Creativity Challenge: A Community-Based Approach To Enhancing Creative Action, Robert Domaingue Dec 1997

Creativity Challenge: A Community-Based Approach To Enhancing Creative Action, Robert Domaingue

Journal of Extension

We could all benefit from the wider application of creative action in addressing problems in our communities. Creativity in individuals can be enhanced and harnessed for improving our communities. The Creativity Challenge is one approach for accomplishing this. It provides training and motivation for individuals and teams to develop personal and group creativity and apply those skills to relevant problems at work and in the community. An enjoyable culminating event allows individuals and teams to test their creative abilities while dealing with significant social problems.

Faculty Publications

The recently collected Greenland Ice Sheet Project 2 (GISP2) and Greenland Ice Core Project ice cores from Summit, Greenland, provide lengthy and highly resolved records of the deposition of both the aerosol (H2SO4) and silicate (tephra) components of past volcanism. Both types of data are very beneficial in developing the hemispheric to global chronology of explosive volcanism and evaluating the entire volcanism‐climate system. The continuous time series of volcanic SO42− for the last 110,000 years show a strong relationship between periods of increased volcanism and periods of climatic change. The greatest number of volcanic SO42− signals, many of very high …

The Effect Of Solution Composition On The Corrosion Behavior Of Electrodeposited Zinc Powder, Qingwen Li, Qin Yang, Xi Xia Nov 1997

The Effect Of Solution Composition On The Corrosion Behavior Of Electrodeposited Zinc Powder, Qingwen Li, Qin Yang, Xi Xia

Journal of Electrochemistry

Zinc powder as a widely anode material can be electrowon from ZnCl2 or ZnO+KOH media. The properties of zinc powder are likely to be modified with electrolytic conditions such as the composition of bath solution, electrolysis manner, current density and additives etc.. In this paper, we have discussed the effect of the compositions of bath solution on the microstructure and corrosion resistance of zinc powder.

Academic Freedom, Promotion, Reappointment, Tenure And The Administrative Use Of Student Evaluation Of Faculty (Sef): (Part Iv) Analysis And Implications Of Views From The Court In Relation To Academic Freedom, Standards, And Quality Instruction, Robert E. Haskell

Education Policy Analysis Archives (EPAA)

In three previous papers, it was noted that while a controversial history of research on the reliability and validity of student evaluation of faculty (SEF) exists, it has not been typically viewed as an infringement on academic freedom. As a consequence, legal aspects of SEF are neither readily apparent, nor available. Moreover, SEF has not been generally seen as an infringement on, and detriment to, academic standards and quality instruction. The article is a review of SEF legal rulings analyzed in terms of their implications for academic freedom and quality of instruction in higher education.

Competitive Interactions Among Symbiotic Fungi Of The Southern Pine Beetle, Kier D. Klepzig, Richard T. Wilkens Nov 1997

Competitive Interactions Among Symbiotic Fungi Of The Southern Pine Beetle, Kier D. Klepzig, Richard T. Wilkens

Dartmouth Scholarship

The southern pine beetle, a damaging pest of conifers, is intimately linked to three symbiotic fungi. Two fungi, Ceratocystiopsis ranaculosus and Entomocorticium sp. A, are transported within specialized structures (mycangia) in the beetle exoskeleton and are mutualists of the beetle. A third fungus, Ophiostoma minus, is transported externally on the beetle exoskeleton (phoretically) and is an antagonist of the beetle. This study examined competitive interactions among these three fungi. The results of de Wit replacement series and primary and secondary resource capture assays with these fungi provide strong evidence for differential competition between the phoretic and mycangial fungi. O. minus …
