Personality Types Of Registered Nurses Employed In A Rural Community Hospital, Tina Snodgrass Dec 1997

Personality Types Of Registered Nurses Employed In A Rural Community Hospital, Tina Snodgrass

Masters Theses & Specialist Projects

The purpose of this study was to identify the personality types of registered nurses in a rural community. An extensive literature review revealed that no studies, utilizing the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) to identify personality types, had been conducted with rural nurses. Jung's Psychological Type Theory was the theoretical framework for the study. The MBTI operationalizes Jung's theory and was utilized to determine the most frequently occurring personality types of the nurses. A descriptive study was conducted at a 68 bed acute care hospital. The sample consisted of 40 experienced registered nurses working in staff positions within the hospital. Sensing, …

Commercial And Banking Law, Robert A. Weber Jr. Dec 1997

Commercial And Banking Law, Robert A. Weber Jr.

Mercer Law Review

Last year's article limited its coverage to cases interpreting provisions of Georgia's Commercial Code. Although the courts have provided ample material to again dedicate the entire survey to that topic, to do so would ignore other substantive bodies of law that have had a significant impact on a commercial law practice. Therefore, in addition to a review of the standard Commercial Code topics (sales, negotiable instruments and bank collections, and secured transactions), this year's survey has endeavored to summarize case law and legislative enactments within the past year in the following categories: banking and finance, consumer protection, contracts of employment, …

Children, Storybooks And Computers, Susan Talley, David F. Lancy, Thomas R. Lee

Reading Horizons: A Journal of Literacy and Language Arts

This study was designed to test the use of CD-ROM storybook programs' effects on preschool aged children's emergent literacy. 73 four-year-old children, divided into three study groups (experimental, control and well-read-to control) all enrolled in a Head Start program were given the opportunity to use CD-ROM storybooks during their free-choice time for approximately eight weeks. At the end of the trial period, the experimental group was compared with the control group and with their well-read-to peers. Results indicated that CD-ROM storybook programs may have a significant effect on the emergent reading skills of those children who are not as well-read-to …

Nebraska Center for Virology: Faculty Publications

Like other arteriviruses, porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus (PRRSV) is shed in semen, a feature that is critical for the venereal transmission of this group of viruses. In spite of its epidemiological importance, little is known of the association of PRRSV or other arteriviruses with gonadal tissues. We experimentally infected a group of boars with PRRSV 12068-96, a virulent field strain. By combined use of in situ hybridization and immunohistochemistry, we detected infection by PRRSV in the testes of these boars. The PRRSV testicular replication in testis centers on two types of cells: (i) epithelial germ cells of the …

Literacy Lessons From The Childhoods Of Authors, Marcia Baghban Dec 1997

Literacy Lessons From The Childhoods Of Authors, Marcia Baghban

Reading Horizons: A Journal of Literacy and Language Arts

The retrospectives of authors' childhoods can provide courageous portraits for children. Their examples demonstrate how reading and writing helped these professionals not only survive illness, loneliness, and rejection, but also forge meaningful lives. Children need to hear their stories, and so do adults. This piece reviews the role that literacy played in the childhoods of Eudora Welty, Madeleine L'Engle, and Jack London, and contrasts aspects of their childhoods with aspects of contemporary childhoods. The contrast sounds a clarion call to today's adults to assume greater responsibility for how children spend their time.

Domestic Relations, Barry B. Mcgough Dec 1997

Domestic Relations, Barry B. Mcgough

Mercer Law Review

The survey year produced a wide array of appellate opinions with no discernible area of focus. Of particular interest were decisions holding that the relocation of a custodial parent is not alone grounds to change custody and that notice of trial by publication alone contravenes the due process rights of a pro se litigant in a divorce action in which custody of minor children is at issue. A resident can sue for divorce and an award of Georgia property even though the nonresident spouse has never been in the state. However, a resident cannot enforce a foreign divorce decree when …
