The Juice Is Loose?: A Qualitative Study Of Employees' Perceptions Of Informal And Formal Communication Channels, Warren Jerome Brown
The Juice Is Loose?: A Qualitative Study Of Employees' Perceptions Of Informal And Formal Communication Channels, Warren Jerome Brown
Dissertations and Theses
The purpose of this study was to determine how employees perceive formal and informal communication channels within their organizational experiences. This study sought to answer two questions: One, what are employees' perceptions of formal and informal communication channels? Two, what similar or dissimilar perceptions of formal and informal communication channels emerge from interview and observational data?
I selected eight respondents from the greater Olympia, Washington and Seattle, Washington areas. Each respondent was purposely selected based upon their rich experiences across different sizes of and public/private structures of organizations. Additionally, I conducted seven observations within a medium-sized (50 -75 employee) public …

Managerial Stress In Hong Kong And Taiwan : A Comparative Study, Oi Ling Siu, Luo Lu, Cary L. Cooper
Centre for Public Policy Studies : CPPS Working Paper Series
The purpose of this study was to investigate occupational stress in managers in Hong Kong (N=280) and Taiwan (N=347) using the Occupational Stress Indicator-2 (OSI-2). The results showed that the reliabilities and predictive validity of the OSI-2 subscales were reasonably high in both samples. The logical relationships between job satisfaction, mental and physical well-being that were found in the two samples have provided support to the findings obtained in Western countries. The predictors for health effects were various and many in the two places. Further, there were gender differences in managerial stress in Hong Kong: female managers scored higher in …

WKU Administration Documents
Institutional review conducted during Barbara Burch's interim presidency of WKU and presidential search.
Western Kentucky is a good university essentially trapped in time and therefore unable to change significantly. Until these constraints are eliminated or modified, the University will not be able to effectively address major issues of focus, enrollment, organization, personnel, curriculum, governance, athletics, planning and increased public and private support. Rather, it will continue to drift with occasional peripheral and cosmetic changes, none of which will be sufficient to successfully relate to Kentucky's new plan for post-secondary education.
The problems that prevent significant institutional transformation are several, but …

Educator Preparation & Leadership Faculty Works
This study takes place within the context of the Science: Parents, Activities, and Literature (Science PALS) project and examines elementary school students' reactions to instruction implemented by teachers participating in this special problem-centered professional development program. The study focuses on student perceptions of their science instruction and student attitudes toward science learning as a function of their exposure to interactive, constructivist teaching strategies designed to focus on student ideas, utilization of literature connections, and incorporation of parents as partners. Using student perceptions and attitudes as dependent variables, teacher participation as the main independent variable, and grade levels and student gender …
