Linear Theory Of Non-Neutral Plasma Equilibrium In A Tilted Magnetic Field, Ross L. Spencer, Grant W. Hart
Linear Theory Of Non-Neutral Plasma Equilibrium In A Tilted Magnetic Field, Ross L. Spencer, Grant W. Hart
Faculty Publications
A linear perturbation expansion has been found that allows the rapid and accurate calculation of the response of a non-neutral plasma to a tilted magnetic field. The results of the calculation have been found to agree with previous three-dimensional equilibrium calculations, and also to agree with Keinigs' [Phys. Fluids 24, 860 (1981)] calculation of zero-frequency resonances caused by magnetic field errors. This expansion also allows the perturbed velocity to be calculated. It is speculated that this perturbed flow may be related to the enhanced radial transport in a non-neutral plasma with a tilted magnetic field.

While the history books refer to hemophilia as the disease of kings because it was once common among European royalty, the disorder now makes headlines for a completely different reason. It is estimated that at least 70% of the hemophiliacs whoo received blood products between 1978 and 1985 have been infected with HIV.

A Failed Critique Of State Constitutionalism, David Schuman
A Failed Critique Of State Constitutionalism, David Schuman
Michigan Law Review
James A. Gardner begins The Failed Discourse of State Constitutionalism with a story describing "the experience of a great many lawyers in this country." The protagonist is an attorney whose client has an unlawful discrimination claim that for some reason cannot succeed under the U.S. Supreme Court's current equal protection jurisprudence. The attorney decides to present an argument based on her state constitution's equality guarantee, only to discover that the universe of material from which a plausible argument, not to mention a rich discourse, might emerge - existing case law and scholarship, "useful tidbits" of constitutional history and philosophy from …
Nondeposit Deposits And The Future Of Bank Regulation, Jonathan R. Macey, Geoffrey P. Miller
Nondeposit Deposits And The Future Of Bank Regulation, Jonathan R. Macey, Geoffrey P. Miller
Michigan Law Review
We argue in this paper that the nation has already entered with a vengeance into the era of nondeposit deposit banking. The traditional bank deposit against which reserves must be held and deposit insurance paid is suffering encroachment from a wide variety of competitive instruments and arrangements, all of which, to one degree or another - often to a substantial degree - serve a function economically similar to that of the checking account at a depository institution.
The legal system may respond to these developments by attempting to bring nondeposit deposits under regulation, as it has done with other banking …

The Outer Fringes Of Chapter 11: Nonconsenting Senior Lenders' Rights Under Subordination Agreements In Bankruptcy, David Kravitz
The Outer Fringes Of Chapter 11: Nonconsenting Senior Lenders' Rights Under Subordination Agreements In Bankruptcy, David Kravitz
Michigan Law Review
This Note focuses on the options a senior creditor in Frugal's position may have when a reorganization plan provides for payments in violation of a subordination agreement that the creditor wishes to enforce. Part I explains the different types of subordination agreements and discusses their treatment under pre-Code bankruptcy law and under the Bankruptcy Code. Because of the dearth of case law regarding nonconsenting senior lenders and subordination agreements, Part II considers a question in a related area of bankruptcy law where more authority exists: whether a reorganization plan may release a nonbankrupt guarantor from its obligations under the guaranty …

Investigation Of Strontium-Doped La(Cr, Mn)O3 For Solid Oxide Fuel Cells, Rasit Koc, Harlan U. Anderson
Investigation Of Strontium-Doped La(Cr, Mn)O3 For Solid Oxide Fuel Cells, Rasit Koc, Harlan U. Anderson
Materials Science and Engineering Faculty Research & Creative Works
The (La, Sr) (Cr, Mn)O3 system was investigated in an effort to develop an interconnect and cathode materials for solid oxide fuel cells. Sintering studies were done in air at temperatures below 1500°C. Significant improvements in densification were observed with substitution of 50 mol% Mn for chromium and a density of 95% theoretical was achieved with the substitution of 70 mol% Mn for chromium in the La(Cr, Mn)O3 system. Electrical conductivity (d.c.) measurements were made as a function of temperature and oxygen activity. At 1000°C and 1 atm oxygen, the electrical conductivity ranged from 2.2-20 S cm-1 …
Structural Ceramic Incorporating Boron Carbide Whiskers For The Strengthening Thereof, P. D. Ownby, J. Liu
Structural Ceramic Incorporating Boron Carbide Whiskers For The Strengthening Thereof, P. D. Ownby, J. Liu
Materials Science and Engineering Faculty Research & Creative Works
Ceramic composites, and in particular structural ceramic composites, have enhanced strength, toughness and abrasion resistance due to the presence of up to about 40 volume percent of relatively large boron carbide whiskers. Although whiskers of various sizes were studied, those of particular interest are whiskers having an average diameter greater than about 3 micrometers, and particularly about 5 to about 8 micrometers, with an average aspect ratio of about 50. Due to the larger size, which had been predicted to be detrimental, there is less respiratory health risk when using these whiskers in the manufacturing of thse improved ceramic composites. …
N-Well Cmos Process Integration, David T. Price
N-Well Cmos Process Integration, David T. Price
Theses
The predominant integrated circuit fabrication technologies used for VLSI devices are CMOS, and BiCMOS. The goal of this work was to develop a CMOS process that could be converted into a BiCMOS technology. For this reason an N-Well CMOS process was selected, and fabricated in the Microelectronic Engineering clean room. This paper reviews the test chip design, process simulation, fabrication, and electrical characterization of this process. The device fabrication was successful, and the electrical testing clearly indicated what measures need to be taken to improve the process.
Investigations On Thin Film Polysilicon Mosfets With Si-Ge Ion Implanted Channels, Luigi Ternullo
Investigations On Thin Film Polysilicon Mosfets With Si-Ge Ion Implanted Channels, Luigi Ternullo
Theses
Thin Film Transistors have been fabricated in 0.2 urn thick polycrystalline silicon. NMOS and PMOS devices were fabricated on four groups of substrates. One group was processed with as deposited polysilicon and three of the substrates received high dose implants of Si and/or Ge prior to anneal. The Si implants were designed to amorphize the film by a process known as Seed Selection through Ion Channeling (SSIC), and the Ge was implanted just below the surface to enhance transistor characteristics. Two of the groups, one which received Ge implanted just below the surface and the other no implant at all, …
