The Politics Of Nazi Art: The Portrayal Of Women In Nazi Painting, Jennifer Anne Miller Nov 1996

The Politics Of Nazi Art: The Portrayal Of Women In Nazi Painting, Jennifer Anne Miller

Dissertations and Theses

The study of Nazi art as an historical document provided an effective measure of Nazi political platform and social policy. Because the ideology of the Third Reich is represented within Nazi art itself, it is useful to have a good understanding of the politics and ideology, surrounding the German art world at the time. Women were used in this study as an exemplification of Nazi art. This study uses the subject of women in Nazi painting, to show how the ideology is represented within the art work itself. It was first necessary to understand the fervorent "cleansing" of the German …

The Effect Of Edge Constraints On The Surface Normal Impedance Of Layers Of Elastic Porous Materials, N.-M. Shiau, W. Desmet, J Stuart Bolton Nov 1996

The Effect Of Edge Constraints On The Surface Normal Impedance Of Layers Of Elastic Porous Materials, N.-M. Shiau, W. Desmet, J Stuart Bolton

Publications of the Ray W. Herrick Laboratories

A two-dimensional model for wave propagation in elastic porous materials has been used to investigate the effects of edge constraints on the surface normal impedance of elastic porous materials when placed in standing wave tubes. The elastic porous material model used was based on the Biot theory and takes into account the three wave-types known to propagate within elastic porous materials. Previous work has indicated that the acoustical behavior of typical noise control foams can be very sensitive to small mounting details. Consequently, it is reasonable to expect that the surface normal impedance measured by placing foam in a standing …

Simplicity, Angela Stickell Nov 1996

Simplicity, Angela Stickell

Theses

My thesis work is intended to be part of an ongoing polemic concerning the value of modernism. Modernism occurred at a time in history when craft, industrial design and architectural design were enjoying reciprocal influences. Many architects were translating their architectural value systems into object designs, many of which became landmarks of twentieth century design. This crossover between the fields, which is evidenced still today, produced a rich theoretic tradition from which to draw. I am convinced that architectural design and object design are invariably linked and this is reflected in my thesis works as well as in my thesis …

Selection Of Populations Of Puccinia Recondita F. Sp. Tritici For Shortened Latent Period On A Partially Resistant Wheat Cultivar, Jeffrey Lehman Nov 1996

Selection Of Populations Of Puccinia Recondita F. Sp. Tritici For Shortened Latent Period On A Partially Resistant Wheat Cultivar, Jeffrey Lehman

Biology and Earth Science Faculty Scholarship

Wild-type fungal population 851-WT was selected for shortened latent period on cv. CI 13227 for five uredinial generations to study the adaptation of Puccinia recondita f. sp. tritici to partially resistant wheat cultivars. Differences among wild-type and selected populations for traits contributing to parasitic fitness (i.e., latent period, infection frequency, and uredinium area and growth rate) were assessed in monocyclic infection experiments on susceptible cv. Monon and partially resistant cvs. Suwon 85, Sw 72469-6, L-574-1, and CI 13227. Differences were greatest among fungal populations on cv. CI 13227. The mean latent period of selected population 851-C5 was 2 days shorter …
