The Carboxyl Terminus Of The Bacteriophage T4 Dna Polymerase Is Required For Holoenzyme Complex Formation, Anthony J. Berdis, Patrice Soumillion, Stephen J. Benkovic

Chemistry Faculty Publications

To further elucidate the mechanism and dynamics of bacteriophage T4 holoenzyme formation, a mutant polymerase in which the last six carboxyl-terminal amino acids are deleted, was constructed, overexpressed, and purified to homogeneity. The mutant polymerase, designated ΔC6 exo−, is identical to wild-type exo− polymerase with respect to kcat, kpol, and dissociation constants for nucleotide and DNA substrate. However, unlike wild-type exo− polymerase, the ΔC6 exo− polymerase is unable to interact with the 45 protein to form the stable holoenzyme. A synthetic polypeptide corresponding to the carboxyl terminus of the wild-type exo− polymerase was tested as an in vitro inhibitor of …

Strength Of Flexural Members Using Structural Grade 80 Of A653 Steel (Deck Panel Tests), Shaojie Wu, Wei-Wen Yu, Roger A. Laboube

CCFSS Library (1939 - present)

This second progress report describes the design of deck panel specimens for flexural tests and presents the test results of ninety-three deck panel specimens. The deck panels consisted of single and multiple hat-shaped ribs in their cross sections and were manufactured from 28, 26, and 22 gage steel sheets of Structural Grade 80 of ASTM A653 Steel. Among the ninety-three deck panel specimens, seventy-two panels were tested in simply supported and two-point loading conditions; sixteen panels were tested in simply supported and one-point loading conditions; and five panels with screws penetrating through tension flanges were tested in simply supported and …

Harry Flood Byrd: Conservative Leader Of Virginia, Stephanie Barker Nov 1996

Harry Flood Byrd: Conservative Leader Of Virginia, Stephanie Barker

Theses & Honors Papers

This thesis analyzes how conservative opposition grew and the effects of the Great Depression on Harry Byrd’s political views. The New Deal did not end the Great Depression, but it did usher in a new era in American governmental philosophy. Harry Byrd opposed the growing activism of the federal government and the New Deal’s approach to combating the depression. He maintained that government should be limited and economical. Although other modified their economic and political philosophies during the New Deal, Byrd never disowned the conservative principles that he formed early in life. Throughout the New Deal, Byrd remained committed to …

Electron Energy Distributions From Multiple Ionization In 20–120-Kev H+ + Ar Collisions, Yang-Soo Chung, M. Eugene Rudd Nov 1996

Electron Energy Distributions From Multiple Ionization In 20–120-Kev H+ + Ar Collisions, Yang-Soo Chung, M. Eugene Rudd

M. Eugene Rudd Publications

Energy-analyzed secondary electrons from H+ + Ar collisions at eight proton energies from 20 to 120 keV were detected in coincidence with recoil ions of charge states 1–3. The charge states were distinguished by time-of-flight measurements and the electron energies were analyzed by a newly designed electrostatic analyzer of the low-pass high-pass filter type which has a large (~1.45π steradian) solid angle acceptance. For each of nine electron energies from 10 to 160 eV, the ionizing events associated with each residual ion charge state were counted. The electron energy dependence of the charge-state ratios and the average charge determined …
