Bureau Of Land Management

Environmental Assessments (WY)

On October 2, 1968, Congress passed the National Trails System Act. This Act called for the establishment of a system of national scenic trails "which will be extended trails so located as to provide for maximum outdoor recreation potential and for the conservation and enjoyment of the nationally significant scenic, historic, natural, or cultural qualities of the areas through which such trails may pass." As a result of 1978 amendment to this Act, Congress designated the Continental Divide National Scenic Trail (CDNST) as part of the National Scenic Trail system. The CDNST is a trail route traversing the length of …

Fisheries Management Report No. 4 - Planning For The Further Development Of The Aquaculture And Marine Farming Industry At Jurien Bay, Dave Everall

Fisheries Published Reports

There is a well documented global requirement for some twenty million tonnes of edible sea foods from aquaculture in the next fifteen years. Most of the projected increase in production will need to be from mariculture because of limiting factors on land based aquaculture. At present, approximately 85%of all aquaculture occurs in the Asian region.

Globally, temperate water species have market advantages because of their ability to supply a growing market preference for a firm white fleshed fin fish. Although significant temperate water aquaculture occurs in various countries north of the equator, there are growing environmental concerns surrounding production of …
