A Portable Photovoltaic Water Aeration System, Florida Solar Energy Center, William Young Dec 1997

A Portable Photovoltaic Water Aeration System, Florida Solar Energy Center, William Young

FSEC Energy Research Center®

Water aeration is a method to improve the water quality in a lake by adding oxygen to the water. Because water aeration systems are often located in remote locations, photovoltaics are ideal for powering these systems. This paper describes a water aeration system powered by photovoltaics that is used in Florida. The portable nature of this system permits the owner to conveniently relocate the system and aerate bodies of water as needed.

Statistical Continuum Theory For Inelastic Behavior Of A Two-Phase Medium, Brent L. Adams, H. Garmestani, S. Lin Dec 1997

Statistical Continuum Theory For Inelastic Behavior Of A Two-Phase Medium, Brent L. Adams, H. Garmestani, S. Lin

Faculty Publications

This work was supported in part (B.L. Adams) by the MRSEC Program of the National Science Foundation under Award no. DMR-9632556. Further support was provided by the Center for Materials Research and Technology (MARTECH at FSU) and Center for Nonlinear and Nonequilibrium Sciences (CENNAS at FAMU). A statistical contiuum mechanics formulation is presented to predict the inelastic behavior of a medium consisting of two isotropic phases. The phase distribution and morphology are represented by a two-point probability function. The isotropic behavior of the single phase medium is represented by a power law relationship between the strain rate and the resolved …

Recreational Zoning: Concept Used In Inappropriate Context Raises Troubling Issues, John R. Nolon Dec 1997

Recreational Zoning: Concept Used In Inappropriate Context Raises Troubling Issues, John R. Nolon

Elisabeth Haub School of Law Faculty Publications

The Second Department Appellate Division’s holding in Bonnie Briar Syndicate, Inc. v. Mamaroneck upheld local rezoning in Mamaroneck, New York, from residential to recreational use despite legal challenges that the zoning change constituted an unreasonable use of municipal police power as well as a regulatory taking. The case cited several New York precedents. Each held that so long as rezoning is in accordance with the local comprehensive plan, the zoning shall be held constitutional. However, concerns linger among private residents and local municipalities regarding recreational rezoning projects, which despite providing significant benefits for the community, must be justified by a …

Attention Deficit Disorder : A Multimodal Treatment For A Multifaceted Disorder, Sara F. Freeman

USF St. Petersburg campus Honors Program Theses (Undergraduate)

Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) afflicts many children, as well as adults, and can be damaging to a child's well being. As a result, physicians and researchers have invested a great deal of time in investigation [of] the reasons so many children suffer from the disorder. Additionally, searching for a cure has consumed much time and effort. While this goal has not yet been accomplished, researchers have made great advances towards alleviating the symptoms of the disorder. Recently, research has focused on multimodal therapy as an option. Consequently, the child with ADD has several treatments, or combination of treatments, from which …
