Initiatives
CASINO GAMBLING. INITIATIVE CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT. Repeals existing constitutional ban on gambling casinos. Legalizes casino gambling, including slot machines, at specified horse racing tracks. Authorizes any owner of race track property to own casino. Establishes California Casino Gambling Commission to control, manage, regulate, and license casinos, consisting of Chairman and eight members, nominated by Governor, confirmed by Senate. Imposes tax on annual net gaming revenues: 8% for state support of education; 1% for county where casino located; 1% to support Commission. Taxes deductible from casino's state income tax liability; casino exempt from other specified taxes. Repeals, amends, or modifies conflicting laws. …

Student Modeling In An Intelligent Tutoring System, Jeremy E. Thompson

This thesis explores a new approach to modeling the student in an intelligent tutoring system (ITS), by providing a student model which learns new solutions from the student. A prototype of the new approach to ITS is demonstrated in the Euclidean geometry domain. Complete C++, CLIPS, and Tcl/Tk code listings are included in the appendices for reference. Adaptable multiple software agents were targeted for implementation, based on current literature. However, the student model is found to be maintainable without multiple software agents, while still allowing for tracking several possible solution paths when monitoring student solutions. The purpose of this research is to design and implement an object-oriented discrete-event simulation system which supports hierarchically constructed players in a parallel or distributed environment. This system design considers modularity and portability so additional modules may be implemented to experiment with new algorithms for both partitioning and synchronization. A simulation system which meets these requirements was partially implemented on an eight-node Intel Hypercube in C. A desired goal was to maintain the functionality of the existing BattleSim application. Test cases used measure the performance and correct operation of the new simulation architecture using a BattleSim subclass. Test results prove …

Complex real-world systems consist of collections of interacting processes/events. These processes change over time in response to both internal and external stimuli as well as to the passage of time. Many domains such as real-time systems diagnosis, (mechanized) story understanding, planning and scheduling, and financial forecasting require the capability to model complex systems under a unified framework to deal with both time and uncertainty. Existing uncertainty representations and existing temporal models already provide rich languages for capturing uncertainty and temporal information, respectively. Distribution, Abundance, And Quality Of Forage Within The Summer Range Of The Central Arctic Caribou Herd, Michael D. Smith

Distribution, abundance, and quality of summer forage available to caribou (Rangifer tarandus granti) of the Central Arctic Herd were determined in July and August, 1989 -1990. Plant cover, an index of available biomass, was measured at three sites within 50 km of the arctic coast. In general, plant cover increased with distance from the coast. Cover of forbs and evergreen shrubs was higher at inland sites (P < 0.001), whereas cover of willows (Salix spp.) was highest at the coastal site (P < 0.001). Higher plant cover inland is largely attributable to a greater proportion of drier habitats. Differences in forage quality among sites, however, were small and inconsistent. I conclude that by feeding inland during insect-free periods, caribou realize a net energy benefit, because of higher plant biomass, higher proportion of drier habitat, and greater species diversity than coastal areas.

From its very inception, the Foursquare denomination has functioned in the gifting of creativity. Just as in genetic coding family traits are passed down, there is a freedom of Spirit and blessing from God to be received by current Foursquare pastors from Aimee Semple McPherson's legacy of unique spiritual gifts. This denomination, once thought of as a cult, is now one of the fastest growing denominations in the United States and is known throughout the charismatic community worldwide. Seasonal Proximate Composition And Food Source Comparisons Of Dolly Varden Char In The Kugururok River, Alaska, Robert James Foy

The Kugururok River on the Noatak River System is an important spawning tributary for Dolly Varden char (Salvelinus malma), an important subsistence resource, occur bycatch in commercial fisheries, and are the basis of a sport fishery. The feeding habits and energetic condition of two spawning run patterns in the Noatak River Drainage were studied. Isotope ratio analysis revealed a predominantly marine carbon and nitrogen composition in all adult char. No internal isotopic fractionations were found either between tissues or seasons in any tissue. Proximate analysis revealed patterns of lipid and protein utilization characteristic of periodic starvation in fishes. Significant shifts …
