A Preferred Vision For Administering Secondary Schools : A Reflective Essay, Anthony F. Dehl

Graduate Research Papers

The education system in the United States is changing rapidly. The role of teacher and administrators should also change. Opening the school to its community is one of the changes taking place, not just for physical use but also planning of the school's future. Part of this change should include more, and better training for our teachers. As part of this training, teachers need to develop technology skills to share with all students. Communication is an important part of this change as we become a globally competitive workforce. Planning for our future will take a cooperative action from members of …

Biofilms In Dental Unit Waterlines: Ultrastructural And Cytochemical Analysis, J. Barbeau, C. Avezard, E. Faucher, S. Zalzal, A. P. Prévost

Cells and Materials

Dental unit waterlines are heavily colonized by bacteria which contaminate the water used to perform intra-oral, and sometimes invasive, procedures. There is little information on the nature of the biofilm colonizing the flexible plastic tubing used to supply water to the different handpieces. We have therefore undertaken quantitative microbial analysis and ultrastructural studies of these biofilms by direct counting with the epifluorescent filter technique and by transmission and scanning electron microscopy after staining with ruthenium red and periodic acid-thiosemicarbazide-silver proteinate to visualize the composition and the distribution of exopolysaccharides and intracellular polysaccharides. The biofilm was revealed as a non-uniform structure …

Standardization, Compromise, Or Specialization: A Content Analysis Of Magazine Advertisements In America And Taiwan, Yi-Fan Chen Jan 1997

Standardization, Compromise, Or Specialization: A Content Analysis Of Magazine Advertisements In America And Taiwan, Yi-Fan Chen

Theses, Dissertations and Capstones

When researchers studied standardization and specialization of advertising, most of them only focused on comparisons of the cultural influences of the advertisements across the different nations. McCarty (1994) studied the general role in cross-cultural research and international marketing and advertising of several different cultural values, such as individualism versus collectivism: masculinity versus femininity; time orientation, activity orientation and humans’ relationship with nature. Kahle, Beatty and Mager (1994) studied implications of social values for European community communications. Astroff (1994) (1994) studied the language culture use of women in advertising.

Huang (1995) studied the different cultural factors, such as norms and ethics, …

Overnight Accommodation Operation Feasibility Study For The University Club Of Rochester: A Study Of The Potential Market And Its Service Expectations, Karen Boilesen Jan 1997

Overnight Accommodation Operation Feasibility Study For The University Club Of Rochester: A Study Of The Potential Market And Its Service Expectations, Karen Boilesen

Theses

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the feasibility of renovating and profitably operating overnight accommodations at the University Club of Rochester. This was accomplished by developing a comprehensive survey to analyze the overnight accommodation operations of university clubs sharing reciprocal arrangements with the University Club of Rochester. Customer base, occupancy rates, room amenities, club services, and overnight staffing requirements were addressed. The results revealed minimum in-room amenity and club services expectations of a guest from a reciprocal club. Additionally, the number of non-resident club members and the number of guests whose travel purpose was business positively affected occupancy …

Osteoclast Differentiation In Cocultures Of Chondrogenic Cell Line Rcj 3.1c5.18 And Mouse Or Rat Bone Marrow: Dependence On Culture Substrate And Association With Alkaline Phosphatase Positive Marrow Stromal Cells, G. I. Anderson, J. N. M. Heersche Jan 1997

N. M. Heersche

Cells and Materials

We investigated the formation of tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase positive (TRAP+) colonies and multinucleated cells (MNCs) in rat and mouse marrow cultures alone and cocultured with the chondrogenic cell line, RCJ3.1C5.18 on different substrata. In mouse marrow cultured in 35 mm dishes, few TRAP+ MNCs developed, while in rat marrow cultures, many TRAP+ MNCs, which possessed calcitonin receptors and resorbed bone, developed. In both rat and mouse cultures, TRAP+ MNC first appeared at Day 4 and grew in number up to Day 8. When both marrows were cocultured with RC3.1C5.18 cells, TRAP+ colony numbers increased relative to marrow alone. In marrow …
