Estimation Of Direct And Maternal Breed Effects For Prediction Of Expected Progeny Differences For Birth And Weaning Weights In Three Multibreed Populations, F. A. Rodriguez-Almeida, L. Dale Van Vleck, K. E. Gregory

Department of Animal Science: Faculty Publications

Direct and maternal breed effects on birth and 200-d weights were estimated for nine parental breeds (Hereford [H], Angus [A], Braunvieh [B], Limousin [L], Charolais [C], Simmental [S], Gelbvieh [G], Red Poll [R], and Pinzgauer [P]) that contributed to three composite populations (MARC I = ¼B, ¼C, ¼L, ⅛H, ⅛A; MARC II = ¼G, ¼S, ¼H, ¼A; and MARC III = ¼R, ¼P, ¼H, ¼A). Records from each population, the composite plus pure breeds and crosses used to create each composite, were analyzed separately. The animal model included fixed effects of contemporary group (birth year-sex-dam age), proportions of individual and …

Effective And Appropriate Use Of Controlled Experimentation In Software Development Research, Mark Alan Johnson Oct 1996

Effective And Appropriate Use Of Controlled Experimentation In Software Development Research, Mark Alan Johnson

Dissertations and Theses

Although there is a large body of research and publication on software development, only a limited amount of this work includes empirical demonstration of its effectiveness. Yet, it is this empirical understanding which will help move software development from a craft to an engineering discipline. Of the empirical methods for research, controlled experiments are the most commonly thought of in scientific studies, and yet the least used to study software development.

This thesis begins with a brief review of the different empirical methods commonly used to study software development. This review provides a quick introduction to each empirical method, compares …

The Effects Of Feedback To Raters On Subsequent Performance Ratings, A. Cybelle Lyon Oct 1996

The Effects Of Feedback To Raters On Subsequent Performance Ratings, A. Cybelle Lyon

Dissertations and Theses

Performance evaluations are often of critical. importance in an organization's decisions concerning compensation, training, promotion, and termination. Although the area of performance appraisal has been researched extensively, a gap in the literature appears to remain. No published research has explored how the favorability of feedback individuals receive on their own performance will affect the favorability of subsequent ratings they give to others. This gap is critical considering that this type of feedback chain is common in the work place. The purpose of the present study was to assess the effects of feedback (positive, average, or negative) on the mean rating …

A Novel Multilayer Circuit Process Using Yba2cu3ox /Srtio3 Thin Films, H.Q. Li, R.H. Ono, L.R. Vale, D.A. Rudman, Sy_Hwang Liou Oct 1996

A Novel Multilayer Circuit Process Using Yba2cu3ox /Srtio3 Thin Films, H.Q. Li, R.H. Ono, L.R. Vale, D.A. Rudman, Sy_Hwang Liou

Sy-Hwang Liou Publications

A process combining hydrofluoric acid (HF) and Ar+ ion milling has been used to make YBa2Cu3Oχ/SrTiO3/YBa2Cu2Oχ (YBCO/STO/YBCO) multilayer test circuits. Low-angle steps can be readily etched in STO and YBCO films with this process. YBCO lines crossing 5° steps have about the same critical temperature Tc (89–90 K) and critical current density Jc (>1X106 A/cm2 at 86 K) as lines on planar surfaces. Via connections have the same Tc as other circuit components and adequate critical currents for most circuit …
