The Frat Volume 95 Number 01 October, November & December 1997, The National Fraternal Society Of The Deaf (Nfsd)
1991-2000
The Frat was the official member publication of the National Fraternal Society of the Deaf (NFSD). First established in 1902, the publication ran for just over a century, until its closure in 2006.---NFSD was an insurance business established in 1901. Its purposes were to provide insurance to mainly Deaf members, to serve as an advocate for the Deaf, and to provide community service and recreational opportunities through divisional activities. The existing insurance coverage was transferred to the Catholic Order of Foresters in 2005. The NFSD disbanded in 2007.---The Frat's main purpose was to keep members apprised of the activities of …

Alterations In Calcium Homeostasis And The Insulin-Like Growth Factor Signaling Pathway Induced By Carcinogenic Polycyclic And Halogenated Aromatic Hydrocarbons In Human Mammary Epithelial Cells, Stacey L. Tannheimer
Pharmaceutical Sciences ETDs
Breast cancer is a major health concern for women, with only a small percent of the risk factors currently identified. It has been estimated that environmental factors may contribute to up to 80% of breast cancer cases. Many environmental carcinogens, such as polycyclic and halogenated aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs and HAHs), are proven mammary carcinogens in animal models. Therefore, these studies were conducted to elucidate potential roles of PAHs and HAHs in alterations in known signaling pathways in human mammary epithelial cells (HMEC). Carcinogenic PAHs have previously been shown to produce sustained alterations in the calcium (Ca2') homeostasis of lymphocytes Therefore, …

A Comparative Study Of Nursing And Non-Nursing Majors Knowledge And Attitudes Toward Hiv And Aids At The Sophomore And Senior Level, Diana R. Lubandi
Electronic Dissertations and Theses
The primary purpose of this study was to examine the impact of a baccalaureate nursing program on the knowledge and attitudes of United States nursing students towards HIV/AIDS. Mathematics and engineering majors were used as a comparison group and to control the threats to internal validity of history and maturation. Data for this study was obtained using an AIDS Knowledge Scale and an AIDS Attitude Scale in the form of questionnaires. A convenience sample of 103 students comprised of 30 sophomore nursing students, 34 senior nursing students, 16 sophomore Non nursing students and 23 senior non-nursing students was utilized. The …
Policy Priorities Of The Epa: A Proposed Agenda And Budget Initiative, Kendra E. Perkins
Policy Priorities Of The Epa: A Proposed Agenda And Budget Initiative, Kendra E. Perkins
Electronic Dissertations and Theses
This paper summarizes priorities for the Environmental Protection Agency's federal environmental policy agenda. Ten issue areas are investigated, and major issues, problems and proposals are addressed for each of the areas. The proposed policies range in scope from recommendations for research, new legislation and amending existing legislation to new regulatory approaches and changes in existing regulations. Each policy recommendation identifies environmental policy measures that deserve priority status and a rationale for each proposal. These measures include changes to existing policy, reaffirmation of important existing policies, and the elimination of unwise policies. The policy recommendations also state whether the proposals will …

The Information Superhighway: Trolls At The Tollgate, Charles M. Oliver
The Information Superhighway: Trolls At The Tollgate, Charles M. Oliver
Federal Communications Law Journal
Prior to the passage of the 1996 Telecommunications Act, policymakers sought funding and regulatory mechanisms capable of fulfilling the vision of an Information Superhighway. Vice President Gore, the Clinton Administration's point person on the issue, initially proposed assessing fees on other sectors of the telecommunications industry to fund construction. Meanwhile, conservatives asserted that deregulation of the industry would achieve the desired result. A compromise ultimately was reached: the 1996 Act requires local exchange carriers to unbundle their networks and provide access at a reasonable cost to competitors. The use of regulatory formulas in lieu of taxes to subsidize a national …

CBN Statistical Bulletin
Financial data is compiled from documents like balance sheets and financial statements, which are designed for legal and administrative purposes rather than economic analysis. The Financial Statistics Office compiles the analytical CBN balance sheet without major reclassifications or rearrangements. However, due to problems with imprecise definitions, improper classification, inadequate sectorization, inaccuracies, irregular valuation procedures, and errors in data compilation, major revisions were made. The Computer Services Department generates summary and detailed analytical balance sheets based on the end-month BANKOS 302 of the CBN, Lagos branch. The consolidation of accounts of monetary authorities and deposit money banks produces monetary survey accounts. …

Mutations In Yeast Proliferating Cell Nuclear Antigen Define Distinct Sites For Interaction With Dna Polymerase Δ And Dna Polymerase Ε, Joel C. Eissenberg, L. Rao Ayyagari, Xavier V. Gomes, Peter M.J. Burgers
Faculty Scholarship
The importance of the interdomain connector loop and of the carboxy-terminal domain of Saccharomyces cerevisiae proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA) for functional interaction with DNA polymerases delta (Poldelta) and epsilon (Pol epsilon) was investigated by site-directed mutagenesis. Two alleles, pol30-79 (IL126,128AA) in the interdomain connector loop and pol30-90 (PK252,253AA) near the carboxy terminus, caused growth defects and elevated sensitivity to DNA-damaging agents. These two mutants also had elevated rates of spontaneous mutations. The mutator phenotype of pol30-90 was due to partially defective mismatch repair in the mutant. In vitro, the mutant PCNAs showed defects in DNA synthesis. Interestingly, the pol30-79 …
Autonomy, Responsibility And Human Maturity, Bruce M. Taylor
Autonomy, Responsibility And Human Maturity, Bruce M. Taylor
University of Dayton Review
The Humanities Base theme of Autonomy and Responsibility, as we have seen tonight and throughout the Symposium presentations, is conceptually slippery and offers challenges in interpretation for both faculty and students. Dr. Gene August mentioned in his keynote address that the terms are usually presented as if in tension with one another: "Autonomy versus Responsibility." History records numerous examples of persons who, when faced with momentous opportunities for choice, acted with responsibility as they saw it. Dr. August, however, introduces a different interpretation of the relationship between autonomy and responsibility. In his announcement of the showing of our film for …

The Relationship Between Childhood Aggression And Impulsiveness, Mary Gail Glover
The Relationship Between Childhood Aggression And Impulsiveness, Mary Gail Glover
Graduate Theses
Previous research on the relationship between children's levels of aggression and impulsivity have been inconclusive. Studies of each of these behaviors independently have shown that they are correlated with many of the same factors. However, no studies have been found in which aggression and impulsivity have correlated specifically with each other. The purpose of the present study was to determine if a relationship exists between aggression and impulsivity in children. The participants of this study consisted of 115 children who had been tested at a center for behavioral analysis to determine diagnoses of Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder. They had been referred for …
