A Preliminary Study In The Design Of A Stress Inventory For Gifted Students: A Factor Analysis Of Potential Items, David Kinkade
A Preliminary Study In The Design Of A Stress Inventory For Gifted Students: A Factor Analysis Of Potential Items, David Kinkade
Masters Theses
Items were designed for potential utilization in a stress inventory for gifted students. Two types of items were written; the first assessing stressful life events and situations, the second assessing coping ability. Both sets of items were administered to gifted students (N = 162) currently enrolled in the seventh and eighth grades. A principle components factor analysis with a varimax rotation was performed on both sets of items separately. The first set produced a four factor solution. The factors which emerged were identified as self-concept of giftedness, positive gifted programming, negative aspects of the gifted label, and performance pressure. The …
The Continuum Of Care For The Traumatic Brain Injured, Maile M.K. Collado
The Continuum Of Care For The Traumatic Brain Injured, Maile M.K. Collado
Physical Therapy Scholarly Projects
Physical therapists play an important role in the rehabilitation and management of the traumatic brain injured (TBI) patient. Physical therapy is accomplished through therapeutic strategies, intervention techniques, and recommendations for placement and discharge. Many times P.T. services are discontinued for various reasons, two of which are loss of reimbursement or the perception that the patient no longer requires P.T. services. Many times, however, services are discontinued due to a lack of awareness of available services.
There is limited research available that follows the TBI patient along the continuum of care towards reintegration into society .. Thus, the purpose of this …
The Psychological Modulation Of The Immune System: A Meta-Analysis, Sara D. Cottrill
The Psychological Modulation Of The Immune System: A Meta-Analysis, Sara D. Cottrill
Open Access Dissertations
In the mid seventies, Robert Ader and Nicholas Cohen (1975) conducted and published a series of experiments that are generally recognized as a major turning point for the behavioral and physical sciences. In classical conditioning experiments, Ader and Cohen were able to weaken the immune system reaction against foreign material in rats. The experiments demonstrated that the "self-regulating and autonomous" immune system was vulnerable to behavioral factors. These experiments seemed to galvanize a community of scientists who had hypothesized like scientists and philosophers before them the role of emotional states in influencing physiological processes.
The preeminent discipline which has evolved …

The Effects Of Aids Education On Knowledge And Health Care Beliefs Of Freshman Nursing Students, Suzanne M. Nahan
The Effects Of Aids Education On Knowledge And Health Care Beliefs Of Freshman Nursing Students, Suzanne M. Nahan
Masters Theses
The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of AIDS education on knowledge and health care beliefs of freshman nursing students. It was hypothesized that freshman nursing students presented with AIDS instruction would have more AIDS knowledge than freshman student nurses without AIDS instruction. In addition, it has hypothesized that the strength of health care beliefs related to AIDS susceptibility, seriousness, benefits, barriers and health motivation of freshman nursing students with AIDS instruction would differ from those without AIDS instruction.; A quasi-experimental control group pretest/posttest design was used. The sample consisted of 50 freshman student nurses enrolled in …

Sensory Interaction And Descriptions Of Fabric Hand., L. D. Burns, J. Chandler, D. M. Brown, B. Cameron, M. J. Dallas

82 subjects who viewed and felt fabrics (sensory interaction group) used different categories of terms to describe fabric hand than did 38 subjects who only felt the fabrics. Therefore, the methods used to measure fabric hand that isolate the senses may not accurately assess the way in which subjects describe fabric hand in nonlaboratory settings.

Human Circadian Rhythms And The Shift Work Practices Of Air Traffic Controllers, Raymon M. Mcadaragh
Human Circadian Rhythms And The Shift Work Practices Of Air Traffic Controllers, Raymon M. Mcadaragh
Journal of Aviation/Aerospace Education & Research
This research investigates human circadian rhythms and describes how they are affected by different types of shift work rotation patterns. Past studies have indicated that air traffic controllers prefer to work the type of rotation patterns that induce the negative result of circadian dysrhythmia. It has been established that workers experience decrements in performance from this condition. Recently, an alternate work schedule has allowed controllers to work new various rotation patterns, some of which disrupt circadian processes even more than previously preferred schedules. A descriptive analysis of controller work schedules from randomly selected facilities indicates that 16% of controllers are …
A Comparison Of Two Methods Of Body Composition Assessment In Prepubescent Males And Females, Kristine M. Feldmann
A Comparison Of Two Methods Of Body Composition Assessment In Prepubescent Males And Females, Kristine M. Feldmann
Dissertations and Theses @ UNI
The. purpose of this study was to compare two methods of body composition assessment in predicting body fat percentages of 6-8 year old males and females. The percentage of body fat predicted from the bioelectrical impedance method was compared with the percentage of body fat predicted from skinfold measurements. It was hypothesized that there would be no difference between the RJL System's BIA 101 Impedance Analyzer and skinfolds in determining body fat percentage. Subjects consisted of 38 females with a mean age of 7.27 + .802 years and 22 males with a mean age of 7.16 + .808 years. Statistical …
