A Model Of The Link Between The Fiscal System And Singapore's Central Provident Fund In General Equilibrium, Hian Teck Hoon, Kai Lin Teo

Research Collection School Of Economics

This paper demonstrates a channel through which the fiscal system interacts with the choice of CPF contribution rates to affect total savings, and hence, capital accumulation and the current account. It is shown that in the presence of a wage income tax, raising either the employee's or employer's contribution rates raises the total private earnings. On the other hand, in the presence of a capital income tax, raising the employee's or employer's contribution rates lowers total private savings. However, when we introduce a productive role for government spending, we show that an increase in CPF contribution rates under a balances …

Property Pawnbrokers: Provide Comprehensive Legislation Regulating Loans On Motor Vehicle Titles, J. Anthony Love

Georgia State University Law Review

The Act makes extensive changes in the manner in which a pawnbroker may offer loans to individuals who pledge the title of their motor vehicle as security. The most significant provisions of the Act set new limits on the amount of interest which may be charged on a pawnbroker loan and require pawnbrokers to provide individuals seeking such loans with detailed disclosure settlements. The Act further revises the Georgia Code sections dealing with the leasing of motor vehicles pledged for loans, limitations on the duration of pawn transactions, the amount of storage fees which a pawnbroker may charge, the amount …

The Act also identifies categories of persons jointly, severally, and strictly liable to the state for costs incurred by the state in the cleanup. Revenue And Taxation Income Taxes: Adjust The Treatment Of Capital Gains, Job Tax Credits, And Gain Or Loss From The Sale Of Property, Trent B. Speckhals

Georgia State University Law Review

HB 456 allows Georgia taxpayers to adjust their taxable net income with respect to capital gains in the same manner as is used in computing federal adjusted gross income. HB 1399 expands tax credits for newly created jobs to more counties for certain employers. HB 1739 brings Georgia tax law into conformity with federal tax law by allowing those who sell personal residence property in Georgia to avoid paying taxes on the gain or loss of that residential property as long as the person purchases another personal residence anywhere else in the United States within two years.

Stephen Crane At Claverack College: A New Reading, Thomas A. Gullason Oct 1992

Stephen Crane At Claverack College: A New Reading, Thomas A. Gullason

The Courier

BEFORE HIS ONE-YEAR STINT as a college student-first at Lafayette College (September to December 1890), then at Syracuse University (January to June 1891) Stephen Crane attended two coeducational preparatory schools with strong Methodist ties: Pennington Seminary (September 1885 to December 1887), and Claverack College and Hudson River Institute (January 1888 to June 1890). Both schools were to play key roles in young Crane's literary, cultural, and intellectual life. The new evidence offered in this essay corrects long-held positions regarding why Stephen left Pennington for Claverack and the "diminished" reputation of Claverack as a preparatory school.

Fenimore Cooper's Libel Suits, Constantine Evans

The Courier

ON 5 AUGUST 1832 James Fenimore Cooper began a letter in Spa, Belgium, to his nephew Richard Cooper, a lawyer in Cooperstown, New York. At one point in this chatty letter he asks Richard to look into the ownership of the Gilbert Stuart portrait of his father, William Cooper. It interests him, he tells Richard, because "I am getting to be a collector". The letter breaks off with a synopsis of European affairs:

"Europe is in a very unquiet state. The governments hope to crush the spirit of the people, and the people begin to see the means of extricating …
