Metamorphic Petrology And Gravity Studies Of The Archean English River Subprovince, Western Superior Province, Manitoba And Ontario, Canada, Moira E. Campion

Theses and Dissertations

The tectonic development of the English River Subprovince (ERSP) of the Superior Province in Ontario and Manitoba, as with other Archean medium-high grade metasedimentary/gneiss terranes, is an area of active research. Geochemical and geophysical data were collected during this study to determine the metamorphic conditions of formation, and the relationship between surface and subsurface geology. The results of metamorphic studies by Henke (1984), Baumann (1985), Chipera (1985) and Roob (1987) were also integrated with those of this study. The temperatures and pressures of formation, as well as detailed gravity characteristics, constrain the postulated tectonic model for the ERSP.

Models Of Shame, Family Functioning, And Psychosocial Outcomes In A College Population, Sherri Nelson Fitts Jan 1992

Models Of Shame, Family Functioning, And Psychosocial Outcomes In A College Population, Sherri Nelson Fitts

Open Access Dissertations

An empirical investigation of shame was conducted, using a structural equation modeling approach with a sample of 750 undergraduates. The general model being tested involved three sets of latent constructs: functioning as the independent variable, shame as the mediating variable, and five psychosocial outcomes as the dependent variables. Five models were generated, one per outcome variable. Three of the outcomes were maladaptive ones: substance use, depression, and suicide ideation. The remaining two, risk-taking propensity and achievement orientation, were more neutrally toned. It was hypothesized that family dysfunctioning would be directly related to shame; and in turn, shame would be directly …

The Seismic Stratigraphy, Crustal Structure, Volcanic And Sedimentary History Of The East Mariana And Pigafetta Basins Of The Western Pacific, Lewis Julius Abrams Jan 1992

The Seismic Stratigraphy, Crustal Structure, Volcanic And Sedimentary History Of The East Mariana And Pigafetta Basins Of The Western Pacific, Lewis Julius Abrams

Open Access Dissertations

In the following investigations regional multichannel seismic reflection and sonobuoy refraction data have been used to identify a site where Leg 129 of the Ocean Drilling Program (ODP) successfully drilled and recovered Jurassic material for the first time in the Pacific Ocean. Prior to drilling first-order stratigraphic relationships and crustal structure were determined. The sedimentary and volcanic history of the East Mariana Basin (EMB) and Pigafetta Basin (PB) were then inferred with emphasis on defining the extent (lateral as well as vertical) and type of deep sea volcanic provinces (sills/flows and or volcaniclastics) in this part of the western Pacific. …

Theme Park Potential In Sevilla, Andalucia, Harrison Price Company

Harrison "Buzz" Price Papers

In February 1992, Exploraciones Alcor, a development company headed by Mssrs. Bryan Jones and Wolfgang Herr, retained Harrison Price Company (HPC) to carry out a preliminary evaluation of the potential for developing a major themed attraction in or near Sevilla. The project would capitalize on the improving economic condition and tourist infrastructure in Andalucia and Spain, increased mobility in Europe attributable to the 1992 reforms and the extraordinary exposure Sevilla will receive from hosting the 1992 Universal World Exposition, the "Age of Discovery."

The Twenty-Fifth Anniversary Of My Lai: A Time To Inculcate The Lessons, Jeffrey F. Addicott, William A. Hudson Jr Jan 1992

The Twenty-Fifth Anniversary Of My Lai: A Time To Inculcate The Lessons, Jeffrey F. Addicott, William A. Hudson Jr

Faculty Articles

The spring of 1993 marks the twenty-fifth anniversary of the My Lai massacre and is an appropriate time to reinforce the lessons learned from the event. Each and every grave breach of the law of war represents a horrible scar on the credibility of the American military, as well as the civilized democracy it protects. In this context, My Lai stands as the greatest emblem of American military shame in the twentieth century. Nothing provides a greater vehicle for inculcating the necessity for strict adherence to the law of war than the lessons from the massacre at My Lai.

Continuing Limits On Un Intervention In Civil War, Mary Ellen O'Connell Jan 1992

Continuing Limits On Un Intervention In Civil War, Mary Ellen O'Connell

Journal Articles

Can the United Nations (UN or Organization) send military forces into civil war without the consent of the parties to the conflict? To date, it never has, but with the end of the Cold War, the Organization is in a position to think again about its proper role in civil war. During the past year, the Security Council has had requests to intervene in the civil wars in Iraq, Yugoslavia, and Somalia. So far, the UN has sent troops to Iraq and Yugoslavia but only after getting the consent of all parties.

The Security Council's recent decisions conform with the …

Whatever Happened To The Fourth Amendment: Undocumented Immigrants' Rights After Ins V. Lopenz-Mendoza And United States V. Verdugo-Urquidez, Victor C. Romero

Faculty Scholarship

This Note rejects the Court's approach to the Fourth Amendment in Lopez and Verdugo and attempts to redefine the boundaries of Fourth Amendment protections for undocumented immigrants. Part I examines the impact of the Lopez and Verdugo decisions upon undocumented immigrants' Fourth Amendment rights. Part II evaluates the arguments for extending Fourth Amendment protections to undocumented immigrants. Viewing the Fourth Amendment as a restriction on government intrusion, Part III examines the constitutional remedies available to undocumented immigrants. This part rejects the Lopez restrictions on the applicability of the exclusionary rule and concludes that the Fourth Amendment neither draws distinctions among …

Tax Liability And Inarbitrability In International Commercial Arbitration, Thomas E. Carbonneau, Andrew W. Sheldrick Jan 1992

Tax Liability And Inarbitrability In International Commercial Arbitration, Thomas E. Carbonneau, Andrew W. Sheldrick

Faculty Scholarship

This essay engages in a narrow but crucial inquiry into the limits the inarbitrability defense may now impose upon the exercise of arbitral jurisdiction. While it is assumed that matters relating directly to status and capacity, testamentary dispositions, and title to immovable property fall outside the jurisdictional reach of international arbitrators, the question becomes whether any national regulatory laws, such as tax laws, benefit from the same status of inviolability.
