Feeding Habits Of The Eastern Woodrat (Neotoma Floridana) In Southern Illinois, Elizabeth R. Wagle, George A. Feldhamer

The eastern woodrat, a state-endangered species, is a generalist herbivore that depends on cached food during part of the year. We identified seasonal variation in the diet of woodrats at Pine Hills, Union County, Illinois, based on analysis of fecal pellets, and determined if they consumed forage in proportion to its availability in the habitat. Woodrats did not consume forage in proportion to availability for any season during 1995. Mast, primarily hickory nuts, comprised 61-67% of the diet each season, despite no mast available in the habitat during spring, and relatively little during summer. Few herbaceous species were eaten during …

Development, Change, And Poverty In The Informal Sector During The Era Of Structural Adjustments In Tanzania, Joe Lugalla
Development, Change, And Poverty In The Informal Sector During The Era Of Structural Adjustments In Tanzania, Joe Lugalla
Institute for Educational Development, East Africa
This article focuses on periods of economic crisis and structural adjustments in Tanzania, when the informal sector changed both quantitatively and qualitatively. It highlights that the traditional view that the informal sector accommodated the unemployed, the poor, the unskilled, as well as utilizing family labour and local resources, was questionable in most of the sub-Saharan countries which were experiencing a severe economic crisis and have adopted structural adjustment policies (SAPs). The author suggests that policy programs aimed at promoting the informal sector should acknowledge the fact that the crisis, as well as SAPs, have forced not only the poor, but …

Game Theory And Its Practical Applications, Angela M. Koos
Presidential Scholars Theses (1990 – 2006)
Game theory identifies players' optimal strategies in the face of interdependence and uncertainty . Games can be divided into two-person and n-person games, zero-sum and nonzero-sum games, and cooperative and non-cooperative games. Although this paper does not touch upon all of these aspects of game theory, it does offer a nice introduction of game theory and its applications for those who are not mathematical specialists.

Effects Of Environmental Sodium Chloride On Percent Hatch, Yolk Utilization, And Survival Of Channel Catfish Fry, C. R. Weirich, T. R. Tiersch
Effects Of Environmental Sodium Chloride On Percent Hatch, Yolk Utilization, And Survival Of Channel Catfish Fry, C. R. Weirich, T. R. Tiersch
Faculty Publications
Only limited research has addressed the effect of salinity on hatching of channel catfish Ictalurus punctatus eggs, and no studies have evaluated the effect of salinity on fry development and survival. This study was undertaken to determine the effect of environmental sodium chloride (0, 1, 2, and 4 g/L NaCl) on percent hatch, yolk utilization, and survival of channel catfish fry. Experiments were conducted in recirculating systems using seven egg masses (1-2 d old). Each egg mass was divided into smaller portions which remained undissociated or were dissociated with sodium sulfite (NaSO3). Eggs were incubated until hatching. Wet and dry …
