Patent Invalidity And The Seventh Amendment: Is The Jury Out?, Barry S. Wilson
Patent Invalidity And The Seventh Amendment: Is The Jury Out?, Barry S. Wilson
San Diego Law Review
Patent invalidity is a defense commonly raised in actions for patent infringement when the defending alleged infringing party asserts the patent either is invalid or he or she is not liable for infringement. Today, a jury hears more than 50 percent of patent cases. This comment examines the constitutional issues related to the Seventh Amendment right to a jury trial, in the context of patent invalidity. The author argues that patent invalidity cases should not be afforded a jury trial because the action is arguably equitable rather than legal in nature, and the question of patent invalidity should be considered …
Nonlinear Optimal Control Of A Hydraulically Actuated Positioning System, Timothy Mclain, Randal W. Beard
Nonlinear Optimal Control Of A Hydraulically Actuated Positioning System, Timothy Mclain, Randal W. Beard
Faculty Publications
In this paper, the nonlinear optimal control problem is formulated for the position control of an electrohydraulic servo system. The optimal control is given by the solution to the Hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman equation, which in this case cannot be solved explicitly. An alternative method, based upon successive Galerkin approximation, is used to obtain an approximate optimal solution. Preliminary simulation results, demonstrating the application of this approach to the position control of a hydraulically actuated device, are presented.

Works on Radiation Effects: 1990-2020
Selected material about the healthcare system/status in Russia circa 1997. It looks like a series of pieces from a healthcare publication. Clearly this was a part of our trying to assess the opportunity to further our work with Dennis Sokol of the American Medical Centers that Ambassador Strauss connected us with as well as the post-Chernobyl opportunities for our colleagues in the Former USSR. See more at Armin Weinberg, PhD Papers and its finding aid.

Model‐Validated Parametrization For Air‐Sea Gas Transfer In The North Indian Ocean, Meredith A. Haines, Mark E. Luther, Rana A. Fine
Marine Science Faculty Publications
Mixed‐layer CFC‐11 saturations measured in the northwestern Indian Ocean during the 1995 World Ocean Circulation Experiment (WOCE) along I7N are compared to those from a numerical model using three alternative parametrizations for the air‐sea flux of CFC‐11. The Wanninkhof [1992] gas flux parametrization for climatological winds gives gas saturations which agree best with those observed. The observed and model mixed‐layers are in equilibrium with the contemporary atmosphere to within 1% (the experimental error) in the summer of 1995, excluding cold coastal upwelled waters. When the model is used to extend the space and time scales of the observations in the …
