New Pericopal-Based Hymnody For Lutheran Corporate Worship, Wilfred Karsten Sep 1996

New Pericopal-Based Hymnody For Lutheran Corporate Worship, Wilfred Karsten

Doctor of Ministry Major Applied Project

There are gaps where the corpus of hymnody in Lutheran Worship fails to support the lectionary used by that hymnal. This project produces thirteen new hymn texts which seek to fill part of that gap.

An analysis of Ephesians 5:19 and Colossians 3:16 shows that there may be a variety of congregational song used in the Divine Service, but this song must always be didactic in character. An examination of the hymnody of the Reformation shows that congregational song was meant to serve a liturgical purpose. An appendix compares Lutheran Worship hymn text scriptural allusions with its lectionary.

Positional Leaders In Minneapolis Neighborhood Groups, Stephanie Anne Anderson Sep 1996

Positional Leaders In Minneapolis Neighborhood Groups, Stephanie Anne Anderson

Theses and Graduate Projects

Leaders in 72 neighborhood groups recognized by the Minneapolis Community Development Agency were surveyed to test four hypotheses. Neighborhood leaders were expected to be white, middle or upper-income, college graduate, homeowning, women and not representative of Minneapolis residents. This proved valid except the number of men and women was equal. Respondents were expected to have become and stayed involved in their group over concern for property values and safety, this was partially true, other reasons were given. Neighborhood leaders were expected to report concern over the time needed for their group and to list burnout as the main reason they …

Simultaneous Identification Of A Specific Gene Protein Product And Transcript Using Combined Immunocytochemistry And In Situ Hybridization With Non-Radioactive Probes, Gwen V. Childs Sep 1996

Simultaneous Identification Of A Specific Gene Protein Product And Transcript Using Combined Immunocytochemistry And In Situ Hybridization With Non-Radioactive Probes, Gwen V. Childs

Scanning Microscopy

Simultaneous identification of messenger RNA (mRNA) and proteins in the same cells or tissues is a valuable tool to help the cell biologist evaluate the cell secretory cycle. Some cells may produce the mRNA and delay the production of the proteins. Alternatively, the proteins may be rapidly secreted. Other cells may produce both in sequence within the same time frame. Because of this difference, some cells can only be identified by their mRNA product. Others may have both products. This presentation describes a non-radioactive approach to the detection of both products with dual-peroxidase labeling protocols in use in this laboratory …
