Salinity And Waterlogging On The Esperance Downs Research Station, D J. Mcfarlane, A T. Ryder
Salinity And Waterlogging On The Esperance Downs Research Station, D J. Mcfarlane, A T. Ryder
Resource management technical reports
Details the situation on the station so that the demonstration and research programs can be designed and the effect of the treatments assessed. Past work on the station has been briefly summarised and the results of geophysical surveys and additional drilling are given. Surveys of electromagnetic terrain conductivities have shown where salinity is most serious at present. The most deeply penetrating method may have identified areas likely to developing salinity in future.

Comparison Of Regionally Developed Literature-Based Reading Programs To Commercially Produced Literature-Based Basal Reading Programs, Alicia Kay Sutton
All-Inclusive List of Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The purposes of this study were: (1) to determine a definition for a literature-based reading program and a definition for a literature-based basal reading program; (2) to identify eight basic components from literature-based reading programs which have been developed and are currently being used in the Province of Nova Scotia, Canada; the Province of Victoria, Australia; and in Wisconsin and California in the United States; and (3) to determine how closely the three commercially produced literature-based basal reading series securing the top sales in Indiana during the 1989-1995 reading textbook adoption period replicate these components specifically in grade one and …
Factors Associated With Marital Adjustment In Remarriage, Randall David Martin
Factors Associated With Marital Adjustment In Remarriage, Randall David Martin
All-Inclusive List of Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The empirical study of marital adjustment in remarriage has been inadequate to date. Much of the research in this field has lacked scientific rigor in terms of: (1) studying remarried families without differentiating between the various subtypes of stepfamilies; (2) utilizing non-standardized instruments to measure variables; and (3) omitting certain independent variables from consideration. This study addressed all three of the above concerns. It focused on one subtype of remarried families: simple stepfather families. It utilized standardized psychometric measurement devices. Lastly, it focused on several independent variables which had not been adequately studied. The sample consisted of sixty-four remarried females. …

Critical Thinking In Education: What Can The Matter Be?, Gail K Lenning
UNLV Retrospective Theses & Dissertations
The paper presents expert commentary on this issue, where informal logic and philosophy are found to be the favored approaches to the teaching of critical thinking, followed by the interpretation and evaluation of the two major types of programs used to teach critical thinking skills; Lipman's Philosophy for Children program is explained as a specific class intended to teach children to reason by means of a dialogical, philosophical approach; Thoughtful teaching or the across-the-curriculum approach will be explained as to its basic parts, which are a selection of skills and a teaching method to introduce them. There is no universally …
Laser Spectroscopy Of Molecular Ions In An Ion Beam, Jun Li
Laser Spectroscopy Of Molecular Ions In An Ion Beam, Jun Li
UNLV Retrospective Theses & Dissertations
The operation of a coaxial ion beam/laser beam experimental apparatus is described, in which an ion beam is overlapped by a laser beam and the ions are Doppler-tuned into resonance. The experimental apparatus is suitable for the study of both positive and negative ions. Resonant transitions are reported in C{dollar}\sb2\sp{-}{dollar} and in CO{dollar}\sp{+}{dollar}. In C{dollar}\sb2\sp{-}{dollar}, a two-photon resonant photodetachment experiment was performed, with detection of fast neutral C{dollar}\sb2{dollar}. The experiment yields a measurement of the R(10) line of the 1-0 band in the B-X electronic transition. In CO{dollar}\sp{+}{dollar}, the blended Q(1) and R(12) lines of the A-X electronic transition were …

An Assessment Of A Motivational Environment As Viewed By Dealers In The Casino Industry, Richard Joseph Darder
An Assessment Of A Motivational Environment As Viewed By Dealers In The Casino Industry, Richard Joseph Darder
UNLV Retrospective Theses & Dissertations
An analysis of dealers' motivational working environment was conducted at three Las Vegas casinos in order to suggest possible methods for improving the dealers' motivational working environment. Content and process theories of motivation, management theories, and previous studies on motivational environments are reviewed; The results of three casino surveys are presented. Dealers' attitudes were assessed through a motivational-hygiene survey questionnaire. The supervisors' perception of the dealers' attitudes were also assessed and compared. Both the dealers' and supervisors' survey results were compared to previous studies of general industry and hospitality employees. Dealers exhibited different attitudes than employees of previous studies. Recommendations …

The Effects Of Prosocial Skills Training On Anger Management Of Aggressive Adult Inmates, Marcus Read Forbes
The Effects Of Prosocial Skills Training On Anger Management Of Aggressive Adult Inmates, Marcus Read Forbes
All-Inclusive List of Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The effectiveness of prosocial skills training groups, which focused on helping aggressive, male, adult inmates manage anger, was investigated. Forty-eight inmates, defined as aggressive, participated in treatment. A random sample, pretest-posttest-follow-up, treatment control group design was utilized. The eight-week treatment focused on variables of social skill development, anger perceptions, and anger behaviors. Participants' responses to the Social Skills Inventory (Riggio, 1989) and the State Trait Anger Expression Inventory (Spielberger, 1988) were analyzed, along with case counselor responses to the Correctional Adjustment Checklist (Quay, 1984). Results indicated that prosocial skills training had no significant differential effect upon participants when compared to …

British Romanticism And Composition Theory: The Traditions And Value Of Romantic Rhetoric, Sherrie L. Gradin
British Romanticism And Composition Theory: The Traditions And Value Of Romantic Rhetoric, Sherrie L. Gradin
Doctoral Dissertations
My study examines, through the philosophies and writings of the British Romantic poets, particularly those of Wordsworth and Coleridge, their beliefs about education, their theories on composing, and their interaction with the political and social climate as they relate to current expressivist rhetorical theories and pedagogies. I explore the ways in which Romantic assumptions surface in subsequent philosophers, educators, and rhetoricians such as Matthew Arnold, John Stuart Mill, and John Dewey, and more recently, Ann Berthoff, Donald Murray, and Peter Elbow. I argue that like the Romantics, current expressivists are interested in cultivating an imaginative intellect in their writing students. …
Distance Function Constructions In Topological Spaces, Laurie Jean Sawyer
Distance Function Constructions In Topological Spaces, Laurie Jean Sawyer
Doctoral Dissertations
This work investigates the use of distance function constructions in the study of semimetrizable spaces, especially as this relates to developable, K-semimetrizable and 1-continuously semimetrizable spaces.
A distance function for X is a nonnegative, symmetric, real-valued function d: X x X $\to$ $\IR$ such that d(p,q) = 0 iff p = q. A distance function d is developable iff, when d(x$\sb{\rm n}$,p) $\to$ 0 and d(y$\sb{\rm n}$,p) $\to$ 0, then d(x$\sb{\rm n}$,y$\sb{\rm n}$) $\to$ 0; and d is a K-distance function iff whenever d(x$\sb{\rm n}$,p) $\to$ 0, d(y$\sb{\rm n}$,q) $\to$ 0 and d(x$\sb{\rm n}$,y$\sb{\rm n}$) $\to$ 0, then p = …
