Cross-National Empirical Generalization Of A Supplier Selection And Usage Model For Foreign Exchange Services, D. Bowman, J. U. Farley, D. C. Schmittlein

This paper tests generalizations across four countries of an industrial marketing model applied to foreign exchange services which banks sell to large corporations. The process by which customers elicit bids from the marketplace, evaluate suppliers, and award business is used in a two-step framework typical for industrial markets: (1) factors important to winning and/or retaining any business (supplier selection) in a context of multiple suppliers; and (2) factors important to growing business volume of a particular supplier (supplier usage).

To date no studies have considered enjoyment in Dancesport. Scanlan, Stein and Ravizza, (1989a, 1989b & 1991) have extensively studied enjoyment and recommended further studies be conducted in individual sports. Past research has tended to identity enjoyment as a one off momentary experience termed 'peak performance' (Cohn, 1991) and 'flow' (Csikszentmihalyi, 1975; Kimiecik & Stein, 1992). Many thousands of people participate in Dancesport, the competitive arm of ballroom dancing, both nationally and internationally. This thesis examines community radio in Western Australia and its relationship to "the public sphere". The public sphere is that field in which private. persons interact with other private. persons and in so doing construct a 11public". Public opinion is formed through this interaction in the public sphere. The media provide a major part of that interaction. Moreover, the media determine which voices are privileged within the communicative sphere. Drawing from Jurgen Habennas I explore theories of the public sphere arguing that community radio constructs a new form of public sphere in contemporary culture. Methods of prevention of health problems are key to providing the optimal medical care. Falling has been reported as the most prevalent means of injury in older people. One third of all seniors living in the community and one half of those residing in nursing homes fall each year. Factors of social class, race, gender, and sexuality are important to any understanding of the social processes of art. Often, art educators discuss these factors in abstract terms, thereby confining discussion in art education to a set of identifiable variables constructed as static, universal, and homogeneous. The particularities of living and working in educational spaces structured along racist, classist, sexist, and homophobic lines remain largely unexplored. BACKGROUND: The history of the present illness (HPI) is examined as a narrative communication that has the potential to be therapeutic.

METHODS: The general principles that influence the therapeutic potential of the HPI are induced from participant observation of personal experience and natural observations of conventional social interaction. These principles are corroborated by evidence from cross-cultural healing practices, clinical experience, and experimental psychology.

RESULTS: To facilitate a therapeutic HPI, the clinician should convey a sense of safety, sensitivity, affective competence, and cognitive competence. Furthermore, the effective clinician joins the patient in coprocessing the illness experience.

This thesis draws critically upon the sociology of Pierre Bourdieu to develop a theory of the social location of widows. The thesis presents widowhood as a set of objective social relations regulated by the objective structures of marriage, gender and death. In the course of the discussion a critical analysis of Bourdieu's theorization of gender is advanced. The potential of Bourdieu's work for feminist theory is identified, particularly in his explanation of the mechanism of gender relations, however, the analysis also demonstrates that the phallocentric presuppositions embedded within Bourdieu's theorization of gender have to be addressed before the theory's potential …

Tolerance Of Eastern Gamagrass To Excess Aluminum In Acid Soil And Nutrient Solution, C. D. Foy

Eastern gamagrass, Tripsacum dactyloides L., has been reported to tolerate a wide variety of soil conditions, including drought, flooding, and acidity, but its specific tolerance to aluminum (Al) has not been tested. One strain of this species, PMK Select Lot 94 SFG-1, was tested for its tolerance to excess Al in an acid, Al-toxic Tatum subsoil (clayey, mixed, thermic, Typic Hapludult) and in nutrient solutions containing Al. Roots were able to penetrate unfertilized Tatum subsoil at pH levels as low as 4.1-4.2 (1:1 soil-water), at Al saturations of 64 to 77% of CEC, and to tolerate Al concentrations in nutrient …

This research project is divided into two studies. Study 1 considers the proposition that where the challenging behaviours of learning disabled people are sensitive to social reinforcement, the responses of unit staff may be counter-habilitative. This was investigated using a questionnaire-based self-report study involving 43 unit staff. The questionnaires covered staff emotional reactions to, attributions for and responses to challenging behaviours. In addition key aspects of the staff sub-culture were considered. Results confirmed the possible counter-habilitative nature of staff responses. These responses appeared to be influenced by both contingency effects related to high levels of stress and counter -habilitative beliefs …

Morphological plasticity of astrocytes has been hypothesized as vital to ongoing plasticity in the adult central nervous system. However, it has yet to be demonstrated directly that astrocytes are capable of gross morphological changes under non-pathological circumstances in the adult nervous system. In our studies, we have investigated this issue in the glial limitans associated with a well-known model of neuronal plasticity, the hypothalamic supraoptic nucleus. The activity of the neuroendocrine cells comprising this region was stimulated in rats by substitution of 2% saline for drinking water for 2 or 9 days. Iowa requires documentation of qualitatively differentiated curriculum for identified talented and gifted students by schools using allowable growth funding. In response to this directive, a local special education Individual Education Plan (IEP) documentation format was modified to a Personal Education Plan (PEP) format for gifted learners.

Construction and refinement of the format continued over a seven year period. The use of the familiar IEP process seemed to afford credibility and was readily accepted by staff, parents, and administration. The objective of this research was to determine if the use of Simplified English (SE) improved task comprehension of non-native English speaking aviation maintenance technician students in a non-English speaking environment. A background questionnaire, one test, and four controlled language instruments were administered to each subject. The test, Accuracy Level Test (ALT) by Ronald P. Carver, measured the Spanish subjects English reading ability by grade level. The four instruments were aviation maintenance task cards and tests developed by Boeing Aircraft which measured subject comprehension of maintenance procedures. The goal of this work was to determine how polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) affect gene expression at the molecular level. Glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) is a member of the family of lipogenic enzymes known to be inhibited by dietary PUFAs. Addition of PUFAs to diet causes a 70-80% decrease in G6PD enzyme activity and mRNA accumulation in liver with no change in transcriptional activity of the gene, indicating that regulation occurs at a posttranscriptional step. Similarly, regulation of G6PD by starvation and refeeding results in a 12- to 15-fold increase in G6PD activity and mRNA accumulation but no change in transcriptional …

Using a four step phenomenological approach for inquiry, the researcher explored and interpreted data obtained from the lived experiences of sixteen perimenopausal women and eight health care providers living in rural areas. A purposive sampling technique was utilized. Participation was on a voluntary basis. Data collection procedures included a face-to-face semi-structured taped interview and completion of a demographic questionnaire. Following analysis of the data, twenty-two common essences were identified from intuiting of the interview data.
