FOCUS on Boise State
The current crop of college freshmen will be the graduates of the Class of 2001. And like all11cwcomers to the world of higher education, they face a variety of issues as they embark on adulthood. In this issue of FOCUS, we look at some of the differences- and similarities- between the students of the new millennium and older generations. BSU freshmen, from left, Amanda Jones, Horseshoe Bend; Albert Arredondo, Wilder; and Jenny Corn, Twin Falls. Chuck Scheer/John Kelly cover photo.

The Interaction Between Cytoplasmic Dynein And Dynactin Is Required For Fast Axonal Transport, Clare M. Waterman-Storer, Sher B. Karki, Sergei A. Kuznetsov, Joel S. Tabb, Dieter G. Weiss, George M. Langford, Erika L. F. Holzbaur
Dartmouth Scholarship
Fast axonal transport is characterized by the bidirectional, microtubule-based movement of membranous organelles. Cytoplasmic dynein is necessary but not sufficient for retrograde transport directed from the synapse to the cell body. Dynactin is a heteromultimeric protein complex, enriched in neurons, that binds to both microtubules and cytoplasmic dynein. To determine whether dynactin is required for retrograde axonal transport, we examined the effects of anti-dynactin antibodies on organelle transport in extruded axoplasm. Treatment of axoplasm with antibodies to the p150(Glued) subunit of dynactin resulted in a significant decrease in the velocity of microtubule-based organelle transport, with many organelles bound along microtubules. …

Corporate Governance In India: Disciplining The Dominant Shareholde, Jayanth Rama Varma
Corporate Governance In India: Disciplining The Dominant Shareholde, Jayanth Rama Varma
IIMB Management Review
Corporate governance problems in India are very different from that of, say, the US or the UK where the issue is essentially that of disciplining the management who have ceased to be effectively accountable to their owners. The problem of the Indian corporate sector is that of disciplining the dominant shareholder and protecting the minority shareholders. The role of two such disciplining forces - the regulator and the capital market has been discussed.

In Search Of Universality, Equity, Comprehensivenessand Competition: Health Care Reform And Managedcompetition In Israel, Carmel Shalev, David Chinitz
Dalhousie Law Journal
Israel's ongoing health reform provides lessons regarding attempts to combine universal coverage under national health insurance with a version of managed competition. Based on principles of 'justice, equality and mutual aid," Israel's National Health Insurance Law, 1994 guarantees access to a broad basket of basic services to be provided by four competing sick funds, and the availability of resources adequate to finance the basket. The new rights of citizens to universal coverage and to move freely among sick funds constituted a major policy breakthrough. However, successive amendments to the Law reflect continuing controversy over the amount of resources required to …
