The Introduction And Development Of Printing In Finland, 1631-1727, Esa-Mikael Kokka
The Introduction And Development Of Printing In Finland, 1631-1727, Esa-Mikael Kokka
Theses
The objective of this thesis project was to prepare a detailed yet reasonably compact history of the three early printing houses in Finland within a context of general Finnish and Scandinavian history. An extensive study of the literature was needed to accomplish the set goals. The literature included books on both early printing in Finland and on its general history. The necessary field studies consisted of visits to museums, university libraries, archives and churches. These offered the opportunity to study old manuscripts and the early printed products. Some experts were also interviewed. As a result of this research, a compact …
Pornography Drives Technology: Why Not To Censor The Internet, Peter Johnson
Pornography Drives Technology: Why Not To Censor The Internet, Peter Johnson
Federal Communications Law Journal
Historically, the development of new media has been advanced by the creators of pornography. This was evident as communications media evolved from vernacular speech to movable type, to photography, to paperback books, to videotape, to cable and pay-TV, to 900 phone lines, to the French Minitel, and to the Internet. In short, pornography, far from being an evil that the First Amendment must endure, is a positive good that encourages experimentation with new technology. Accordingly, society should not view cyberpornographers as pariahs, rather they should be viewed as explorers who pave the roads for civilization to follow.

The Legislative History Of Senator Exon's Communications Decency Act: Regulating Barbarians On The Information Superhighway, Robert Cannon
Federal Communications Law Journal
Among the most visible and controversial provisions of the Telecommunications Act of 1996 have been those of an amendment to the larger act known as the Communications Decency Act. This article critically examines the legislative history of this amendment, creating a record of both official and unofficial sources. The article also notes the relevance of the legislative history as demonstrating both the unconstitutionality and the practical inefficacy of the statute.

Genetic And Social Control Of Male Maturation In Phallichthys Quadripunctatus (Pisces: Poeciliidae), Gita R. Kolluru, David N. Reznick
Genetic And Social Control Of Male Maturation In Phallichthys Quadripunctatus (Pisces: Poeciliidae), Gita R. Kolluru, David N. Reznick
Biological Sciences
Age and size at maturity can have significant fitness consequences. Selection often favors early-maturing individuals because of their higher survival to maturity and greater relative contribution to population growth rate, but it may also favor delayed maturation if fitness increases with age or size at maturity. Males of several poeciliid fishes exhibit variation in age and size at maturity primarily controlled by a sex-linked gene called the P-locus. Wild-caught Phallichthys quadripunctatus males show a bimodal size distribution, which is often associated with a P-locus polymorphism in other poeciliids. We conducted two experiments to evaluate the inheritance of male age and …
Rhetoric And Healing: Revising Narratives About Disability, Jacqueline Rinaldi
Rhetoric And Healing: Revising Narratives About Disability, Jacqueline Rinaldi
SHU Faculty Publications
One uses rhetoric for many purposes, say the Baumlins: "to express, to create, to praise, to blame, to analyze, to explore, to doubt, to destroy, to curse ... to cure and heal" (259). As the last of these purposes-"to cure and heal"-has long been ignored within our profession, it may well be time to explore the therapeutic potential of the reflective prose that we ask students to write in more traditional classroom settings. But, whether the move to link rhetoric with healing happens within the walls of the academy or in less structured settings as part of composition's extracurriculum, the …
Directory Of Water Related Courses Offered At Colleges And Universites In Arkansas, Kenneth F. Steele
Directory Of Water Related Courses Offered At Colleges And Universites In Arkansas, Kenneth F. Steele
Arkansas Water Resources Center Technical Reports
This publication lists the water and water-related courses at several universities and colleges in Arkansas as reported during the Fall of 1996. It Is anticipated that users of this directory will extend beyond college students, and will include professionals seeking continuing education, and professors desiring to exchange information on courses. This directory is not an "absolute" source of water and water-related courses because all of the higher learning institutions in Arkansas are not listed, and, secondly, because the definition of "water and water-related" varies from institution to institution. None-the-less this directory provides a very valuable and impressive reference on water …

Belden Center Books
This book deals with two profound questions: First, "what can we do, in the name of Godly charity and true religion, to keep on providing help, assistance, support, love, care and nurturing for birthmothers? And second, "what can we also do to keep finding ways, in these complex legal times, that such children can continue to fill the aching voids in the hearts of other childless couples?"

Experimental Validation Of Finite Element Analysis Software Applied To The Design Of A Motorcycle Swingarm, Bret Schaller
Master's Theses - Daytona Beach
This thesis documents the experimental validation of finite element analysis software applied to the design of a motorcycle swingarm. The process includes design and implementation of an onboard data acquisition system; definition and measurement of operational loads; laboratory correlation of loads; experimental validation of Pro/Mechanica finite element analysis software; design and prototype development of a single-sided motorcycle swingarm; and computer modeling using the Pro/Engineer solid modeling package.
