Enhancing Compliance With Allergic Rhinitis Therapy, Beth Wofford, Deborah S. Zeitlin

Scholarship and Professional Work – COPHS

Allergic rhinitis is one of the most common chronic conditions in the US, surpassing even heart disease. Over $1 billion is spent annually for over-the-counter (OTC) and prescription medications. In addition, allergic rhinitis causes an estimated annual loss of $639 million related to lost work days and diminished work performance.

If not effectively treated, allergic rhinitis may lead to potential complications such as otitis media, sinusitis, facial and dental abnormalities, hearing loss, poor speech development, and recurrent upper respiratory tract infections. Ineffective treatment often the result of intentional or unintentional noncompliance and inadequate patient education. Therefore, it is imperative that …

Linking Child Labour With International Trade: Recent Developments And Their Implications, Rupa Chanda

Working Papers

In recent years, child labour has become increasingly linked to important global economic forces such as international trade. In the context of unilateral, regional, and multilateral trade policies, there have been discussions about subjecting products made with child labour to trade penalties and sanctions. These proposals have generated much controversy and concern. This paper aims at providing a comprehensive understanding of recent developments in the trade and child labour linkage within the broader framework of the labour standards and trade debate. It also assesses the validity and effectiveness of using trade-related measures to address the problem of child labour by …

A Carboxy-Terminal Processing Protease Gene Is Located Immediately Upstream Of The Invasion-Associated Locus From Bartonella Bacilliformis, Samuel J. Mitchell, Michael F. Minnick

Biological Sciences Faculty Publications

A gene with homology to those encoding an unusual class of C-terminal processing proteases that flanks the invasion-associated locus ialAB of Bartonella bacilliformis has been identified. The 1302 bp gene, termed ctpA, is located immediately upstream of the ialA gene and encodes a predicted nascent product of 434 amino acids, producing a mature protein of 411 amino acid residues. The Bartonella CtpA appears to undergo autolysis in vitro, producing multiple products of 43-46 kDa, and a second group of products of 36-37 kDa. Production of CtpA in vivo gives a single product of 41.8 kDa. In addition to a computer-predicted …

Image Analysis And Rating Of Ink Jet Printing, Wendy S. Woodbury Apr 1997

Image Analysis And Rating Of Ink Jet Printing, Wendy S. Woodbury

Paper Engineering Senior Theses

Correlation between image analysis measurements and visual ranking of ink jet printing was established. Human rating was determined by the use of an all-pair comparison. A camera driven image analysis system and NIH image analysis software with a scanner was used to analyze printed samples. Three sets of printed samples were evaluated for print density. and single dot attributes.

Analyzing the mean gray scale value (GSV) as a tool for evaluating ink jet print quality is limited. Large differences between samples will contribute to the perception of quality, but small differences are overruled by other factors.

Using the standard deviation …
