Stratification Of Habitats For Identifying Habitat Selection By Merriam's Turkeys, Mark A. Rumble, Stanley H. Anderson Sep 1992

Stratification Of Habitats For Identifying Habitat Selection By Merriam's Turkeys, Mark A. Rumble, Stanley H. Anderson

Great Basin Naturalist

Habitat selection patterns of Merriam's Turkeys were compared in hierarchical analyses of three levels of habitat stratification. Habitat descriptions in first-level analyses were based on dominant species of vegetation. Habitat descriptions in second-level analyses were based on dominant species of vegetation and overstory canopy cover. Habitat descriptions in third-level analyses were based on dominant species of vegetation, overstory canopy cover, and structural stages (dbh categories). First-level analyses showed turkeys selected for ponderosa pine and selected against meadow habitats. No conclusions could be drawn regarding forest management on habitat selection of turkeys at this level of habitat stratification. Second-level analyses showed …

The Effects Of Momentum Bias On A Gravity Gradient Stabilized Spacecraft With Active Magnetic Control, Parimal Pal, Stephen Fox Sep 1992

The Effects Of Momentum Bias On A Gravity Gradient Stabilized Spacecraft With Active Magnetic Control, Parimal Pal, Stephen Fox

Small Satellite Conference

The improvements achieved by adding a momentum bias wheel to a Gravity Gradient (GG) stabilized spacecraft are evaluated. Mass, power, and computational processing requirements, as well as performance, are compared for three Attitude Determination and Control Subsystem (ADACS) scenarios. Spacecraft which require low mass and power have long Incorporated GG torques as a passive stabilization technique. The spacecraft is oriented in the general direction required by the mission, but the overall attitude and attitude rate errors are not exceptionally tight. In order to improve the spacecraft pointing accuracies the GG stabilized ADACS .can be augmented by an active control technique. …

On The Green Vol. 22 No. 43 September 21, 1992, Gallaudet University

1991-2000

On the Green is an internal publication of Gallaudet College, which later became Gallaudet University. It notified employees of updates around the campus and in the broader community, including new construction and the establishment of new academic programs. Running until 2010, it was supplanted by various forms of online mass communications across multiple audiences.

Voting Policy And Voter Participation: The Legacy Of The 1980s, Alex Willingham Sep 1992

Voting Policy And Voter Participation: The Legacy Of The 1980s, Alex Willingham

Trotter Review

It has been widely recognized, at least since the Selma march during the civil rights movement, that the interests of black citizens and other minorities are directly connected to their capacity to participate in the political process and to public policies that protect that option. The clear message of the Selma demonstration was that, for a people constrained by a broad range of oppressive racist structures, voting is a basic resource for protecting all other rights. Further, it was clear that those who control power will restrict access to the ballot as their main line of defense.

Vote Dilution Research: Methods Of Analysis, Sheila Ards, Marjorie Lewis Sep 1992

Vote Dilution Research: Methods Of Analysis, Sheila Ards, Marjorie Lewis

Trotter Review

Why have issues which disproportionately affect African Americans not been brought to the policy forefront and given attention properly so that effective solutions can be found? Because of their roles as controllers of the government's budget, politicians and other policy makers decide which problems will be addressed. It is important, therefore, that African Americans elect political candidates of their choice. In the past, African Americans largely were outside the arena of public policy setting. Thus, solutions to problems which disproportionately affected African Americans were not pursued.

Bayesian Defeat Of Camouflage, Rufus H. Cofer Sep 1992

Bayesian Defeat Of Camouflage, Rufus H. Cofer

Electrical Engineering and Computer Science Faculty Publications

A new technique is shown for refining and reducing incoming camouflage data based upon the Bayesian paradigm. Innovation is displayed in use of a statistical conditioning sequence that avoids the need to form target features from the data. The result is a simplified and more accurate probabilistic indication of actual target presence. This probabilistic indication can then be incorporated into a variety of target detection scenarios or, alternately, to form the basis of a theoretically optimal Bayesian target detector. Numeric simulation is presented to show the effectiveness of the technique against simulated camouflage

Ron Daniels: Profile Of A Presidential Candidate, Harold Horton Sep 1992

Ron Daniels: Profile Of A Presidential Candidate, Harold Horton

Trotter Review

The mass media has said very little about it, but Ron Daniels, an African American, is a presidential candidate. In 1988, Daniels was the southern regional coordinator and deputy campaign manager for Jesse Jackson's campaign. Daniels, a veteran social and political activist as well as former director of the National Rainbow Coalition, declared his candidacy for president at a news conference October 14, 1991.

From 1974 to 1980, Daniels served as president of the National Black Political Assembly and in 1980, he was the chairperson of the founding convention of the National Black Independent Political Party. Daniels was the convener …

The Development Of A Small Satellite Attitude Control Simulator, Rees Fullmer, Glen Peterson, Walter Holmans, Jay Smith, Jim Nottingham, Shaun Anderson, Tanya Olsen, Frank Redd

Small Satellite Conference

Utah State University has developed an air bearing table to simulate the attitude dynamics of a small satellite. The Small Satellite Attitude Control Simulator (SSACS) table includes attitude sensors, a control computer, movable mass units and gas jet thrusters. This paper describes the design of the SSACS table and provides preliminary experimental results from 3 axis control tests.

Preparation Of School Psychologists In Behavioral Consultation Service Delivery, Thomas R. Kratochwill, Pamela Carrington Rotto, Susan M. Sheridan, Diane Salmon

Department of Educational Psychology: Faculty Publications

Practicing school psychologists have reported that consultation generally has been a high priority in service delivery approaches in schools and other applied settings (e.g., Gutkin, Singer, & Brown, 1980; Lesiak & Lounsbury, 1977; Meacham & Peckam, 1978). Although many practitioners now receive didactic training, few school psychology programs may actually provide a field practicum or other supervised experience in consultation. Formal applied training in consultation is important for several professional and ethical reasons. In the last decade, there has been growing concern over the limitations of traditional psychoeducational services provided to children in school settings. For example, studies have demonstrated …

Vcu Voice (1992-09-18) Sep 1992

Vcu Voice (1992-09-18)

VCU Voice, 1988-1998

VCU Today, the University’s first official administrative organ, began as a somewhat irregular monthly publication but moved to a bi-weekly newspaper format in the 1980s. The newspaper changed its name to VCU Voice in 1988 and ten years later it appeared under the title UniverCity News. As it neared the end of its run as a physical newspaper, the publication became simply VCU News. These four publications were essentially the same periodical published under different titles by the Office of University Relations. VCU News appeared online for the first time in 2002.
