Utilizing Soyhulls In Livestock And Dairy Rations, Don Boggs, Kim Cassel, Jeff Held, Bob Thaler Apr 1997

Utilizing Soyhulls In Livestock And Dairy Rations, Don Boggs, Kim Cassel, Jeff Held, Bob Thaler

SDSU Extension Extra Archives

Soyhulls are a co-product of soybean processing. The soyhull is the seedcoat of the soybean (not the pod) and makes up approximately 8% of the soybean. When the soybeans are rolled or flaked, the soyhull pops loose from the meat of the seed. The soyhulls are very lightweight and once loose can easily be removed from the seed by air. The soyhulls are ground and blended back with the soybean meal to produce 44% meal, or they can be used as a feedstuff in various types of livestock and dry rations.

Johne's Disease In The Beef Herd, Bill Epperson Apr 1997

Johne's Disease In The Beef Herd, Bill Epperson

SDSU Extension Extra Archives

Johne's (pronounced yo-knees) disease is a slowly progressive disease of ruminants, including cattle. All beef producers need to be concerned about Johne's disease. Johne's costs the commercial beef producer through excessive culling, death loss, and suboptimal herd performance. Producers who sell Johne's infected breeding stock have been involved in litigation for selling diseased animals. Johne's is caused by the bacterium Mycobacterium paratuberculosis. M. paratuberculosis is slow growing and resistant to all common antibiotics. In contrast to most common bacteria, the Johne's organism persists in the environment for long periods of time, especially in areas associated with water. The organism survives …

À cet égard, l'expérience de deux troupes, Ie Catalyst Theatre d'Edmonton et la Company of Sirens de Toronto, montre les difficultés que soulèvent l'exploration de sujets comme la violence à la maison …

This study described the social organization of Neotoma micropus, the southern plains woodrat, using radiotelemetry. We studied woodrats from September 1994 through April 1995 at the Urban Wilderness Reserve in S Bexar County, Texas. Sixteen individuals (three adult males, 11 adult females, and two subadult males) were radiocollared and located in the evening or early morning during January and February. Seventy-four percent of female radiolocations and 57% of male radiolocations were from their respective nests. No more than one adult individual was observed at any nest at the same time. Males had significantly larger (x = 1899 m2 …

The Carnot Heterogeneous Database Project: Implemented Applications, Munindar Singh, Phil Cannata, Michael N. Huhns, Nigel Jacobs, Tomasz Ksiezyk, Kayliang Ong, Amit P. Sheth, Christine Tomlinson, Darrell Woelk

Kno.e.sis Publications

The Carnot project was an ambitious research project in heterogeneous databases. It integrated a variety of techniques to address a wide range of problems in achieving interoperation in heterogeneous environments. Here we describe some of the major implemented applications of this project. These applications concern(a) accessing a legacy scientific database, (b) automating a workflow involving legacy systems, (c) cleaning data, and (d) retrieving semantically appropriate information from structured databases in response to text queries. These applications support scientific decision support, business process management, data integrity enhancement, and analytical decision support, respectively. Still Lost In The Political Thicket (Or Why I Don't Understand The Concept Of Vote Dilution), Larry Alexander

Vanderbilt Law Review

I still don't get it. I can see why as partisans of this or that set of policies we will still care about how district lines are drawn, even if each district has an equal number of voters. We might wish to maximize black representation. We might wish to elect Democrats, or liberals, or incumbents. What I cannot see, however, is why the Constitution, or a supposedly nonpartisan measure like the Voting Rights Act,I should be enlisted in these partisan battles.

Professor Karlan does an admirable job of exploring whether and to what extent blacks benefit politically from being concentrated …
