Corrosion Fatigue Crack Growth Behavior Of Aircraft Materials, Tarun Goswami, D. W. Hoeppner Jan 1997

Corrosion Fatigue Crack Growth Behavior Of Aircraft Materials, Tarun Goswami, D. W. Hoeppner

Biomedical, Industrial & Human Factors Engineering Faculty Publications

The effects of test parameters on the corrosion fatigue crack growth behavior of structural materials have been examined in this paper. Test parameters such as stress ratio, frequency, hold time, temperature, pH level of the media, and other parameters are known to alter the corrosion fatigue crack growth rates in structural materials. Numerous laboratory test variables that affect the crack growth and/or corrosion growth rates, which in an operating environment of an aircraft are not characterized, are reviewed. A summary of such information may help determine the inspection intervals of the new and aged airplanes, perform the inspections, and develop …

Swosu Fact Book Fall 1997, Denisa Engelman

Fact Books

I am proud to introduce the sixth annual Southwestern Oklahoma State University Fact Book. It provides a ready source of information to answer frequently asked questions about the University and its operations. Unless otherwise noted, the information in this Fact Book came from computer-generated reports that are printed following the tenth class day of each fall semester. Because of student fluctuations during the semester, numbers will not match other published enrollment numbers that may be based on enrollment at the end of a semester.

The Challenge Of Providing Adequate Housing For The Elderly . . . Along With Everyone, Alan C. Weinstein Jan 1997

The Challenge Of Providing Adequate Housing For The Elderly . . . Along With Everyone, Alan C. Weinstein

Law Faculty Articles and Essays

Our patterns of land use and development have failed to accommodate the changed housing needs of an aging population. Primary among these needs is the desire of the elderly to be able to "age in place." To meet this need, America's suburban communities in particular will need to re-think their reliance on exclusive single-family zoning and begin planning and zoning for an increasingly large number of the elderly. Despite understandable concerns about maintaining housing values, this may well prove to be politically achievable simply because the very demographic changes that create the need will create a growing constituency in favor …

Keynote Colloquy: Finding Justice In The Internet Dimension, Hon. Alex Kozinski Jan 1997

Keynote Colloquy: Finding Justice In The Internet Dimension, Hon. Alex Kozinski

Seattle University Law Review

The Internet community—just like all other speech communities—ought to be afforded First Amendment protections. I don't see any reason why Internet speech should be treated any less favorably than other kinds of speech. But the vastly overblown claim that the communications medium somehow deserves to be put outside normal legal constraints--because it's so global, or because it's so different—is self-defeating. It substitutes generalities and sentiments for real thinking. The kind of analysis we've seen at this conference—the kind of debate we've had here—is very useful, because we're talking about the specifics of what legal constraints should be allowed. Not whether …

Responsibilities Of Employers Toward Mentally Disabled Persons Under The Americans With Disabilities Act, Karin M. Mika, Denise Wimbiscus

Law Faculty Articles and Essays

This article discusses the standards of the American with Disabilities Act with respect to accommodating mental illness in the workplace. It additionally suggests revising the statue and regulations to achieve this goal.

Diogenes Wanders The Superhighway: A Proposal For Authentication Of Publicly Disseminated Documents On The Internet, Kelly Kunsch Jan 1997

Diogenes Wanders The Superhighway: A Proposal For Authentication Of Publicly Disseminated Documents On The Internet, Kelly Kunsch

Seattle University Law Review

On the national level, there are proposals to make the Internet the primary, and even the exclusive, means of disseminating certain government information. Concurrently, corporations and other private organizations may adopt a similar approach for their reports and other documents. Intertwined with these official and quasi-official documents are innumerable others created by individuals around the world. With so many documents, there is potential for dissemination of false, biased, and even fraudulent information. This is the source of the authentication problem.

Genetics, Iq, Determinism, And Torts: The Example Of Discovery In Lead Exposure Litigation, Jennifer Wriggins Jan 1997

Genetics, Iq, Determinism, And Torts: The Example Of Discovery In Lead Exposure Litigation, Jennifer Wriggins

Faculty Publications

This article discusses a disturbing development in tort litigation in which defendants use deterministic, genetics-based ideas about individuals and their families to undercut and deflect attention from personal injury claims. Lead exposure litigation involving cognitive injuries claimed on behalf of children who have ingested lead paint is the context of this development. The most extreme manifestation to date has been the efforts in several states to compel relatives of lead-exposed children (usually mothers) to have IQ and psychological testing, even though they are not parties to the litigation. Rule 35 of the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure and its state …

Public Perceptions Of Buildings Constructed Of Recycled Materials, Laura Michele Strauss

UNLV Retrospective Theses & Dissertations

The study presented herewith investigated public perceptions of buildings constructed of recycled materials. The three groups surveyed in the area of Las Vegas were the general public, Clark County School District construction management employees, and local architectural firms. Eight attributes of recycled building products were addressed in the survey, namely their availability, aesthetics, cost, maintenance, quality, health risks, life expectancy, and safety. Data collected from returned questionnaires were analyzed using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences software package. Results indicate that: (1) the general public is largely unaware of the use of these products; (2) people in all three …

The nature of the relationships of the domestic and foreign intelligence services to other power structures in Russia today are examined, including an evaluation of its espionage networks within Russia, Eastern Europe, and the "near abroad." Special attention is devoted to an analysis of the Russian foreign intelligence service's recruiting methods and the cases of Russian spies Aldrich Ames, Harold Nicholson, and Earl Pitts. Finally, the thesis examines the Russian intelligence services' resumption of training terrorists, particularly those affiliated with …
