A Descriptive Case Study Of An Alternative Education Program For Credit-Deficient Youth: The Graduate Academy, Virginia M. Wallace Jan 1997

A Descriptive Case Study Of An Alternative Education Program For Credit-Deficient Youth: The Graduate Academy, Virginia M. Wallace

Theses and Dissertations

The purpose of the study was to analyze and evaluate the development and implementation of an experimental, school-within-a-school alternative environment, the Graduate Academy, after the first year of implementation. The study addressed those factors which set the Graduate Academy apart from the traditional school setting including the intake process, recruitment of teachers, selection of curriculum, staff development, incentives, ecological factors, parent involvement, and school-business partnerships. The subjects of the study were high school students who shared credit deficiency as their common risk factor. The methodology used was the descriptive narrative case study chosen because of the complexity of the alternative …

Modern German Doctors: A Failure Of Professionalization?, Charles E. Mcclelland Jan 1997

Modern German Doctors: A Failure Of Professionalization?, Charles E. Mcclelland

History Faculty Publications

Even if we can assume that the vast majority of German physicians had nothing to do with medical "perversions," there must have been reasons why so many went along with other aims of the Nazi regime, at least initially. Were they more susceptible than other professional groups? If so, is there indeed something peculiar about their experience of professionalization?

Women And Leadership Working Paper Series: Paper No. 12: Career Barriers And The Older Woman Manager, Leonie V. Still, Wendy Timms Jan 1997

Women And Leadership Working Paper Series: Paper No. 12: Career Barriers And The Older Woman Manager, Leonie V. Still, Wendy Timms

Research outputs pre 2011

The removal of the age retirement barrier has led to expectations that more and more older workers will remain in the workforce past the usual retirement age of 65. Women make up an increasing proportion of older workers, and Patrickson and Hartmann ( 1996) have shown that Australian women are planning not to retire in order to improve their retirement income.

An important section of the older workers group are the managerial and professional women, aged in their 50s, who are part of the first generation of women to have long-term careers like men i.e. full-time careers extending over 25 …

Homework And Telework: A Guide To Best Practice In Human Resource Management, Peter Standen, Maryam Omari Jan 1997

Homework And Telework: A Guide To Best Practice In Human Resource Management, Peter Standen, Maryam Omari

Research outputs pre 2011

In Australia today there is widespread interest in homeworking and teleworking as flexible work options with significant advantages to both employers and employees. In the research behind this guide we surveyed 500 Australian organisations, finding employer interest in these advantages, along with uncertainty about how to implement homeworking, and some worries about potential drawbacks. Significantly, those organisations that had implemented homeworking reported positive outcomes. In an interview study, homeworkers themselves reported improved work performance, and were appreciative of the flexibility. This guide shows how to implement homework and telework to achieve such outcomes while avoiding the problems that concern managers.

Mrs Cowan's Clock: The Location Of The Edith Cowan Memorial, Paul Wycherley

Research outputs pre 2011

When the septuagenarian Mrs Edith Dircksey Cowan (nee Brown) OBE, J P died on 9 June 1932 few denied, at least overtly, that she deserved an appropriate memorial. Edith Cowan is remembered today as the first woman to be elected to an Australian Parliament as the Member for West Perth in the Western Australian Legislative Assembly for three years from 12 March 1921 until defeated in the 1924 election...

Leadership In Community Health Organizations, Stephanie C. Eken Jan 1997

Leadership In Community Health Organizations, Stephanie C. Eken

Honors Theses

The purpose of this project was to analyze the characteristics and motivations of leaders in community health organizations and determine if they were initiators and collaborators in bringing about real change in providing health care for their own neighborhoods. To date, there has been little research concerning leadership in the medical field and even less addressing leadership in community health organizations. Yet, every day there are "ordinary" people making significant changes in the lives of Virginians through community-based health promotion. Their efforts and accomplishments in community health care can provide new insight into leadership in an evolving context and in …
