Development Of Constructed Wetlands For The Reuse Of Wastewat R In Semi-Arid Regions, Byung J. Kim, Sherwood C. Reed, Thomas Andrew, Patrick D. Sullivan, U.S. Army Corps Of Engineers

All U.S. Government Documents (Utah Regional Depository)

Hill Air Force Base (AFB), UT, is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the Utah Test and Training Range (UTTR). The range contains waste-water treatment and disposal facilities that consist of two infiltration ponds operated in parallel, followed by an emergency overflow basin that safeguards against unexpectedly high flow rates. A previous evaluation concluded that the existing facilities should be replaced, at a relatively high cost and with no possibility for beneficial water reuse. The U.S. Army Construction Engineering Research Laboratories (USACERL) was requested to further evaluate the system and to identify cost-effective, feasible alternatives. USACERL researchers identified a …

The Dade County Juvenile Curfew Ordinance: A Retrospective Examination Of The Ordinance And The Law That Supports Its Constitutionality, David L. Levy

St. Thomas Law Review

This article examines the constitutionality of a nocturnal juvenile curfew ordinance enacted in January of 1994 by the Dade County Commission. The ordinance was created in response to the "mounting crisis" of juvenile crime and victimization which plague Dade County, Florida. The Dade County Juvenile Curfew Ordinance ("Dade Curfew Ordinance" or "Ordinance") makes it unlawful for any person under the age of seventeen to be in either a "public" or "semi-public" area during curfew hours, unless exempted by one of the exceptions listed in the Ordinance. The Dade Curfew Ordinance was in effect for approximately one month during which roughly …

Investigation Of The Statistical And Spatial Distributions Of Mercury Contaminated Fish, Surface Waters And Soils In Arkansas, H. D. Scott, J. M. Mckimmey

Arkansas Water Resources Center Technical Reports

Mercury (Hg) contamination of fish is a widespread problem throughout much of the United States and the world (Louisiana WWW page, 1997). Levels ofHg in fish suffic1ent to exceed the FDA action level of 1 mg kg-1 have been found in many water bodies, including some in Arkansas and Louisiana. As a result of the serious public health ramifications for developing fetuses and for people that subsist on native fish, fish consumption advisories due to Hg contamination have been issued in 29 states. Contamination of surface water bodies by Hg results from deforestation, forest fires, fossil fuels, mining, natural emissions …

Sexual Attraction And Religious Therapists: Survey Findings And Implications, Paul W. Case, Mark R. Mcminn, Katheryn Rhoads Meek Jan 1997

Sexual Attraction And Religious Therapists: Survey Findings And Implications, Paul W. Case, Mark R. Mcminn, Katheryn Rhoads Meek

Faculty Publications - Doctor of Psychology (PsyD) Program

Five hundred Christian therapists returned surveys describing their beliefs and behaviors regarding sexual attraction and sexual expression toward their clients. Four groups of Christian therapists responded: psychologists, licensed therapists, nonlicensed therapists, and lay counselors. Christian therapists' responses are compared with those from a similar survey of 456 psychologists selected without regard to religious values. Most groups of Christian therapists are less likely than previously surveyed psychologists to report sexual attraction and fantasy toward clients, but the differences between Christian psychologists and other psychologists are minimal. Religious factors that may increase the stigma of admitting sexual attraction are considered.

Thought disorder and communication patterns during an interactional task were examined in families of children with schizophrenia-spectrum disorders (schizophrenia and schizo typal personality disorder), depressed children, and normal controls. Children with schizophreniaspectrum disorders showed significantly more thought disorder than their normal peers; levels of thought disorder among depressed children fell between those observed in the other two groups but did not differ significantly from either of them. Similarly, mothers of children with schizophrenia-spectrum disorders showed more thought disorder than mothers of normal control children but did not differ from mothers of depressed children. Children with schizotypal personality disorder did not …

Detection Of Bovine Immunodeficiency Virus Antibodies In Cattle By Western Blot Assay With Recombinant Gag Protein, Shucheng Zhang, Wenzhi Xue, Charles Wood, Qi-Min Chen, Sanjay Capil, Harish Minocha Jan 1997

Detection Of Bovine Immunodeficiency Virus Antibodies In Cattle By Western Blot Assay With Recombinant Gag Protein, Shucheng Zhang, Wenzhi Xue, Charles Wood, Qi-Min Chen, Sanjay Capil, Harish Minocha

Nebraska Center for Virology: Faculty Publications

A western blot assay using purified recombinant bovine immunodeficiency virus gag protein has been developed for detection of bovine immunodeficiency virus antibodies in bovine serum samples. The test was standardized with known bovine immunodeficiency virus positive and negative bovine serum samples and the monoclonal antibody to gag protein. Both naturally and experimentally infected cattle sera demonstrated positive test results. The result of western blot assay was compared with polymerase chain reaction test results in 134 blood samples collected from Kansas. Twenty-six samples tested positive for bovine immunodeficiency virus DNA with polymerase chain reaction (18.7%) and 25 were positive for the …

An Electromyographic Study Of Trunk Muscle Activity During Exercise On The Fitness Plus Rotary Torso Unit, Melanie F. Rystedt Jan 1997

An Electromyographic Study Of Trunk Muscle Activity During Exercise On The Fitness Plus Rotary Torso Unit, Melanie F. Rystedt

Physical Therapy Scholarly Projects

Strengthening of trunk musculature is an important part of prevention and treatment for low back pain. Various machines have been developed to target the trunk muscles. The Rotary Torso Unit is being marketed by Fitness Plus Inc, however, no research has been conducted to validate the claims made by the manufacturer. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to measure and describe the muscle activity elicited while exercising on the Fitness Plus Rotary Torso Unit. For this study we used 14 healthy male subjects between the ages of22 and 40 and with no prior history of back pathology.

The results …
