A Family History Of John And Anna Von Gunten, Collin S. Van Gunten Nov 1992

A Family History Of John And Anna Von Gunten, Collin S. Van Gunten

Swiss American Historical Society Review

Greetings to All My Family:

The idea of a family history began this year when I attempted to identify my ancestors who preceded John and Anna von Gunten - an attempt to stretch backward the generations of our family tree. Other families overwhelm me with their pedigrees reaching into the 18th, even the 17th, century. So why shouldn't I trace my roots to a greater depth, hoping that our heritage would be revealed

In early 1989 I contacted a prof esmonal genealogist, asking if she would undertake a search of John's lineage. She declined, saying she did not specialize in …

Final Summary Report To The Narragansett Bay Project Office: Assessment Of Organic Contaminants In Narragansett Bay Sediments And Hard Shell Clams, James G. Quinn, James S. Latimer, Lawrence A. Leblanc, John T. Ellis

Graduate School of Oceanography Publications

As part of a multidisciplinary investigation on the sediments of Narragansett Bay, sediment trap materials, surface sediments, hard shell clams (Mercenaria mercenaria) and sediment cores from throughout the bay were analyzed for organic contaminants including: polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), petroleum hydrocarbons (PHCs). polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), substituted benzotriazoles (BZTs), bis (2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP) and coprostanol (COP). The objectives of this particular study were to provide information on the source, transport and biogeochemical fate of organic contaminants in the bay: while the overall goals of the investigation were to characterize the sediments and sedimentary processes of the Narragansett Bay system …

Renormalization-Group Study Of The Standard Model And Its Extensions: The Standard Model, H. Arason, Diego Castano, B. Kesthelyi, S. Mikaelian, E. J. Piard, P. Ramond, B. D. Wright

Chemistry and Physics Faculty Articles

In this paper we present a comprehensive analysis of the running of all the couplings of the standard model to two loops, including threshold effects. Our purpose is twofold—to determine what the running of these parameters may indicate for the physics of the standard model and to provide a template for the study of its extensions up to the Planck mass.

Sentencing Guidelines: Recommendations For Sentencing Reform, Barbara S. Barrett Nov 1992

Sentencing Guidelines: Recommendations For Sentencing Reform, Barbara S. Barrett

Missouri Law Review

For the last twenty years, much of the discussion about the criminal justice system has focused on criminal sentencing. Prior to 1970, the states and the federal government used indeterminate sentencing, a method whereby judges and parole boards exercised a great deal of discretion over the length of criminal sentences. This Article discusses the reasons why sentencing guidelines are the best way to achieve proportionality and uniformity in the sentencing of criminal offenders. Sentencing guidelines have been implemented in a number of states and the federal system, and, thus, the successes and failures of those reforms offer lessons for future …
